- The best instant mashed potato recipe using shelf stable mashed potato flakes can be delicious when you are short on time. See Chef Dan's recipe below:
- 2 Cups Milk or Cream (what you have on hand)
- 2 Cups of Stock or Broth (you can use beef broth, chicken broth, vegetable broth)
- 4 Cups of potato flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Half stick of butter (optional)
- Ham, bell pepper (optional fillings)

I make real mashed potatoes all the time, with lots of butter and heavy cream. They are amazing. However, I do have instant potatoes and could never get them to taste good. You are 100 percent correct about everything you said. I finally figured out how to do it where they were really good. Do not use water! I heated up milk and heavy cream along with a few chicken bouillon cubes. I then added the potato flakes, butter a little bit of pepper. They were great.

Only problem with instant potato’s is the preservatives and emulsifiers and additives that come with it. Otherwise really convenient and quick
