For those that don't already know, "ha" sound is in the Japanese version of the game (including in the Megadrive and Japanese Arcade versions) and the Sharp x68 was a Japanese system (as well as the PCEngine of course). Sharp ports of CPS1 games such as strider tend to be very close as the CPS1 hardware is based on the Sharp x68 hardware (but a bit better in some areas). The Sharp x68 was also literally used as the dev platform for CPS1 games too. The Playstation version of the game is fantastic as long as you turn off the horrible remix soundtrack (so yes, the original unaltered arcade music is available and the music is also correct for levels 3 and 5, see below). There's also an issue in the original Strider arcade board where the initial 1st level music plays on the 3rd and 5th levels. You'll see the music restarts at the points in those levels where it was supposed to change to something else as well. This led to a lot of people (at least in the US, not sure if this problem occurred in other countries) to assume that the Genesis port had added music. But later versions of the board had this issue corrected, with all the proper music for levels 3 and 5. Unfortunately, the mame rom dump from the original flawed board is the most common and is used in all of the Capcom's Classics collections out there (or at least that I know of). I wish the devs at Capcom would finally figure out they can download the romset for the newer strider PCB and finally we can have the proper music. I grew up playing arcade Strider on a machine that didn't have this issue, so having the broken music drives me nuts and makes the game unplayable for me. The rom is out there, I used to have it (and may still). I suspect it's pretty easy to find in any case. If I remember correctly, it may not be a stand alone romset as it's a revision.
The nes version on strider is base on the strider manga that was only made in japanese back in the late 80's that's why it was diffrent then the other strider games
Nice comparison. I was blown away by the Megadrive version of Strider when I bought it back in 1991. Actually think it had the best main sprite of any version and I prefer the music to the Arcade version. Clearly 2nd place in home versions of the time to the Sharp X68000 but considering that was a USD 3,000 computer on launch in 1987, the $199 Megadrive held its own. Sega did a great job on the reprogram and squeezing into an 8mb cart when the arcade rom was several times that size.
Seems to me they were cleverly playing to the strengths of the NES rather than trying to shoehorn an inevitably inferior port into hardware not built for it. Say what you will about the NES Strider--it was a thoughtful solution tailor-made for the hardware. And actually full of some pretty interesting ideas. It's also the only Strider game based on the plot of the original comic.
Thank you! My favorite Strider by far. It was an action RPG with a different villain all together than the traditional Metroidvania that were the arcade ports. Arcade version, Hiryu never had a back story and is just killing his way to the alien overlord. NES version, Hiryu is an assassin with PTSD trying to solve the mystery of his sister's death only to discover betrayal at the top of the assassin's organization, while experiencing a loss of best friend and girlfriend. Ending for Strider NES is much much better too, because they game was so hard, you feel like you "earned" Hiryu's freedom. Most people encountered Strider in the arcades so their nostalgia is for arcade perfection, but for people who actually owned Strider, this is one of the best hidden gems and easily the equal to Ninja Gaiden, if not better.
sega genesis version is a gem. just look at how faithfull the port is, just a bit brighter in color but not really lacking. like i say with many genesis games. good devs utilize the genesis it's pallet really well, just look at those treasure games, they look very vibrant like there are 100 or something colours on screen while there are just a mere 40.
I never once, ever saw a Strider arcade back in the day but was super excited for it's port on Genesis. I also really liked the NES version, different but still a great game on it's own.
Interesting that the C64, Atari ST, Amiga, and SMS versions all use the same poorly transcribed version of the theme music, adapted as appropriate for SID, AY-3, Paula, or SN76489 chip.
on getting a commodore 64 again, i realised the sid chip isnt what i remembered. the music quality is amazing, but most games on the format seam to be either sound or music and very few do both. which led me to re-evaluate my lofty opinion of the sid chip. now i like the other sound chips at the time more which might not be able to probuce that big thick bass of the c64 (atari 800 can) but offer a more rounded experience with music and sound effects the norm
I thought I was the only one who loved the NES version! I prefer this over the arcade. Only version with an actual plot, intrigue, death of sister and girlfriend, and the final twist ending with an OP villain. Game was HARD, and the awesome ending of hero walking into the sunset embracing pacifism, was just over the top. Best music too. I think most people hated it, because they couldn't follow the mangled engrish manga/anime cliche dialogues, characters, and storyline. They usually encountered Strider in the arcades and demanded arcade perfection. Poor arcade ports were for that "other" less fun console that starts with letter 's' and ends with letter 'a'.
Wow, I had no idea most of these ports existed. I never would have expected ports to slow, graphically primitive systems like the ZX Spectrum. That's really messed up how in the DOS version you apparently can reveal the helper robots but can't actually activate them!? Neat hearing the Commodore 64's rendition of Junko Tamiya's amazing score. Of course the crappy NES / Gameboy Advance game was developed completely separately, simultaneously with the arcade game. Genesis port was one of the most faithful arcade ports of the era. PC Engine version had a neat extra desert level and new cutscenes not seen here. Anyway, one of my favorite games -- thanks for another great comparison video!
The overall animation of strider himself is just as good as the arcade, the sword swing animation is not as big a deal for me. One of the best arcade ports on the genesis.
Paulo H. G. Ferreira I believe you are referring to the Motorola 68000 CPU, which was used in CPS1 hardware. The Sharp 68000 was a stand alone home video game console/computer. I hope this clears things up.
It was WAY more time consuming than I originally expected but all in all I think it turned out O.K. :) I Hope that You enjoy this video as it was My biggest challenge to date.
This project has been on the shelf for over 9 months. I had issues with obtaining workable footage on some platforms. It took a while to get everything together for it. Another issue I had was the flicker rate of the spotlights. Camtasia can capture rates up to 90 FPM on this computer but it creates lagg while recording. This is why I had to settle on 30 FPM for each video. I had to reduce the frame rate to 28 FPM for the PlayStation to eliminate sound skipping. This video has been a challenge.
The Turbo GrafX version is quite amazing. The Genesis of course is the closest to the Arcade so as the X68000. Other versions remain far from the original game. I had an Atari ST and enjoyed that game very much on it… :)
MetalSonicodraco7342 Well, not just the graphics, but the sounds of your game scratchily barfing at you--also a big turn-off. But hey, if you came looking for "faith in humanity" in the UA-cam comments section, dude, you came to the wrong place.
Oh, wait, is this a fanboy thing? I've got like 15 different working game systems at my house, spanning all the years and tons of different makers. I apologize if I offended some deep part of your childhood with comments about the Spectrum.
I'm always surprised at how many ports these games have. If someone asked me, I would've thought Strider part 1 was on maybe 4 systems, including arcade. Not 14. Anyhow, well done guys. This is a great bit of history.
1)Arcade 2)Ps1 3)X68000 4)Megadrive/Genesis(excellente conversion, almost arcade perfect considering that Sega's console came out almost 6 years before the Ps1 and a x68000 was much more expensive than a Megadrive.
@Retroid64 The music in the Arcade version repeating the same music over and over in the later levels was an error in the ROM and was corrected in later revisions of the Arcade release and in home ports that had decent music.
I remember being so tripped out when I first played the NES version as a kid (after having become so familiar with the arcade version). I was like "WTF is this????". Still ended up being one of my favorite games. I fondly refer to it as "Bizarro Strider".
In a sense, that the games only shared names with each other. Mind you, the NES version was developed in parallel with a Manga and the later Arcade game was sort of a 'tie in', but of course became more famous than the NES version which not even saw a Japanese release and was released 'half finished'. I do think it was a good idea of trying to make a game that would make more use of the NES abilities than trying to make an Arcade conversion. Same happened with Bionic Commando.
Apparently a Sam Coupe' version was in the works dubbed to be 'speccy code with ST graphics'. Never saw the light of day but would have been interesting to see!
The NES game and the game serve as prequels for the arcade game. Each of the three was made by an entirely different team (obvious in the manga's case). But yeah, they can be considered unrelated for the most part.
+David Hill Yes that would have been awesome. I'm pretty sure the SNES would have been able to run an arcade perfect conversion of this game, the SNES was capable of doing it.
+Grant Sibley not... with that slow cpu of the snes ..in the soundtrack another minus ..snes does not have fm chip....strider in arcade was a cps1 board ...thats why these game was exclusive for the megadrive.thanks to.the faster cpu and the fm syntenizer......ofcourse the arcade version have more colors
I have it on Switch (Capcom Arcade Classics) and Genesis Mini. Gotta say, they did a great job with the Genesis conversion. Very, very close to the arcade one in quality.
I guess the decision lies with Capcom but I think most fans can accept Arcade Strider 1 and 2 and NES Strider existing within the same universe/timeline. NES Strider happening after Arcade Strider and then followed up by Strider 2 (explaining why Hiryu was retired before the start of the NES game but still considered a rank A Strider and what happened to the world after the first 'death' of the Grand Master.)
If you see what complete abortions the arcade conversions on the 8-bits turned out to be (and of course the Atari ST and Amiga versions), I think Capcom made the right decision in creating an entirely different game for the NES. It's a pretty fun game too. As arcade conversions go, the Mega Drive port is brilliant. How the PC-engine CD version ended up being such a botch job really amazes me. And the X68000, well that machine is just amazing in general.
@johnnyxsi My 1st experience with Strider was on the NES. I thought it was kind of ok .. but felt generic. But when I played it on the Genesis it blew My mind ! This game was the reason I purchased a Genesis. I played it so much back then that I could complete a run without losing a life. I even recorded the run at one point.. I believe I completed the game in 13 minutes if My memory serves me correct. Wish I still had that VHS tape ! I would defiantly upload it. lol
It's a Japanese computer that utilized the 68000 CPU. This same CPU was later used in the Mega drive / Genesis among others. This computer was often used to create many of the arcade titles that You enjoyed as a kid. This is why the translations are so dead on accurate from the arcade.
Also NES and Arcade Strider were simultaneously developed to coincide with the release of the comic--even though Strider NES never came out in Japan. So it wasn't a cash-in, but it was pretty weird, right?
@A Scott: The X68000 port is great but the PC Engine one is horrible. The Mega Drive port is much better and also was released years before! :) The Mega Drive was arcade at home, Strider is a good example and also Golden Axe, Outrun, Columns, Street Fighter II, Fire Shark, Final Fight CD and many many more...
That is generally why I don't include new generation consoles. Unfortunately, many people get bent out of shape when they aren't included. I usually will only include them when their is a noticeable difference. Such as updated graphics or in this case a new updated sound track.
@thejackal007 The PlayStation version was almost perfect ! And the addition of an updated sound track made it stand out. The only thing that took points away IMO was the loading times. What You saw here was not the actual load time. I trimmed it down 10 seconds to save time. I used the new track to showcase the PS version. The second in My own opinion was the X68000 a near arcade perfect translation. The sprites were a little more choppy but it was still very playable & smooth. 3rd to continue.
@GamingHistorySource Well thanks for the hard work you put in on this! I love version comparisons and seeing Strider on my subs wall was a godsend. With that said, I would have loved to see the "hill run" in level 2 and how it differed in each version. Not trying to sound ungrateful, just wishful thinking. ;)
I remember wanting the Atari ST one, and the local computer store sold the European imports. Luckily couple of years later the Playstation had the 1&2 collection with perfect emulation.
I agree. For me in some ways the Mega Drive version has better visuals than the Arcade original. I think Sega ported this one themselves (like they also did later on with Mercs) and I think they possibly wanted to make their version look the best...
I love this game! My favourite version was the MD and it's funny how the PSX version wasn't as good 😕 very strange, and where were Nintendo going? Looks like the changes the Shinobi character at the last minute 🤔
Great video! I love the PC Engine soundtrack but the Mega Drive wins out of the 16-bit console ports. The X68000 port was spot on, as were all the Capcom ports. The 8-bit computer ports are painful to see, but that's the best they could do I guess.
The score from @6:24 - 6:28 of the Amiga version! WHY DOES NO ONE INCLUDE THIS…THE MAIN SCORE…IN ANY OF THE SOUNDTRACKS HERE ON UA-cam?!?! I’ve been searching for a stand alone version of this score for years and have never been able to find one.
@bencheshire nope. Some versions are slower because they were only available in PAL territory. They played fine to me. But the older versions were slower anyway.
Great video. Those voice samples they felt the need to add on some versions every time you swung the sword (especially the one on the Amiga version) would've really annoyed the hell out of me - ruined what would have otherwise been a great coin-op conversion.
It's weird, I can't quite put my finger on it but the MD/Genesis version looks better than the Arcade, even. Something about the main Hiryu sprite, it looks nicer somehow. Bizarre.
The Megadrive/Genesis version is the version I'm most familiar with, having first played it on my friend's import MD back in the day. It totally blew me away. No other version comes close. And why are so many NES arcade ports remixes of the originals and nothing like the arcade games they're based on?
The DOS version sounds like Centipede. LOL My hat's off to Sega. They did it good. I didn't even know half these existed. I had no clue there was a PSX version. I played the NES version years ago and it SUUUCKED! Then they turn around and port the same garbage to GBA.
Strider 2 also had the first game packaged with it on a separate disc.. Confusingly enough, the disc marked Strider is Strider 2 while the disc marked Strider 2 is the arcade original.
I feel like this video is in the desperate need of a remake which needs to include the Tiger LCD version and a 128k version for the ZX Spectrum replacing the 48k version.
As far as ports go, Genesis, X68000 and TG-SCD clearly are the way to go. The PS1 version, arcade perfect for the most part and with a remixed soundtrack, is hands down the best one. Regarding the NES's Strider (and its GBA re-release), it should've been left out, as it's a totally different game, sharing only the title and main character with the arcade one.
The NES game is actually a completely different game. While the arcade original has its original own plot, the NES game is based on the original manga that spawned the whole franchise. It follows the story of the manga with a few changes. The Kazakh level and theme song are completely different because of this reason. It's usually the most obscure game of the franchise-even Strider Returns is more well-known, for being awful and non-canon, thankfully.
It's also important to note that the current lore of Strider excluded basically everything from the manga safe from the music of the NES adaptation. No references to Strider Kain or Strider Sheena anywhere. And basically everyone safe for Hiryū is a character originally created for the game lore only (say, Strider Hien, the Pooh sisters, Solo, Ouroboros...), So it's debatable if the manga is even canon to the Strider series.
Capcom seriously needs to come up with a new version of Strider. One that plays similar to the new Ninja Gaiden games. Perhaps they could hire Team Ninja (or better yet, hire Valhalla Studios) to develop it.
@TheMathius78 I was actually considering the hill run on this video. The only reason I didn't do it was because that level was so horrible on other versions. The sky isn't even blue on them. Very disappointing.
Indeed the Pc Engine looks great.C64 vers. is pleasant to see, nice music rendition and does the job in my opinion. The strange fact is that,as far as I remember from the 90s (I bought an Amiga 500 expanded again from Ebay lately, but don't have the game yet) Amiga version has those graphics glitches in the first stage background even in the original diskette running on the real Amiga (maybe was due to the 512kb expansion inside, but not used) :-| The St version isn't bad either, nice sounds. :)
It is amazing that because of the shit Nintendo did in the 80's and early 90's that most people never got the chance to play the much superior Sega Master System version.
Also it's likely the NES got a different version thanks to Sega. As back then they were head to head in the console wars so I'd guess they slipped a few quid to capcom to keep it off the NES?
even for the arcade version, the graphics are interesting, but there are not very fluid animations for the sprite characters- seems there are only a couple of frames of animation for executed movements, characters tend to flicker, and so on- all the home systems replicate that aspect quite well
Think about any arcade conversion to NES (or even SNES), they all went from having some "natural" differences up to be something totally different. Don't misunderstand me, I'm a NES-SNES fan, but having those extra levels in both TMNTs in NES and SNES and the totally different indian stage in Sunset Riders helps making my point clear. * I know they're konami games and you mentioned capcom games, but it's like saying "many game developers did the same".
I think the reason why this was badly ported to the Amiga was because its version was created alongside the ST version (I think at the time the ST hadn't died a death yet) The ST version looks and sounds not much better than the Master System version. I think if the Amiga version was created alongside the X68K version it would have been a lot better.
The PC Engine version is such a mess: awful colors, lot of flickering, lacks some parallax, less enemies, etc. To think that it was released in 1994 with CD + Arcade Card support and it still pales in comparison to the Mega Drive/Genesis port which was released in 1990 solely on cartridge... just lol. btw the Mega Drive japanese version also has the voice when you use the sword which makes it more satisfying IMO.
The arcade ending just re-uses "Raid" and shows Hiryu riding away on a whale. In the Genesis/MD version, the ending music starts with a modified version of "Roaring" (Amazon second half) while Hiryu runs from Third Moon as it crumbles, then switches to a short and annoying loop of triumphant music as he flies his glider through a credits roll.
I believe that the most faithful version to the arcade , is the mega drive , the graphics have a good resolution , the music has a good quality , and the gameplay is quite fluid . The version of the turbo grafics cd , has a song with very good quality , however the flow has problem ,and the characters disappear! And the Japanese version of mega drive has the voice of the character , I wonder why the Genesis version , does not have the voice! In more this is a great classic ! Japanese mega drive version ua-cam.com/video/aeB5rMQTgqA/v-deo.html
+Nelson Julio Meloni Japanese version also has Meio shout "all sons of old Gods die" at the end. Could you imagine the American Christian right's outcry over a game talking about killing God?
Nelson Julio Meloni It could be seen as offensive to atheists, too, considering they don't believe they're sons of old gods and all. Still, this line did make it into both the English localization of the arcade version as well as the Japanese Mega Drive port.
The versions where Hiryu yells "Ha!" when he slashes are so irritating. I've been playing the Genesis/Megadrive version since I was a kid and I guess its because I'm used to hearing something else, but I can only imagine playing the entire game with that constant "Ha-ing", I'd go mad.
For those that don't already know, "ha" sound is in the Japanese version of the game (including in the Megadrive and Japanese Arcade versions) and the Sharp x68 was a Japanese system (as well as the PCEngine of course).

Cool fact

Who'd have thought the Soviet union would still be around in 2048?
The Genesis version was simply amazing. Props to SEGA for creating a masterful port by leveraging the capabilities of their machine.
Had this for the sega genesis, it was one of the games I played the most along with kid chameleon and vectorman
damn the Sharp version looks like a basically perfect arcade emulation, real nice

oh yes @@Morboeatspeople
@Ben Owen1 both games were good. There is even the 2014 version which is very fun.
Ben Owen1 spoken like a true Sega Fanboy. You're comparing apples to oranges. Both are awesome but completely different games.
man,I remember playing the Master System version when I was a kid, that damn music couldn't get out of my head for days...

Did you even watch the X68000 version? It's almost exact to the arcade, even more so than Genesis/Megadrive.
Paulo H. G. Ferreira Nope, it is a stand alone video game console/computer entertainments system but it only released in Japan. It is made by Sharp.
Paulo H. G. Ferreira I believe you are referring to the Motorola 68000 CPU, which was used in CPS1 hardware. The Sharp 68000 was a stand alone home video game console/computer. I hope this clears things up.
***** I owned the Genesis port, I loved it. It was an exceptional conversion, and one of my favorite Genesis games.
Genesis was a near perfect port. I still have Strider on my Genesis Multicart and play it often.

Spectrum versions are often surprisingly good and hold up quite well for the lousy 1982 hardware they ran on !
Awesome!!!! Long time Strider fan and Ive never seen actual footage for the Super CD version!!!
I remember playing the Genesis version on a service, called Sega Channel.
I'm always surprised at how many ports these games have. If someone asked me, I would've thought Strider part 1 was on maybe 4 systems, including arcade. Not 14.

Que piada! Genesis é melhor até mesmo que o arcade.
É o caso onde o aluno supera o mestre.

The Sharp X68000 has a big edge, as many of the games of the time used 68000 processors in their arcade hardware, so the emulations are spot on.
Never saw the light of day but would have been interesting to see!
this is awesome. I had the genesis version and I loved this game. Never knew there were so many versions of this game.
The NES game and the game serve as prequels for the arcade game. Each of the three was made by an entirely different team (obvious in the manga's case). But yeah, they can be considered unrelated for the most part.
For only a 8 meg cart, the genesis ver is great.
I wish Strider was on the SNES.
+David Hill Same here. There is a close clone available called Run Saber that you might like.
I played through Run Saber before, not once but several times. Run Saber was published by Atlus. I wish there was a remake or sequel on the game.
+xtreme gold sf2 was also cps1. snes could have done strider easily. sega fanboys still clinging on to that extra 3.1mhz
I have it on Switch (Capcom Arcade Classics) and Genesis Mini. Gotta say, they did a great job with the Genesis conversion. Very, very close to the arcade one in quality.
4:25 Loving the music of C64 version.
The Mega Drive was arcade at home, Strider is a good example and also Golden Axe, Outrun, Columns, Street Fighter II, Fire Shark, Final Fight CD and many many more...
That is generally why I don't include new generation consoles. Unfortunately, many people get bent out of shape when they aren't included. I usually will only include them when their is a noticeable difference. Such as updated graphics or in this case a new updated sound track.
GENESIS EPIC WINS!
ZX spectrum too
I admire the work of porting the arcade version to the Master System. They didn't dare try that on the NES.
3rd to continue.
choppy ? I don't think so. I own the game in original for X68000, and it runs full speed.
Genesis and arcade blows the other out of the water.
The sharp X68000 is great too.
The Jolly DJ the X68000 is literally the arcade version though...
If u want the best the original strider has to offer the arcade version stands alone!
Dam the turbo grafx has a good version of strider I'm impressed
Looks like the changes the Shinobi character at the last minute 🤔
the NES/Gameboy Advance Version is Actually Strider Zero the Beginning of the Strider Series
The Capcom Classics Collection for the original Xbox is the most faithful to the arcade version.
Great video! I love the PC Engine soundtrack but the Mega Drive wins out of the 16-bit console ports. The X68000 port was spot on, as were all the Capcom ports. The 8-bit computer ports are painful to see, but that's the best they could do I guess.
Indeed, it was ported by Sega themselves. I think it was for the better as, at the time, they knew their hardware far better than other developers.
@GamesFreak1 The voice was available in the arcade machines & could be turned on & off via a dip switch.
Interesting, I like how the PS and x68K versions allow you to see more screen than the genesis version and still be hq.
@bencheshire Sometimes when a video looks squashed it's because it was stretched by the movie making software.
Little known fact the Megadrive/Genesis ver of Strider was the hardest of them all including the Arcade.
Bizarre.
@DanZero77 If Strider was ported to the FM Towns, it would be as visually accurate, but the audio might have itself enhanced.
The Megadrive/Genesis version is the version I'm most familiar with, having first played it on my friend's import MD back in the day. It totally blew me away. No other version comes close. And why are so many NES arcade ports remixes of the originals and nothing like the arcade games they're based on?
Turbografx and X68000 are amazing!
The DOS version sounds like Centipede. LOL My hat's off to Sega. They did it good. I didn't even know half these existed. I had no clue there was a PSX version. I played the NES version years ago and it SUUUCKED! Then they turn around and port the same garbage to GBA.
that game was based if the manga and not arcade game that one was more metroidvainia like the 2014 one
Romell Poellinetz
I rented it and played it for 2 days. I really tried to like it, but in the end, I got nowhere with it.
@Guernicaman agreed. Capcom has done very little with this. There should be more ! releases.
ohh BTW.. I didn't mean to cheat on the DOS version. It got stuck on Trainer & I couldn't get it off of it. :(
The NES game is actually a completely different game.
The Commodore 64 's music is far SUPERIOR in every way
I'll say one thing The Sharp never fails to amaze
Indeed the Pc Engine looks great.C64 vers. is pleasant to see, nice music rendition and does the job in my opinion. The strange fact is that,as far as I remember from the 90s (I bought an Amiga 500 expanded again from Ebay lately, but don't have the game yet) Amiga version has those graphics glitches in the first stage background even in the original diskette running on the real Amiga (maybe was due to the 512kb expansion inside, but not used) :-|
The St version isn't bad either, nice sounds. :)
It is amazing that because of the shit Nintendo did in the 80's and early 90's that most people never got the chance to play the much superior Sega Master System version.
I have original the spectrum game and a copy of the amiga one...the arcade is awesome.
Also it's likely the NES got a different version thanks to Sega. As back then they were head to head in the console wars so I'd guess they slipped a few quid to capcom to keep it off the NES?
The Sega version is the truth! Looks even better than the arcade with the larger sprites
even for the arcade version, the graphics are interesting, but there are not very fluid animations for the sprite characters- seems there are only a couple of frames of animation for executed movements, characters tend to flicker, and so on- all the home systems replicate that aspect quite well
The NES versions music sounds like the Cheetahmen from Action 52.
Sharpx68000 very good!
I think the reason why this was badly ported to the Amiga was because its version was created alongside the ST version (I think at the time the ST hadn't died a death yet)
The ST version looks and sounds not much better than the Master System version.
+ben owen Yes! And the removal of this exact sentence in the Genesis version also makes it somewhat censored.
*****
Another music was apparently intended but eh, dunno what happened there.
*****
Oh, interesting. You just picked that from where? Gonna check this.
+ben owen
Mmh, ok, I'll see about this and tell you if I find anything.
Japanese mega drive version
ua-cam.com/video/aeB5rMQTgqA/v-deo.html
+Nelson Julio Meloni Japanese version also has Meio shout "all sons of old Gods die" at the end. Could you imagine the American Christian right's outcry over a game talking about killing God?
It's not a game talking about killing God, it's a game talking about killing Christians, Muslims, etc... ;)
trip2themoon Wow! Thanks for the explanation , I could not imagine that this was so controversial as to have no voice, as a reproach !
echelon2k8
I do not know the history of this game, but if it involves religion , it is offensive to many.
Nelson Julio Meloni
It could be seen as offensive to atheists, too, considering they don't believe they're sons of old gods and all. Still, this line did make it into both the English localization of the arcade version as well as the Japanese Mega Drive port.
The Sega Genesis version looked nearest to the arcade version out of all the other versions.
Had the C64 version, looks surprisingly good compared to most.
arcade,sony playstion,x68000,genesis,turbo graphic..are my top five,from best to ok..
Capcom games were developed on the Sharp X6800, including Street Fighter 2 and Final Fight, so they are almost identical to the arcade
I wonder why the NES version turned out very different compared to the rest. It was more of an action adventure with a bit of RPG elements in it.
Not to mention that the PC ENGINE had 2 extra levels included in it... that no other system had
