      +ChessNetwork I don't just randomly fall asleep. I have to decide to sleep, which is very difficult because the videos are so entertaining, and chess > sleep unless you're sick, like I am currently, but I just woke up so every thing's fine :D

    Jerry, discovered your videos back in 2010 with your commentary on the WCC games. Been a huge fan ever since. Loved the Warzones and other bullet tournaments along with every other video you have made. I finally registered on UA-cam so I could give you some "likes" and leave you a comment: THANK YOU for MANY MANY hours of entertainment and education! Best chess commentator on UA-cam by far! A day without a ChessNetwork video is like a day without sunshine. :)

    Imagine Jerry's rating if he learned some openings by heart... obviously it's more instructive this way, but it feels like you reinvent the wheel in every game and end up premoving the endgame.

    I am curious why you didn't look at giving check with the queen? Move 16. I looked at the computer, and the line it gives involves winning a minor piece.
    Your line you focused on still shows an important factor: That pawn lives!!! Yay!

    28:13 why can't you fork the rooks with the knight? Is there something I'm missing?

    • @sooooooooDark
      @sooooooooDark 8 років тому +3

      +Lorenzo Stroe he prolly didnt see it
      however one could argue that that bishop in that particular position is worth more than the weird a1 rook

    • @KARTIKEYA007
      @KARTIKEYA007 8 років тому +2

      i agree, I would have taken the bishop even after seeing the fork.

    • @noxure
      @noxure 3 роки тому

      Since white has a free capture with Bxf2 Jerry would be down two paws return for the exchange. Overal I think bishop + pawn for a knight is objectively a better trade - but it's hard to say.

      +rossschcheese well hey he won so he must be doing something right

    • @Vendavalez
      @Vendavalez 8 років тому +11

      +rossschcheese I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe he is better at time management when he is not providing live commentary for a game. He does seem to spend a lot of his time explaining why he is doing something or not doing something when without commentary he would have probably just moved. Could he play much better if he provided more sparse commentary? Maybe. But personally, I watch this channel much more than others because of the live commentary.

    • @victorroque6213
      @victorroque6213 8 років тому +2

      +Vendavalez absolutely, it's great watching a live commentary. It seems like we're playing together, once he briefly shows his thoughts while playing.

    • @daveruble5150

      I always felt like Jerry uses more time early, when it's more complicated, and goes blitz mode as it simplifies.
      Am I all wet, here?

    why did you castle Jerry? it seemed to me that staying in the centre was safe. the centre was closed, and a quick b5 and c4 would have been to your favor (i am writing this without having seen the end of the game)

    What's your rule of thumb when deciding which bishop is more valuable? thanks

    • @uchihamadara6024
      @uchihamadara6024 8 років тому +1

      A bishop on the opposite colour of its pawns is very valuable because it covers the squares the pawns don't cover and the pawns cover the rest and the bishop can move freely, a bishop blocked in by its own pawns isn't very valuable since it only serves to defend pawns

    Do you ever compete in real chess tournaments? How do you earn the rank of NM? I don't really know much about that side of chess.

    • @ChessNetwork
      @ChessNetwork  8 років тому +5

      Hi Mark. I haven't competed in over the board tournaments in about 5 years now . I've acquired 2200 or more rating points in the USCF (United States Chess Federation) which puts me in the Master category. A level below that is Expert (2000-2199)... Class A (1800-1999)...Class B (1600-1799) etc...

    • @jakebishop7822
      @jakebishop7822 8 років тому

      +ChessNetwork you should go for international master, u beat them quite a bit online and have improved quite a bit, in my opinion.

    • @sanekabc
      @sanekabc 8 років тому

      +Gnwekor Agrwshe I care to differ on that point. Jerry's understanding is at a GM level but whether he could handle the day in day out grind is another issue. I have a 2160 Fide friend who routinely beats IMs and GMs in rated over the board play. And I beat him regularly. But I can't handle more than one good tournament game because I get exhausted after the first round. :-)

    • @sanekabc
      @sanekabc 8 років тому

      +Gnwekor Agrwshe Tell me, what rating was the strongest player you have beaten in a tournament rated game? Do you even have an official over the board rating? Only good players can judge other good players. Saying that something is stupid is not an argument. But it is does demonstrate that it is not worth continuing the argument with YOU.

    It's so annoying watching Jerry use half his time on the opening. We don't need to know EVERY single thought in his head. I wish he would save time and explanation for later in the game.

    • @nivagl5871
      @nivagl5871 8 років тому +2

      +Beancrew49 If you know all the opening they I guess it's not great but this is what I like about his commentary...you can feel him going through the gears :) Then it comes to "I can't calculate it all", "I just wanna do this" & "this is instinct" that is the gold (and very comforting to me to see the same crazy thoughts I have but in a good player) but getting there slowly makes it all the better for me :) Jerry delivers chess like good sex! xD

    • @sanekabc
      @sanekabc 8 років тому +5

      +Beancrew49 Are you kidding? It's invaluable to hear each of his thoughts. The point isn't really for him to win these instructional games but to teach us. Speaking and playing likely lowers your strength by up to 200 points.

    • @beancrew49
      @beancrew49 8 років тому +1

      +sanekabc I'm not saying he shouldn't talk and teach. I'm saying that he should use his time more evenly during the game so that we learn about each phase of the game. We don't usually get to hear his thoughts near the end of the game because he's always wasted so much time early that he's just playing on increment and we don't hear his strategy.

    • @threefive2072
      @threefive2072 6 років тому

      yes but all his preparation allows him to use the opponent's time to plan his moves later in the game.
