I can totally relate. I got accepted into Georgetown but received 0 financial aid so I’ll probably go to Umiami in the fall.
Honestly, I think you deserved more.... Like, I really wished you got full financial aid at Upenn and eventually enrolled there. Anyways, I know you'll definitely do great wherever you are. Chill...

My dad went to UMiami and is still soooo obsessed with it. I’m sure you made the right decision and good luck! The financial thing with the other schools sucks my brother went through a similar process. But everything happens for a reason right, you’ll do great at Miami . Go canes !

It’s so nice to see another Black person who’s interested in both business and Chinese... I feel like I’ll definitely see you around in the business world...I’ll be transferring to USC (Fall 2020 Sophomore )for Chinese and will do Chinese Business Japanese and a minor in German. Definitely could see myself working next to you (he said as uncreepily as possible 😂) I just love your approach and intelligence especially in a field that’s not very minority friendly but also specifically not Black friendly. So do you have any plans for when you graduate college like which company or whatever do you want to work for? I’m also trying to self study or take some Cantonese classes because I definitely want to go to Asia (Hong Kong especially) for the fun and business vibes.

Nicole C I’m Black Liberal And Young, not to mention I’m from a big city (Houston) so the vibes are drastically different. I am a Double/ Triple major with 2 East Asian languages as studies and anyone who’s visited Lubbock knows there is not even a significant population much less a sufficient Asian population to draw from as far as out of class research and just having fun learning the language(s)
Congrats on all the schools! Kind of a shame the aid at a lot of the schools wasn’t sufficient. Sad that I won’t see you at Penn next year, but I’m sure you’ll be successful anywhere

I just read your article on Poets and Quants! I think it’s rlly nice that you’re enjoying Miami. I decided to apply pretty late but I’m rlly glad I did (although I can’t get a full tuition scholarship now). I visited last week and the campus was so amazing! The city seems perfect and has a huge financial district in Brickel which is nice. Do you have aspirations for the Street and has Miami helped you towards your goal?

I reside in Atlanta also. I support you and your parents decision on your college choices. You will do very well at any college you attend. I am curious. Did you select any HBCU'S ? Spelman , Fisk , Howard , Clark Atlanta , etc. My theory is once you graduate and do well in your career. Just support an HBCU with your millions you earned in your life. Best wishes !

Depending on what you wanted to do you could have paid your Wharton loans in about 2 years or 2.5 years Max
....
But if you re more into ngo s, non profit, communication, marketing etc Miami or Gtech were probably the better options indeed... Anyway good luck and you can always go to Wharton for ur MBA ;)
Turning down Wharton must be the worst feeling in the world honestly, I can't imagine that D: I'm Canadian so my goal schools are the best business schools we got being Rotman at University of Toronto, Ivey at Western University, etc. and Wharton throws em in the duuuuust
why did you go for Pac-12 school they have tops in sports and classes too and plus scholarships?
I almost chose Miami cause I got a scholarship too, but I ended up choosing USC!! Would have been cool to go to the same place

Cesar Espinosa sorry this is super late but I randomly saw this and still wanted to answer! I would say having unique activities and experiences (like studying abroad in China) but also good stats cause miami doesn’t have supplemental essays

hey! I just wasn't a fan of the campus setup since there isn't really any separation from the school and the city, but in terms of programs and what the school offers I loved it. Aaaannnddd they didn't give me any money 😂
My parents don’t think it’s worth it for me to apply to out of state public universities bc they don’t think I will get any aid. Do u think I will be worth it to apply to some anyway ?? I’m just stressing out

It's definitely worth a try and don't let anyone to discourage you, especially your parents... Just try it and who knows maybe you will succeed!!!

I thought upenn gives a lot of financial aid that is need based? Is this not true?

Hiya S I’m guessing she’s from a donut hole family (middle to upper middle class). Doesn’t really qualify for need based aid but family doesn’t have it to cover full tuition without extensive loans. I’m assuming this based on seeing her parents and attending a private HS, but could be wrong.
Why you didn’t go to UGA?
I’m curious why you ruled out WashU. They claim to work with each student to make it affordable. What was your experience?
lol they all say that but its really based on what they think your financial need is/should be from FAFSA and other forms. You can talk to the fin aid offices and get a bit more aid sometimes but if your family is in that not poor enough to qualify for need based but not wealthy enough to actually pay 70k a year position funding college is just really tough. sorry this was long esp cause thats not actually why i ruled washu out i just didnt like the campus and the city it was in that much after visiting
@@MikaelaCherelle I don't see how any family can realistically afford 70+ thousand a year for school. What didn't you like about the campus? I know the subway goes to the campus, but the school is in the burbs.

What scholarship did you device with for UMiami. I applied there and was wondering if there was an application process you went through. Also love you!
I received the Hammond Scholarship, which is full tuition. You cannot directly apply for it, unfortunately. They just select students who applied EA or ED to do an interview and submit an additional essay.

They don't give money
Where one elects to attend college is a personal choice. Being black does not obligate you to attend an HBCU. The college selection process is difficult enough without receiving more pressure from external sources. Don’t criticize someone’s decisions or offer advice unless it is requested.

Why did you rule out UGA?
I had mainly been comparing UGA and GA Tech directly against each other and just liked Tech so much more in terms of class sizes and campus size. I also loved that Tech was in a major city, but Athens is a smaller college town, which I did not like as much. UGA's still an amazing school, though, and people there really love it!
