I'm from Cumbria and spent a lot of time in the Lake District when I was growing up. Whenever I get the chance I head up there because it's where I feel most "at home"
Morning Bruce. I'm still catching up on your adventures, wow. Oh the joys of the prostate in older gentlemen - I'm familiar with that 😂. Enjoyable ride, thanks for sharing. Not been around that area for a few years, more the pity. So this ride brought back some very happy memories 👍. I see it's not just our old mate Gary that had the mishap through a loss in consentration. Gary even rode into the back of a bus once as his were glued to a pity young lass walking along the high road. And he once rode 1988 Kawasaki 1300cc! Never a dull moment when Gary got distracted 😂!
I love riding the Lakes on bikes....first time on an FZ600 in the late 80's from Glasgow and back on a day out right up till last summer on a Multistrada. Helps to have mates living in the area that know every single lane, goat track and back road ....... At 13.40 i recognised the start of Hartside Pass and happy memories as a huge group of us back in Visordown days used to spend the Easter bank holiday weekend in the Lakes and Scotland based at at B and B in Penrith :D
I love the Lakes and have spent many happy days on the roads you featured up there. I love seeing them again on this video since I can't get up there myself for the foreseeable, and when the restrictions are lifted they will be packed every weekend. Can't wait.
Ending was a gasp. I had to stand up and pull my shorts out of my crack. Pucker-factor was strong. I thought you were going over the bars. Glad you both are fine. I'm used to the roads here in NM and TX to where there is plenty of width to swerve. Hope to see you on this side of the pond! Here, you have to watch for deer -- long-legged rats!
Thanks Buck, yep we get lots of deer here too bud, nightmare early morning and evening time. I was hoping to get over to the States this summer but obviously that may well have to change now - be good to meet up when I do get over. Stay safe 👍
The Lake District is stunning thankfully nobody was hurt should have put them all on Harley’s and you stay in front next time only me and the wife on our rides currently she as just done her learners so fresh and teaching me a few things as past my test back in 1986. Keep living your life take care. Not riding the bikes at the moment but least still allowed to go the work after the Easter break hopefully will continue.
Great vid again Bruce. For me the big lesson in that accident is, do you know who your riding with!! I’m not saying it was the others guys fault, but you do get to know how your close mates ride and what to expect. The guy behind you also just missed you... I now only ride with 3 guys who I know well.. never ride close to someone you don’t know.
Aye, we caught up with this chap and I had literally just accelerated to overtake him when he hit the brakes! I thought he was maybe doing an emergency right into that offroad area, so I cut back to the left but he just stopped dead in the road, so there was nowhere to go but into the back of him 🤦♂️ I remember it just feeling like the brakes weren’t slowing me down - horrible sensation.🤷♂️
I used to live in Cumbria and would ride the roads on my CBR600 weekly, even in winter. One of the best, relatively quick, roads is the A591 from Keswick to Kendal (not the other direction though that's quite good as well). If you ride it, you'll see why Keswick to Kendall is the best direction and a stonking ride. Kirkstone pass is for sissies try Hardknott, Wrynose, and Honister passes but make sure you've got massive round ones before you even start. Cracking scenery, brilliant roads, usually iffy weather 😀 Oh, and watch for sheep (as well as the pheasants), they can climb sheer cliffs!
Cheers Bruce 👍 Magnificent countryside. Like you said, sometimes we do take our own backyard for granted. Quite envious of the roads & quality vloggers found in the UK. Nice Clan you’ve got going. Anyway, cheers again from down under. 😎🏍👍🇦🇺
Good mates and i ride those roads for a Sunday morning blast cannot believe you have never visited before 😱 . Really enjoyed the video as sometimes you don’t get to appreciate all the views when riding. So glad everyone was ok please keep up the great entertaining work 👍🏼
Welcome to my back yard, the roads are clogged at weekends nowadays, always better off during the week. Bit of a disaster at the end mind. You and the lad on the GS-ADV did well to stay up right. Usual good video though Bruce, keep up the good work Pal!
Thanks for the update. We got dumped with a ton of snow, biking on hold. On the good side my brother gets to ride his snowmobile( Polaris 600 Pro S switchback ) one more time! My bike is a 2019 Triumph 1200 XRT, still breaking it in.
Eh up Bruce didn't expect it to end that way!! You stopped at the same place as Richy did on his trip to the lakes, where you put the drone up. Do the 5 passes it's a great days ride.
That's my quick run round the Lakes and Hartside, but I have to get there from Scarborough via the Dales. Great day out. You must go back and do Wrynose / Hardknot though, a proper ride but not in summer, too many cars.
Cheers Bruce. Cracking vid as always, just the ticket whilst under house arrest. Shame it ended earlier than expected. The A686 from Penrith to Alston over Hartside Pass is one of my favourite roads, Shame someone at the cafe over cooked the breakfast. Bleedin' wildlife eh. Always amazes me how they sit there and watch you coming down the road and then at the last minute leg it across the road or take flight.
What a crackin run, lovely roads and weather. Unlucky with the bump, could and does happen to us all, though we don't always show the bit of class you did in handling it. Glad all is well. Thumbs up from me sir.
Love the lake district! (southern fairy me)proposed to Mrs king on ullswater. I've Spent many hours up there as kid visiting family. Good to see everyone were ok. Must ride it one day!
15:55 That little right kink, lost it there riding like I shouldn’t have been, didn’t have my mind on the job still an awesome road, went back up Hartside the next year unscathed & celebrated with a bit of a burnout. 😎👍 Great vid as always Bruce & no serious injuries, lessons learned every days a school day, these things happen bud 👍
Lake District definitely one of my favourites, both for biking or just spending some relaxing time. Good roads, amazing scenery and some great pubs all over the place... what more do you want
Wonderful looking ride out there fellas. Can’t wait to get out after lock down and maybe join you. Got a new bike the day before lockdown and Haven’t had a chance to use it. Ah well. Ride safe gents and nice vid Bruce.
Been thinking exactly the same with recording the audio from the Cardo to the camera. Was thinking putting a Y splitter on the mic jack and taking a feed from the the jack of the Cardo earphones. Gotta be worth a try, only issue is not control over audio levels.
If your up in the lakes again Bruce, another stunning ride is from keswick over the Honister Pass, going down the other side is one of the steepest roads in the UK.
That arse clenching moment when u know ur not gonna stop ( i held my breath and tensed up just watching it ) but top marks for staying upright and glad ur pal was relatively unscathed 👍 top vid as always
I had that on my list of places to ride when I get over, bloody incredible scenery!! I don't think it'll be this year as I'd hoped originally for obvious reasons. Maybe next year. Great video! :) Also obviously very glad you're both ok.
Great road, that’s a given we’re your heading, if only we could have the weather with use, you know leathers one minute over suites the next. That’s what makes abroad so inviting 👍👍
Another awesome video Bruce, thank you! Hope everyone is well after "pheasant gate" and that not too much damage was done. Hope to be able to make it out on the next Clan Ride-out (if I haven't died from old age by then...) P.S this is another good reason to always ride at the front of a group!
Have not whatched the video yet but love to mention the two pod cast's where Great to play while on lock down in Spain and catching up laying some tiles
Cheers Bruce, glad you enjoyed them bud. They’ll be a regular thing now, podcasts every Wednesday and the vid version will go live on the channel the following Monday’s 👍
@@teapotone Ps Bruce. If you ever do the ride round Spain coastal regions I'm based in Cartagena love to see you out this way ps could put you up if you was to get stuck😉
next times you're up the Lake District ride the 5 main high passes, Kirkstone is one of them. Richy Vida did them in a day or two a couple of years back, check his videos out 👍
Love roads in the Lake District. My folks have a place near Grange-Over-Sands so I always take the scenic route down from not-so-sunny South Lanarkshire, through Ambleside on the bike. We did the Honister Pass by the slate mine last year. Came down from Cockermouth (tee-hee 🤭) and through Buttermere. Keep the vids coming Bruce... This lock down is brutal! 😎👍
Awesome you finally got to the Lakes. Advantage of being in the North East is I'm only an hour away from the borders, the lakes, and the dales... just not near anything else :D Cool video again. Keeping me sane during these crazy times
Looks similar to North Wales and area here in wiltshire, lovely views and tight slow technical roads, if the locals want us tourists after we get the clear to go out and weather good, I would be up for maybe joining the meet up ride ( slow one at the back of the pack).
Ouch.....Glad you're all okay. The Lakes are certainly a nice place to ride, but I was looking forward to what you thought of the road from Hawes to Ingleton. One of my favourite biking roads..
Bruce I get to do the lakes and dales every day since lockdown lifted. You need to do hardknot its a experience 32 deg incline. if u ever fancy the dales I know some cracking roads . Good vlog
Blimey you hardly touched the Lake District, plenty of time though eh. That will have been one of the highest accidents in the UK though, check you out! Middleton is one of my favourite places to go to, it generally appears in my ride outs at some point. All the roads are epic!
Been over loads of europe and our local stuff is pretty good. North coast 500 is incredible and great that no ones around! Glad everyones ok but i think it would had been safer just to hit the bird however i know what its like to be in the moment. Keep them vids coming bruce!
This island is beautiful , only the weather that let's us down , could be a coincidence but amidst this partial martial law , a huge reduction in pollution & the weather is pukka 🤷🏾♂️ As riders we are isolated so riding is not an issue during this strange scenario. The day after lockdown I went through Surrey , Sussex , Hampshire , Wiltshire & into Somerset towards Bath, the scenery is incredible with some excellent B & A roads. One thing I've learned from this video is , if I ride in a group (I haven't yet) the pheasant's dead Another great video pal 👊🏽👌
Ha Ha thanks bud, yep it actually says in the Highway Code that you shouldn’t stop on a major road to avoid hitting birdfowl, but it’s human nature - it also says in the Highway Code that you shouldn’t travel too close to the vehicle in front and that’s exactly what I’d done here as I was in the process of overtaking him. I should’ve waited a second more to clear the building on the right - hindsight is a wonderful thing. Just grateful that the other chap wasn’t badly hurt 👍
Very good video sorry one of you got hurt , But looks a great place for a ride out , Keep up with the hard work of making video's & We look forward to some more very soon .
Hi Bruce you could add a splitter from the gopro comms adapter and put the extre mic near your ear that will pick up the conversation. I might work but i dont know if the mic will be too lumpy. (My thoughts anyway) But it looked like a brilliant ride up to the end bit. Hope you are ok after that? Jack (The Essex Jock)
Cheers Jack, yep I’ve seen some people use an extra mic up near their ear to capture the audio out the speakers but that is really uncomfortable for me personally so I can’t do that. There are a few other options to try though 👍
Bruce, If you ever come up north again let me know, I'll show you things you've never seen before 😉 😂 The lakes is one thing but the moors are another 👍 Great work buddy.
The road from Alston to Middleton in Teasdale is one of the very best in Britain, so sorry you did not get to enjoy it, glad you and the other chap are OK.
"Biker Gang Hassle Poor Audi Driver" Daily Mail reports... Good effort lads. Looks great roads, weather helps too. Look forward to hearing what you come up with re cardio to camera recording. Unfortunate end, accidents happen, glad all are OK.
The lakes are a lovely place to be I've not bean up there on the bike tho, hopefully can get out there and go up there again, glad your both ok with that little bump as well keep the video its something to keep up all entertained at these time can't wait t get back out on the bike, I've a quick question also I'm thinking of having a go of bike blogging what the best way to go around it and what to use cheers 👍 Be save
Was chatting to Martin and Joy about you Bruce when riding in Gran Canaries, watching your videos is costing me a lot of money in travel, maybe ride staggered next time lol
And this is why you should always have good insurance. I think my heart stopped when you hit that guy. So many questions but just glad everyone is alive. You hit going 40 its amazing you stayed on the bike.
Sat watching @Lambchopsrides the other day in Greece staying our roads are crap. Not sure how often he rides these roads. Northumberland/lakes/Yorkshire/Scotland have got to be some of the best roads in the world. Time you all had a meet when @Thelikeablerider can get over and have a gang reunion.
You can record everyone by adding a second mic to your helmet and what amounts to a passive mixer circuit. Use a headphone splitter cable to get the speaker audio from the cardo, mix it and your second mic together with the passive mixer and plug it into the mic input of your gopro.
Great ride until the 'bump'. Glad everyone was ok. Any damage to Helga? Hope you and your wife are keeping well. Just want to be able to ride again...........👍
Mason adv does the coms. Not a great way to end a vlog I to had the same happen this winter on the snowmobile trails and ran into my buddies sled. Bent the rear bumper and broke my nose cowl on my sled. No air ambulance, we both had a good laugh and drove on. Bikes are a little more fragile I think. In isolation from Northern Ontario Canada!
What a shocker. Only takes a split second for things to go pear shaped. Stay safe. Good on you for sharing what happened. A lesson for us all.
I'm from Cumbria and spent a lot of time in the Lake District when I was growing up. Whenever I get the chance I head up there because it's where I feel most "at home"

Definitely somewhere I need to go too in the near future after all this corona blows over. Drone footage looks amazing around there too.
It’s stunning bud
Staggered formaitiom Teapotone.
Very good video sorry one of you got hurt , But looks a great place for a ride out , Keep up with the hard work of making video's & We look forward to some more very soon .
Thanks Kevin 👍
Hi Bruce you could add a splitter from the gopro comms adapter and put the extre mic near your ear that will pick up the conversation. I might work but i dont know if the mic will be too lumpy. (My thoughts anyway) But it looked like a brilliant ride up to the end bit. Hope you are ok after that?
Jack (The Essex Jock)
Cheers Jack, yep I’ve seen some people use an extra mic up near their ear to capture the audio out the speakers but that is really uncomfortable for me personally so I can’t do that.
There are a few other options to try though 👍
Great ride. I’ve done many of those roads myself and love them. I believe they are rebuilding the Hartside cafe. Keep up the great vlogs. :-)
Cheers Andrew, yes apparently it’s going to be some kind of biker lodge or something?
Bruce, If you ever come up north again let me know, I'll show you things you've never seen before 😉 😂
The lakes is one thing but the moors are another 👍
Great work buddy.
The guy that avoided the pheasant wasn't called Tucker was he 😆😂🤣 (sorry, its an internal joke 😂)
The road from Alston to Middleton in Teasdale is one of the very best in Britain, so sorry you did not get to enjoy it, glad you and the other chap are OK.
Thanks bud, that’s what I’ve been told about that road, we were just on our way there when the pheasant made an appearance! 🤦♂️
Great vid once again glad your both ok great route done many times when we've gone up to Scotland we gone that way r own long way up to Scotland😉😂😂
"Biker Gang Hassle Poor Audi Driver" Daily Mail reports... Good effort lads. Looks great roads, weather helps too.
Look forward to hearing what you come up with re cardio to camera recording.
Unfortunate end, accidents happen, glad all are OK.
The lakes are a lovely place to be I've not bean up there on the bike tho, hopefully can get out there and go up there again, glad your both ok with that little bump as well keep the video its something to keep up all entertained at these time can't wait t get back out on the bike,
I've a quick question also I'm thinking of having a go of bike blogging what the best way to go around it and what to use cheers 👍
Be save
Watched this again....great vid and really hope we can meet up this year 🙏
Happy New year Big Man 🏍🥂
Happy New Year to you and your family bud 👍
Was chatting to Martin and Joy about you Bruce when riding in Gran Canaries, watching your videos is costing me a lot of money in travel, maybe ride staggered next time lol
miss riding up to the pass from Newcastle :(, bike was stolen September 19. one day ill get another bike and hit up the pass again
And this is why you should always have good insurance. I think my heart stopped when you hit that guy. So many questions but just glad everyone is alive. You hit going 40 its amazing you stayed on the bike.
I was lucky that I hit square on I think, plus I had time to brace for impact - the poor chap I hit didn’t sadly. 😔🤦♂️
Cheers Ian I’ll give that a go 👍
@@teapotone How are your soldering skills?
Non-existent at the moment
No, No, No, stay away the roads are rubbish and the locals hostile!
Don't want my nice roads clogged up once this shit lockdown is over with! ;-)
Great ride until the 'bump'. Glad everyone was ok. Any damage to Helga? Hope you and your wife are keeping well. Just want to be able to ride again...........👍
Looked like an amazing ride
Thanks Colin, it was.... right up until the end 🤦♂️
👍😉TP one, I have ridden the lake District many times, it's brilliant, your video was awesome dude 👌 from R1 Greg 😁
Cheers Greg, glad you enjoyed it 👍
