I'd love to see Super7 make more of "The power of Grayskull" it looked like it'd have been a really fun line with Dinosaur's,Barbarians,Archers,Wizards & tons of other stuff
I feel like the big difference in He-Ro is the eyebrow arch, which looks sinister. The vintage prototype looked spot on like a Mattel Ken doll. This facial expression is dead ringer for Mattel’s often forgotten 90s 5.5 line, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice. That Arthur in fact had gold armor and a red cape. And this facial expression. And it had a button in the back to raise his hands. I think Knights of Justice along with the New Adventures vehicles are probably an indication of where He-Ro and the Powers of Grayskull would have gone. At least toy-wise. I wouldn’t be surprised if KoJ reused engineering and gimmicks considered for Powers of Grayskull. They did reissue the Slime Pit for KoJ (in VERY limited numbers) or possibly plan to. The Slime Pit was in the KoJ cross sells and featured in the KoJ cartoon.
Just something about that he-ro face that gives me the creeps. It's the last face you wanna see when you suddenly wake up at 3am and roll over in bed and see that smiling at you. No thanks! On a side note Dan I never knew you owned a original Tytus and Megator fugure, that's awesome!
I love having the vac-metal armored He-Ro figure, but my only complaint is that his staff doesn't STAY closed once you close it. It would have been great if the crystal clicked into place and a button released it, making it spring open. As it is, you'd have to find some kind of small rubber band to put around it to keep it shut.
I totally agree! Why a spring mechanism that does'nt actually lock and leaves the staff closed? And why is the "jewel" so sharp on top? That was a total bummer to me. Other than that, great figures.
Incredible figures! Definitely one of the best things to come from Masters Of The Universe to this day! Having the full planned The Powers Of The Grayskull range.
Love these! Dream come true! Glad they did the right packaging too! Can’t wait to get mine! Awesome seeing them with vintage He-Man and the giants and dinos! But where’s the pic battling the vintage Snake Men & King Hisss?!
Once I got these open, my Snake Men got moved from MotU to Powers of Grayskull in my set up. It helps that the main villians from PoG were made already.
2:10: That is awesome how they have Tyrantisaurus Rex, Bionatops and Turbodactyl as the cross-sell there! LOOK FOR THE POWERS OF GRAYSKULL COMING YOUR WAY IN 1987!
Unfortunately Brian Flynn from Super7 stated recently that they only have rights to do „as seen on TV“ Filmation style figures in their MotU Vintage Collection. These two were an exception.
Yup. When they first announced these, I was hopefully we'd be getting a lot of "unreleased" 5.5's. But I know that's not possible any more...as it seems... I am very grateful we got these, though.
I still would love to see the 'Lost Wave' come out on Powers of Grayskull cardbacks. We already have the black & white line art for them and Super7 has made color schemes and names for all of them.
I am not sure, but that might explain why Mattel shows MOTU stuff at conventions. It would be nice if they did. Prices would go down and QC would go up
Brian Flynn said in a podcast that they have more unused designs in the drawer, so who knows if they will - and can - continue this. But these two look great, looking forward to your 5.5" wave 2 review!
@@isaactorres5908 It could come down to "stealing Mattel's thunder" so to speak. Take the Power Con 3-packs from last year and this year. Those were from the 'Lost Wave' so they get passed the "no new characters" rule. They are more just new to you & me. I think it would be cool to see those make it into 5.5".
@@isaactorres5908 Because, as a Mattel designer said in a recent interview, obscure characters don't sell nearly as well. That's why Mattel introduced Club Grayskull a few years back, since they were running out of "known" characters to do for Classics. I would assume that a lot of people collect MOTU because of the filmation cartoon or the toys they had as a kid. While the more "harcore" MOTU fan will probably appreciate a continuation of the line, most people seem to not care very much (me included). That said, what I meant in my original comment was that Super 7 apparently unearther designs for the Powers of Grayskull line that never made it beyond a concept drawing. So maybe they will release those eventually, who knows.
I love them and your review. My only thought is that the head looks a little off on He-ro. Maybe it because he is shiny or has a wider smile. His jaw line reminds me of Tick. Definitely worth the buy through. Thank you.
How do you open your figures up Dan? I have been cutting the bubbles off with exacto knife so I can keep the cardback as mint as possible with no tears.
Oh it would have been bonkers I'm sure. I don't know what Powers of Grayskull stuff never made it to the prototype stage, aside from the 6 figures from the "Lost Wave" of MotU. Those figures would have more then likely been part of this new line.

great review dan. the four horseman and super 7 nailed it. great figures vac metal etc. cant wait to get these in hand luckily I ordered to sets .so I can open 2 then keep the other to on card. more proto type figures indeed please fan demand.
It was Terror Claws Skeletor, Flying Fists He-Man, Snout Spout and Blast Attak. It defitnely was a good move and in the long run makes them WAY more sturdy.
I am so happy, that Super7 made these. I cannot believe original HE-RO and ELDOR fiigures really released and have them in my my collection. Unfortunatly I am missing the Mattel logo on the packagings.I wish more vintage releasing, like in example prototype versions from Mattel catalogs of original Masters Of The Universe toys. I don't prefer to release all figures in Filmation styles! My next most wanted, that Mattel or Super7 also bring back the original Princess Of Power Star Sisters prototypes!!!
Hey, Pixel Dan. I have a question for you. I heard that Super 7 are loosing the rights to produce MOTU figures and the the rights are reverting back to Mattel. Do you know anything about that? Thanks
I don't think this is official, probably a twist on what's really the case: Mattel never lost the rights to anything-MOTU/MOTUC. They never sold the brand, they just gave license to Super7, just like they did with Funko for their MOTU Pops. MOTU is was and will (most likely) always be a Mattel brand.
I read over at the Q&A on He-man.org that Super7 can only tackle Filmation style figures in 5.5" scale along with certain specific MotU characters? I think He-Ro & Eldor fit as they were never released?
I'm so glad they didn't originally change the line to this, what they did was so much better, there wouldn't have been a She-Ra line or cooler later figures if they did.
I believe that it's my "fault" that he got released with vac-metal armour. I totally spammed Super7 along with many of my friends. But it had to be done properly, didn't it? :P
Hi! Do you think we'll get some new vintage style figures from the Princess of Power? I'd really love to have the star sisters in my motu/pop collection! Thanks :)
They are supposed to be open backed bracers, which are a real type of historical armour. The gap allows it to bend open as you fit your hand though it, giving it a snug fit around the wrist. The 1982 He-Man figure has the same type on his left arm.
@Rob Cook They measure 5.5 inches from the top of their heads to the bottom of their feet however, as their legs are bent they would measure 6 inches, if their legs were straight, therefore they are in the 6 inch SCALE, which was the distinction being made.
I'm glad the vac metal is back. I lost all interest when they went the other route. I swear* I remember seeing He-Ro in a catalog when I was a kid. (Didn't they used to do that, Dan? Advertise toys that were about to be released but often were delayed or canceled?) But anyway I have wanted that character forEVer. Thanks Dan!
