Wow this takes me back to when I was a kid listening to him practice and play while I watched TV and ate ice cream And before anyone says anything clifford is my grandpa though I remember vary little cause well I was very little when he passed I was 5 and remember vary little but those are some of my favorite memories..so thanks for letting me hear my grandpa play again
Kitci Miigwetch for posting - Always enjoyed this music with my Grand-father Jos, my Dad and Uncles - whom today have now passed on - Miigwetch-ThankYou-Merci !! Anicinabekwe from North-Western QC.
this guy could play what seemed like all night especially during square dance competitions , Roberta & I shared many a dance floor with Clifford, it was so easy to dance to his music, Ken & Roberta
Excellent - I like how each fiddler put his/her on mark on the basic maple sugar tune. This is a fine version with several little things in it that I like. I just learned it for the mandolin and there are a couple of licks I going to "steal" from this one! Thanks for the post.
I recorded Cliff doing this version of Maple Sugar. Not sure who loaded it on youtube. But I recorded that in my brother's house in St Laurent. The accompaniment you hear in the recording is a key board on the floor in front of him, and he is changing keys with his feet while playing the fiddle.
real right on...i dreamt of this song bc i heard it before...and i woke up and i didnt know what the song was called..but i searched and i know now...jus awesome !
Wonderful playing and STYLE! Especially those cute little nuance licks that add so much to a standard (Maple Sugar) melody, One ignorant comment called him "sloppy", that's like calling someone who uses "Ain't", ignorant of english! (we'll have to forgive her, she's obviously an IGNORAMUS when it comes to folk fiddling!)
I recorded this tune on my minidisc recorder in the doorway to my brother Guy's kitchen. Cliff played the fiddle and he played the keyboard synthesiser with his toes while his long time friend Bill Paul played the guitar.0
My kokum always played fiddling songs all the time and she tried to teach me to square dance and get mad at me for a wrong step lol miss my kokum back home in Manitoba
Allen MacLennan several years years ago before Cliff past away he told me that his Dad and my Dad. Donald use to play the fiddles together and he would step dance when he was a young lad. Dad would play the Red River jig and I did the jig. Dad and Andy also played together. The fiddles music of the Interlake area will always be with me.
