Kenyans going to work in America should leave their pride behind, I dared to dream - Anthony Irungu

  • Anthony Irungu remembers very well how it felt to sleep under the bed because their house was so small the bed could only accommodate his mother and younger siblings.
Today he is proud of the man he has become. From sleeping hungry to affording three meals per day, being constantly chased out of school due to fees to attending the best universities in America, to working as an Uber driver in America.
He says though his mother is not around to witness his success, he knows she is smiling at him from heaven.
Here is his moving story proudly brought to you by KCB Bank

Otherwise huku hakuna time ya ku waste. And also what I have realized. The people who has been here for 20 to 30yrs they don't know if they been here that long.... to them or to me it looks like we came yesterday so by the time you know it. 40yrs ndio hiyo with Nothing to show home. I will never forget the day after working for 7 months when I said enough was enough and resigned from my convenient store job and drove from Center Point, AL to Houghton, MI, about 1100 miles ( 1760 km) a two days journey and joined graduate school. A year later, employers were hunting for me like a gazelle. Today, when I reflect back, I just thank God.

I had closure when mum passed since we talked a lot during her palliative care. I still cry and wish she was here but I also have to live my life. Its all right to cry and mourn but you also need closure. Do not let your past define you but use it to touch other peoples life.
