I am in no way a political greenie but I am a supporter of nature and Australia's flora and fauna.Trout were introduced to Australia and are not a native fish. They have had a negative impact on several other native fish species. All introduced animals have a negative impact on our own environmental balance - ie rabbits, foxes, carp, camels, deer, cane toads, beetles and insects etc.
Farming trout for food is one thing but releasing them into our rivers to the detriment of our native fauna just to promote tourism is something else that must be questioned.

I think you're mistaking Carp and Trout. Trout cannot survive in most Australian streams.

Why are we introducing so many additional members of a foreign species into the river systems? Won't this have an impact on the native ecosystem? Not a word from this program..?
Nevermind, I looked it up, "In Australia Rainbow and Brown Trout have both been implicated in the decline of many small native freshwater fish species, especially the galaxid fauna of Tasmania where four species are now critically endangered. Their negative impact is mostly due to predation on juveniles and competition with adults for food and space resources in limited supply."
Cool, so primary aim: keep fishermen happy. Not on the aims list at all: protect native fauna. Australia: where we never bloody learn.

cause you can't eat carp. both are introduced and harmful to our native fish species. Carp are probably much more destructive and resilient though.
