My son and his wife stayed at the Balmoral Hotel when they flew home from the Czech republic for his graduation at Napier University. I went to meet them on graduation day and he came downstairs in his cap and gown just at the same moment Patrick Stewart came through from the breakfast room, saw him and said "Congratulations young man". My daughter in law asked if he would mind having a photo taken with my son and he was so gracious. He was there for the 80th birthday of his friend Sean Connery alias James Bond!!
Wow!!! That was exciting! I once met Michael Caine at the Malta Hilton as a child. I was playing with a new girlfriend while on vacation (we lived in Libya at the time). She kept calling him “Uncle Mike,” but when my parents met him they told me he was really a famous film star! Uncle Mike was very gracious and told my dad (an engineer in the oil biz) that it was my dad’s career that was truly “glamorous.” My dad never forgot the kind words!! 😊
In 1970 my dad took us all on the night sleeper from London to Edinburgh. We each had our own compartment and it was a “doll house” experience. Old fashioned and charming, this has brought it all back. THANKS
Hope that Philip gets well soon. So unfortunate to be ill on such a trip. Congratulations to Nick and Marie. Stephanie you are a star to share this amazing adventure with us, thank you!
Seeing that Nick provided Stephanie with this trip of a lifetime, he certainly got his moneys worth with Stephanie's genuine joie de vivre, nobody ! does it better or with more pure joy. So glad to see Stephanie is not restricting what she eats either, that would be tragic, there's a time and a place for such things, this isn't it
Nice to see you in my hometown. My daughter was married in the Balmoral, it was an awesome day. The train is beautiful, looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey. Hope Philip feels better soon. 😊
I remember travelling up to Aberdeen Scotland on the overnight sleeper train. My father was in the RAF and we were moving to live there for 4 years. I remember it being such a huge adventure. Throwing pennies over the Firth of Forth bridge as we rumbled over it and my brother and sisters all having to make a wish as we did this. I hope you all have a wonderful Scottish holiday xx
True about the pennies there must be a few kilos of pennies at the bottom of the Firth of Forth by now , it probably was about 75 years ago when i threw my first one over the bridge .
Philip, I so feel for you, not being well on a much anticipated holiday is such a bummer. You were so kind to Anita and I when she could barely walk to the car when we visited last month, so much empathy in your eyes. We will never forget all of you for helping us that day. I send you lots of positive wishes that your cold disappears quickly and you continue your holiday in great health! ( or use your great acting skills to pretend you are ok) anita was really good at that ! Lots of love from canada❤
When I was 8 years old my parents and I took the Flying Scotsman or the Royal Scotsman (I was little so I don't remember!) from London to Edinburgh. We sat in a day cabin with a charming Englishman who was a member of Parliament. I remember he sent us a lovely Christmas card to our home in Los Angeles. About a year later we saw in the news that he was a Soviet spy who had defected to the USSR!
Oh my, how fascinating! There were quite a few Russian spies in high circles in Britain. Probably still are. Amazing how well they kept up their front until they defected.
That lovely bathroom wallpaper is a Morris & co print - I believe it’s called ‘The Brook’. In Canada, a company has licensed the pattern and renamed it ‘wightwick’; you can find here it on paper napkins and cork-backed placemats ✨
I admire Philip for taking the time to rest rather than attending dinner since he wasn’t feeling well. Often rest is the best medicine. I hope you recover quickly, Phillip.
Scotland the brave! Today was our Kirkin' of the Tartans which ended with a fabulous Scottish feast. Thrilling trip for you. Yes, Balmoral Hotel is the best place for a drink by the fireplace.
What a fantastic train & trip. The accommodations, food, stops. If I win a lottery, I’ll do the train trip too. Looks awesome. I love Scotland 🏴🇨🇦
OH MY GOSH!!! The intro shot of Scotland was amazing and that train is incredible!!! Well worth the 5 year wait!! I so hope Philip is feeling great now!! So lovely to see Marie and parts of Nick with you. Thanks for sharing - keep enjoying. Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
The accommodation is far better than the orient express, which we traveled on 5 years ago London to Venice .We had bunks, that were set up after we left the cabin for our dining experience. No toilet or shower in the cabin, however there were toilet facilities up the corridor, this toilet was massive larger than our cabin. Your journey looks marvellous
What an amazing train, thank you for taking us along. Just viewing is spectacular. Lovely to see Marie and Nick, love your hair Marie. Sorry Philip unwell, hope he soon recovers to enjoy this wonderful journey with the rest of you.
What a beautiful train. My Dad was an Engineer on the Northern Pacific Railroad for 34 years. So I have a love of trains. Your train is so beautiful, with all the wood and tweed. And wow, on the food. I hope Phillip is feeling better by tomorrow. He missed out of a yummy dinner.
Hi Stephanie, For the first time since watching your channel from the very first one I can say I am truly jealous of the of this long awaited trip. I think we'll move this one closer to the top of our bucket list since it will now be this instead of the Orient Express. Enjoy! Mark & Scott
We were visiting Scotland in early November 2023. The whole city of Edinburgh was coughing and of course, we picked up COVID and my husband had to rest every night. Hope Phillip improves quickly. It was a beautiful time of year to be in Scotland.
I was lucky enough to tour up the West of Scotland and then over the top( no sence of direction). It was this time of year exactly, we had sunshine everyday, we thought we'd get rain. The people were absolutely charming and so friendly. The food was great and the scenery, no words, stunning. Have a wonderful journey. Theres very little i get envious of, but i am most envious of you all. I do hope your husband/partner(sorry only found you today) is recovered. Have fun, stay safe🤗
I was born in Fife 70 plus years ago althoughI have lived in Australia for the last 35 years. I was so lovely to see the beginning of your journey. Uni in Edinburgh in the seventies. Just so nostalgic . Thank you.
Merciiiii beaucoup Stéphanie pour le partage de ce merveilleux voyage!!! Hope Mr Philip will be soon better...! That was a brilliant vlog thanks Stephanie....but poor Philip! How disappointing for you both, to have missed your 1st evening's meal together! My heart goes out to, and I do hope you feel much better very soon Philip. Hopefully, that hot toddy will have helped! 🤞Looking forward to the next vlog! 😁
Oh my goodness! This was filled with such beauty. Thank you for taking us along. It is wonderful. Sending prayers for Philip. Thank you for including us. This made my day!
What an amazing experience! The train's finishes look pretty great on UA-cam. I'd love to know how they prepared the deer. Philip, I hope you're feeling better soon. Enjoy your ride of a lifetime. ❤ from TX!
Isadore Duncan would say no dangling scarves. How beautiful,I couldn't help but think of the chateau escape to the dream and his beautiful faux wood paneling he has the color spot on.
My mother in law was born north of Edinborou0gh on Burnt Island. I love how the unrecognizable Nick always hides his face. So mysterious. I've heard of the Flying Scotsman and it is so beautiful inside with first class services.
I could feel the tears welling up when the bagpipes played in the station. I am a highlander from the North and for me Scotland is the most beautiful country but sadly I will not return physically but in my mind I am there. I grew up between the hills and the sea, climbing, fruit picking, walking home from school along the beach, collecting shells then tree climbing, old castle exploring, dorkin collecting, wild rasp jam making, drinking bubble river water, looking for freshwater pearls, picking bunches of leaves for mum. Idylic.
@@carolmcmanus170 I was raised north of Inverness, near Tain in Ross-shire opposite the Black Isle. All my family has gone along with the family home so no reason to go up anymore. I just hold onto the good memories now.
