  • The Moog Modular was an absolute monster of a synthesizer, and Arturia's emulation of it is a joy to behold. It's a great introduction to Modular synthesis - the idea of building a synth from blocks of components - since it's so easy to make amazing sounds!
    In this episode I go through the various different Filter Modules, and show you examples of some of the cool sounds you can get very easily out of this synth.
    About me:
    My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician and a songwriter. I've created this channel - One Man and His Songs - in order to share with you everything I learn as I strive to improve my songwriting skills. Watch my songs evolve each week - the rhythms, the melodies, the lyrics, the production... everything I need to learn in order to produce professional-sounding music of which I can be proud!
    I play the electric and acoustic guitar, and the bass guitar, and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.
    All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase.
    I want to build a community of music-lovers with whom I can share my experiences, and from whom I can gain valuable feedback as I pursue my dream of learning to write great songs. I really hope you'll join me on my journey!

    This series is an immensely simple, concise and scientific explanation of the moog and I'm really grateful that you're providing these goldmines free of cost.

    best tutorials out there.
    these vids are extremely useful for making sense of the Arturia instruments specifically but there's so much here for complete beginners (like me) to learn from. your explanations are clear, there's ample illustration of the principles in play and the videos are perfectly paced.
    big thank you from me for your efforts and for making these vids freely available

    Excellent! I just learned more in your 20 minute video than several hours spent on Arturia's V3 tutorials. Clear and concise, very well done. Looking forward to viewing your entire series & learning how to use the V3 to its full potential. Thank you for the effort, very well done!

    You, sir, are a godsend. Your Arturia series changed my life. I now feel like I'm getting the real value from the instruments, rather than just blindly preset scrolling.

      Great to hear, thanks for the feedback! OIhhhh... the blind preset scrolling... that vacant stare, and feeling that it might never end... :)

    I was blocked and discouraged for a long time (2 years?) after diving in the official Arturia manuals, as they are not very intuitive. Knowing the basics and with a bit of curiosity, i started to watch your videos and finally the ARP isn't scary anymore - now i'm taming the Modular :) From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your work - it keeps me going and experimenting, hope to see more of the Arturia stuff. Cheers. :)

    I'm finding that the keyboard controller panel just above the keyboard can also affect the audio processing. It may be necessary to configure that to a standard setting before starting to patch the synth. There are lots of hidden settings (like ENV 1 IN) that need to be checked and set (to Keyboard Trigger On). This seems to be a default but if anyone has been playing the synth beforehand then it could be a problem for the novice (like me!). Is there a way of setting the Modular V to a default configuration?

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, the "1 Osc 1 VCA" Template preset is a great default patch. All the basic stuff preconfigured, with no hidden nasties. And, yes, that ridiculous black button for ENV1 In is a real banana skin. Poor interface choice.

      @@OneManAndHisSongs I've looked at an original 911 module on which the ENV 1 is based and it contains a "Switch-Trigger" input that requires a special Voltage-Trigger to Switch-Trigger cable with a non-jack, two pin input (the Synthesizers.com website sell it new as QMVS-48). So it seems the original had a trigger input - as do several other Moog modules. I guess the guys at Arturia were trying to be consistent with Moog design.

      Yeah, sometimes I think they let form get in the way of function, but I do at least respect the purity of vision. Just not the way I'd have gone!

    • @edward_grabczewski
      @edward_grabczewski 3 роки тому

      @@OneManAndHisSongs I wonder why they didn't just build the special circuitry into the Switch-Trigger interface and use standard jack-ended cables instead of making everyone buy two different types of cable. Sorry, that's not really relevant here!
