Great episode. Kirstie gives us a very useful principle when she lists the criteria of size, condition and location -- and says that you might be able to get 2 out of 3, but not all three. Those young 'uns should take a bit more time to find a house.

I worked from home for over 20 years ion the basement and even then it was hard. You want your office out of sight in the basement, spare bedroom or BEST YET in an annex.
Fair comment. It is really great they found something they both really "loved" in the end [the dining room couple]. AND the other couple struck gold, too. Happy ending etc... But generally, these days, very few are prepared to take on a project, despite the real financial gains to be had ... But even as I speak: The Hay-making Summer is now over/Winter's here, now... Harder to realize gains now that the property boom has turned to bust.

Yes, but the house doesn't fit their needs. Remember, they wanted a dining room. Yes, it's an eat-in kitchen, but look at where the table is. It's smushed in the corner because of the cabinets around it and the sellers wanted to give the illusion of space. The chairs are literally up against the wall. When they're using it, they can't access the counter or cabinets and it looks like it's a squeeze.
I’m curious about something. Here in the US, in some towns, you need to be in a commercially-zoned area to run a business from your home. Is that also the case in the UK?
Usually if you're not drawing a lot of drive in or walk up traffic, it wouldn't matter. I got the impression that they needed work space, rather than retail. I hope someone answers your question about the UK
Not for what is termed a cottage industry (literally can be done in a cottage/residential area without disturbing neighbors).
