#teachers Thank you so much for this video. I love the fact that you are careful about saying how much you love something to turn around 2 months later and talk about how bad it is. When I first started home schooling I was constantly running into that. It was very frustrating when you really dont know what your doing. Thanks again!

I love that homeschooling gives us the freedom to change curriculum for our kiddos when it’s just not working for them. I also loved Abeka and wanted so badly for it to work but my son absolutely dreaded it and it led to tears almost daily so we had to call it quits. Luckily we had a pretty smooth transition to a new curriculum and it’s been great for him. My oldest, whew I thought we would never find a curriculum that fit her but we did by trial and error and she is thriving and has grown so much academically and I couldn’t be more proud. I was definitely getting discouraged having to go through one thing after another but like you said, I feel like as they get older you find your groove and figure out what works. #teachers
#teachers I really enjoy your homeschool videos and learn so much from you as you are several years ahead of me. Thank you for your honesty and the details. 😊
I do agree that as you continue in homeschooling your kids picking curriculum gets easier. You know the kid and what works, and you’ve already looked at and tried some of what doesn’t work. Sometimes the best curriculum just doesn’t work with certain kids. Still the best job ever though! #teachers
#teachers I am making a curriculum change next school year from BJUPress to TGATB and I have been a little anxious just because I don’t like change 😂 but sometimes it’s necessary! Thanks for sharing!
Love this! I feel like sometimes we change things up in our homeschool for the sake (*ahem* fun) of it…although not in the case of my daughter today, that was necessary. But certainly in years past for other subjects. I love that we’re all different and some love change while others, not so much!
#teachers I only got 1 pre-K girl to homeschool (first time mom) and I understand now that not everything I watched in UA-cam or have read in some blogs would work for her. Sometimes, I got sad when I feel that she's not that enthusiastic with the material/book/curriculum I prepared or purchased. Then I realized each kid got different personalities and likes. So thank you for reminding me that it's ok and we can change things if needed to.
That's exactly the same thing my husband told me. To take it easy and slowly. Thank you so much for sharing your homeschooling and life journey. Praying for a safe pregnancy. 😍

@@thepracticalhomeschooler I honestly don't know if it gets any more in depth. We quit during the 6th Lesson (reading 120+ pages), and my boys weren't necessarily "learning" anything new. #teachers Thank you for the new resource! The review posted under “user” so hopefully that still counts! Keep all the resources and suggestions and curriculum ideas coming. You are making a huge difference. :)
It is so interesting to see the differences in our kiddos. Hope your changes work well for you. I enjoyed hearing what you thought of the science units too. Thanks for sharing! :) #teachers
Thank you for sharing updates with your girls and school, i feel i was the only one i was struggling with my daughter we had to change a few things so she could start learning too. Thank you for you videos and congratulations in your pregnancy blessings! #teachers
Thank you for sharing. I agree if we homeschool the benefit is giving our kids a voice in what they are learning so they develop a love of learning. If you move up to the next level I would highly recommend the booster cards. My daughter is doing the 2nd grade level - she loves that part the most in addition to the phonics it has poems and each page you finish you get to mark it with an animal sticker - her favorite part. I am with you on getting one to school. My oldest goes to a University Model School so two days a week we are out the door by 7:20. 😬 If she continues next year it will be three days. I would prefer to be still in my PJs at that point 😂. Praying for a wonderful second half of the school year for your family.
#teachers Me & my kids love this download! It came at the perfect time! Your videos are so sweet and encouraging and I hope that you are doing well mama! ❤️
#teacher Two of my kids do hybrid school this year. Thank you for doing this video! Looking for good things for my younger kids! Looking at possible options for the fall for all my boys!
#teachers So cute! Exactly what I was looking for! Love hearing midyear updates! Nothing like info that has been tried and tested. Thanks for the freebie info as well. My kindergartener needs the extra practice in handwriting. We tend to struggle in that area.
I have two kids who thrive with very different curriculum styles too. My younger son was miserable doing the curriculum that worked for my older. It makes me sad for kids who just don't do well in a school without that flexibility.
#teacher Tgtb language arts and math are both working so well for my 1st grader! We’re doing the old la because I couldn’t pass on the 50% off a while back lol but I’ve downloaded the new one and mix in a page or two from that every now and then 🤗 love the update on how all your girls are doing ♥️
I have a curveball daughter too! My youngest is in Kindergarten. My middle is using All About Reading level 3 currently and has been successful with that, but my youngest...I don't know if that will work for her. So I think we are going to try TGTB Level K. We've been doing their preschool and K prep this past year and I think the short lessons are really good for her. I may attempt to sprinkle in All about Reading, but not sure if will be a good fit. #teachers
My first grader son is a Charlotte Mason lover as well, we do the good and the beautiful for Language Arts and a blend of Abeka and The good and the beautiful Math. I wanted to try Abeka for language arts when I watched your videos, but I knew from the beginning it was going to be a nightmare for him. At some point I was a little doubtful about the good and the beautiful, but his reading skills have increased dramatically. Thank you so much for sharing!!! Love your videos.
It’s always great to see parents listening to their children and making changes as needed! Also thanks for the recommendation of creative fabrica. I’ve never heard of it before and the site looks great! #teachers
I love that you found a new LA program to work for your youngest daughter. I completely agree with everything you said about listening to your child and finding what works best for them. I also use TGTB LA for my youngest and while she likes the art part of the course book she doesnt love so much everything else, so I am currently kinda like you were not to long ago trying to figure out if we will stop it all together or try and make it work some way. My eldest loves it but just as you have, I have come to learn every child is different. Thank you for sharing this video update and a chance to win a givevaway. #teachers
#teachers I have one of those curve ball kids too! I’m having to change my whole way of doing things to support her particular learning style. But that’s why I homeschool - so I can cater to my children’s learning needs! It’s not a one size fit all. ❤
Yes we do both for my granddaughters the TGAB and Abeka math and ELA they both wk well together, the girls love them It truly help both girls read at 3 yrs old. The 6 old dose 2 grade level and 4 yrs old just started the k level.
#teachers We are in our third year of homeschooling and I always find these kinds of updates so helpful. The thing that’s really hard about homeschooling (vs my life as a public school teacher) is the commiseration. I really want someone who knows what I’m going through to bounce ideas with and my husband just doesn’t get it. 🙈 I find myself really leaning on UA-cam videos with other homeschool moms.
Aww Mrs.Lola Mason ❤ !!! That is too cute. I am so happy you found out what works for your baby girl. You are so right my first few years of homeschooling we had a lot of changes now I feel like we have been making more so adjustments not so much huge changes for my oldest daughter too.😊
#teachers I think this is a great way to blend Abeka and TGTB! I'm drawn to both for very different reasons, but it's hard to turn away from the solid phonics foundation of Abeka. But I love how you're doing it!
#teachers I love your videos!! We are fellow Abeka users, and I just love your perspective on everything! I agree that it’s so interesting to see how different each child is and how they each learn.
Hi! Thanks for this! We are using TGTB level K this year and we plan to get level 1 for next year! We also have the abeka readers (now considering buying the flash cards and charts thanks to your video). Would you mind doing a more detailed video on how you use the readers and charts and flash cards in conjunction with TGTB level one curriculum?
I love GAB LA and math! But after 3 years I was so sad that it really wasn’t working for my daughter. She liked it, but my daughter has some learning difficulties and it was too fast for her. I even did level 1 twice in a row, but it wasn’t working. So I did start in January with it, but a month later I just had to look for something new. And like you, I researched and stayed awake at night worrying about it. Well I finally choose All about reading and she is doing AMAZING! Best decision this year for her!!
#teachers I love that the tracing book has a cover page and practice pages 😉 thank you for the freebie 🙏🏼 ❤ My first grader had the same problem this year with abeka math. He likes the good and beautiful math much better. I also agree that abeka is just as amazing as the good and beautiful 100% ... it just depends on the child ❤ great video!!!
I'm still trying to find something that will stick for my 5th grader. I can't seem to get it right for her. 🤔 And I hate the idea of throwing money at curriculum that may or may not work . 🤦♀️❤️😆 Loved hearing your update!
Yes totally agree! But at least narrowing down what she doesn’t like might help point you in the direction for what she does?? It can definitely be tough!
Looks like you found a good fit for Lola! I was looking into that Apologia book but decided to go with Word in Motion from them. We just started the old testament with my 1st grader and I really like it and we are excited to use it! The only Abeka thing I have purchased was their handwriting books and I was not a fan and switched to A reason for Handwriting transition book after 2 months. I loveeeee that book! Shopping for curriculum is so fun!! We are going to start Rightstart Math next year. It's games based and looks super awesome! Thanks for the update and we hope your pregnancy is going well!! 🤰
I’ll have to look into word in motion. And yes, none of my kids ever like Abeka handwriting either. I’ve heard great things about right start! And yes, it’s going well…thank you for asking 😌🥰
If you're looking for a wonderful Bible Curriculum, the Abeka Flash-A-Card series are AMAZING!! We have been through the life of Christ, the Salvation Series, the Genesis Series, and now on to Moses and Joshua and working our way through the Old Testament. I grew up in private Christian school my whole life like you, and now homeschool our kiddos, and this series has even been so wonderful for me as a study!
@@thepracticalhomeschooler Yes!! The covers look old school, but they have oil painting pictures that depict the different stories and the application that is applied along with each story are so wonderful!!
#teachers It is nice to hear that some years do not need huge changes! As much fun as getting something new is for me, I really don't want to have to reinvent the wheel as much as UA-cam makes seem normal! PS: my review on creative fabrica is with my full name: Elizabeth, because I just use Lisa as a nickname :)
Thanks for letting us know your thoughts on the Safety course! I wanted to do it for my Kindergartener but saw it was for grades 3-8. Might pick it up for next year!
Oh my goodness, my 8yr old and 5 yr old HATE Explode the Code too!! I’ve always heard such good things from others about it but I had to let it go because they hated it so much. 🤷🏼♀️ Luckily it didn’t cost to much and I only bought them 2 books each. TGATB sounds perfect for your youngest! It was not a good fit for my 8yo boy. He hates, poetry, art, geography…and grammar and writing. 🤦🏼♀️ When I tried that with him last year it was like pulling teeth! But my oldest, (10yo girl) loves it! She’s my artsy, creative one…sounds a bit like your youngest. They are all different for sure and what works for one doesn’t often work for another. Keeps us on our toes as homeschool moms!
I’m wondering if you have any tips for identifying which curriculum might be a better fit tgtb or Abeka (for la) for each individual child? I love watching your content and I find it so helpful.
Ugh, so tough! I get asked that one all the time and it’s really hard to say. All of my kids have surprised me at some point with curriculum they love and works well and ones they hated and didn’t work. Sometimes it’s trial and error. I know that’s not much help! I will say, TGTB you can download the entire curriculum for free and print out several lessons to try. At least you could get an idea from there before buying the entire curriculum.
My twin daughter loves to do her school reading on the beach and if we eat out and in the car!!! It’s on her iPad so it’s easy for her!!! We love TGTB science!!! We love the new science units but we did the body unit!!! We haven’t used the safety unit tho as I don’t see the need!!! I have tons of conversations about safety!!! As a teenager I did alpha and felt like I hadn’t learned anything but ppl at my youth group where new to the faith!!! We love nessy for phonics as well as TGTB!!! With nessy I don’t teach but hand it to my kids!!!
I can’t wait to do the human body one!! So the apologia has been out since you were in high school? Ahh, makes sense now (not that you’re old haha) but realizes it’s not a “newer” curriculum makes sense…it has a 90s feel to it like from when I was a kid.
You made me feel SO much better! My 3rd grade daughter is doing Abeka and is almost totally self sufficient and loves it. My son...who is in kindergarten hated his Abeka so I did exactly the same....researched a TON, bought explode the code ....and then we do good and the beautiful for math and language...he loves it! I just feel a little all over the place as far as organizing our day. but ill get there (fingers crossed lol)
Thanks for the video. This is one of my favorite channels to watch! I’d love to hear how your pregnancy is going and how it’s affecting the year. My homeschool years are always hard the years I am pregnant. It’s a good thing you are sticking with the math. What do you think you will use past 6th grade? My 7th grader is using Saxon and it is a good fit for him but probably not the others. On the other hand I have a son repeating 5th grade but still on math 4 from the good and the beautiful. We just took the unit assessment for unit 3 and it was almost all wrong. So at this point I have no idea what I’m going to do but obviously we can’t move on. At this point I am going to use the free download to give him the math 3 assessments and see what exactly we missed. I’d appreciate any tips though. And then for this year purchasing things that aren’t working..I got all about reading for my kindergartner and I really don’t like teaching it 😬I just started up again because he needs it but when we can afford it I’ll buy the good and the beautiful course book. This is the first year we’ve used the good and the beautiful language arts and I feel like it’s really great at including a lot of information.
Also to add to this I was wondering what you think about the possibility of using around the he world with picture books for grade 3, grade 1 and a preschooler (and at the time a almost 2 year old) This will be the age of my younger set then I’ll probably go ahead and do master books for my 8th grader and 2 sixth graders

We've had a few trial and errors with math! We tried Math with Confidence starting out because I thought she would love the hands out & game play while learning math & my 1st grader HATED it! She wanted something to the point.. so we switched to Singapore Dimensions Math & she LOVES it! It's workbooks/worksheets & to the point. It's making her LOVE math! It's always the first subject she wants to do first! ❤️
I thought my daughter would love MWC too, and I really wanted it to work because it is so solid. But she absolutely hated it. Tears every single day! I’m glad your daughter is enjoying Dimensions!
@ljenk yes she wasn't a fan at all..we use the worksheets in the workbook for extra practice when she wants to, but we don't use it past that. I liked the concept of MWC but she just wasn't feeling it at all unfornately.
@The Practical Homeschooler Absolutely! I am glad that we can figure out what works for her with her learning style and we've found something she truly loves doing.

Yes the drop off definitely took getting used to 😵💫😳 lol

Thank you for the new resource! The review posted under “user” so hopefully that still counts! Keep all the resources and suggestions and curriculum ideas coming. You are making a huge difference. :)
That means more than you know! Thank you!
It is so interesting to see the differences in our kiddos. Hope your changes work well for you. I enjoyed hearing what you thought of the science units too. Thanks for sharing! :) #teachers
#teachers Thank you for these videos! They are super helpful. This is our second year of homeschooling and we are loving it😊
Thank you for sharing updates with your girls and school, i feel i was the only one i was struggling with my daughter we had to change a few things so she could start learning too. Thank you for you videos and congratulations in your pregnancy blessings!
#teachers
Thank you! ☺️
Ok, I’ll check that out for next year, thanks!
And o my goodness, that’s so early! Lol bless you and may you have strength 😅😆🥰

Me & my kids love this download!
#teachers
So cute! Exactly what I was looking for!
Love hearing midyear updates! Nothing like info that has been tried and tested. Thanks for the freebie info as well. My kindergartener needs the extra practice in handwriting. We tend to struggle in that area.
Hope it’s helpful!
#teachers so excited I found your channel, I love all the support for homeschooling these days!
So happy you’re here!
I have two kids who thrive with very different curriculum styles too. My younger son was miserable doing the curriculum that worked for my older. It makes me sad for kids who just don't do well in a school without that flexibility.
We are loving TGTB Math 3 this year...so good so beautiful so much learning 💕#teacher
#teacher
Tgtb language arts and math are both working so well for my 1st grader! We’re doing the old la because I couldn’t pass on the 50% off a while back lol but I’ve downloaded the new one and mix in a page or two from that every now and then 🤗 love the update on how all your girls are doing ♥️
I did that several years back with my oldest…the newer versions are always so tempting…thank goodness for free downloads 🙌
My two homeschooled kids are so different in what they like. I use a different curriculum for them. #teachers
#teachers
Sounds great!

Always my favorite down to earth homeschool mom I relate to! Thank you for always sharing!
❤️❤️❤️ thanks for watching!
That’s great to hear that!
#teachers
#teachers
I have one of those curve ball kids too! I’m having to change my whole way of doing things to support her particular learning style. But that’s why I homeschool - so I can cater to my children’s learning needs! It’s not a one size fit all. ❤
That’s precisely it!
#teachers Love your channel! Thanks for the update :)
Yes we do both for my granddaughters the TGAB and Abeka math and ELA they both wk well together, the girls love them It truly help both girls read at 3 yrs old. The 6 old dose 2 grade level and 4 yrs old just started the k level.
#teachers
We are in our third year of homeschooling and I always find these kinds of updates so helpful.
UA-cam moms helped me when first starting too! So grateful for them!
#teachers Thanks for the freebie and giveaway opportunity!
Aww Mrs.Lola Mason ❤ !!! That is too cute. I am so happy you found out what works for your baby girl. You are so right my first few years of homeschooling we had a lot of changes now I feel like we have been making more so adjustments not so much huge changes for my oldest daughter too.😊
Mrs. Lola Mason 😂😂😂 love it! Yes there is always changes and tweaks but that can also be fun to try new things!
@@thepracticalhomeschooler 🤣🤣🤣 yes 🙌🏽

Thank you for your content! It is always very encouraging to me. Bless you and your family!
Thank you so much! Glad you’re here ☺️
#teachers I think this is a great way to blend Abeka and TGTB! I'm drawn to both for very different reasons, but it's hard to turn away from the solid phonics foundation of Abeka. But I love how you're doing it!
#teachers
I love your videos!!
I’m thinking about it! I might add it into a comparison video or a do a lesson with us video
#teachers thank you for offering this resource!
Thanks for the update and I appreciate the Good and the Beautiful reviews! #teachers
I always appreciate your perspective and find it helpful. So glad you found something that worked!
So glad to hear that!
#teachers TGTB has worked great for my first grader. Definitely her style as well. I love your honest feedback!
Nice! Glad to hear that! It’s always a relief to find what works!
#teachers
I love that the tracing book has a cover page and practice pages 😉 thank you for the freebie 🙏🏼 ❤
My first grader had the same problem this year with abeka math. He likes the good and beautiful math much better.
I also agree that abeka is just as amazing as the good and beautiful 100% ... it just depends on the child ❤ great video!!!
Thanks for watching! 🥰
#teachers Thank you for this video! What is the youngest age you would use the “who is God?” book? 😊
I’m using it with my 6 year old and she seems to be doing well with it. Probably not much younger than that as it does have some abstract concepts.
This is awesome! #teachers

Love to hear about your homeschool updates..to see what’s still working for you and what’s not..
Really? I’ve seen them but never looked much into it…I’ll have to check them out ☺️
@@thepracticalhomeschooler Yes!!
Those years are refreshing for sure!
Thanks for letting us know your thoughts on the Safety course! I wanted to do it for my Kindergartener but saw it was for grades 3-8. Might pick it up for next year!
Next year will be perfect 👍
I have actually been looking for a handwriting freebie. Handwriting is my first grader's biggest struggle this year. #teachers
🥰🥰🥰
#teacher
Thanks Lauren!
Love the flexibility to choose for each kiddo, even when it throws us mamas for a loop! 😂
#teachers thanks for the entry!
#teacher this will be an awesome help for my preschooler thank you!!
Thank you for your videos. #teachers
#teachers I love these update videos!
You’ll definitely get there! Eliminating what doesn’t work is always helpful!
I was so eagerly waiting an update o

#teachers thanks for the freebie!

Also to add to this I was wondering what you think about the possibility of using around the he world with picture books for grade 3, grade 1 and a preschooler (and at the time a almost 2 year old)
This will be the age of my younger set then I’ll probably go ahead and do master books for my 8th grader and 2 sixth graders

Isn’t it crazy you think you know exactly what they’ll like and then it ends up being the complete opposite 🥴🥴
