Another tip for Fushimi Inari is that you can climb it at night. It's such a surreal experience and feels so peaceful. The shrine grounds dont close and it's very well lit all the way up.
Been to Kyoto twice. Your video wants me to go back. I have been to each of the places you showed, except the karaoke. Thanks for the wonderful remembrance.
Love that u also included the list in the description.. I don't always have 15 minutes of silent dead time to finish a video, but ur list is perfect. Thanks, thumbs up just for that bud
I visited Fushimi Inari last May but we got there late in the afternoon and yes, there were tons of people. I did the typical tourist thing and didn't make it all the way up the hill because of time constraints. It's super gorgeous though! I hope to get back to Japan one day. Great vid!
So many things to do! Kudos to you, waking up at 5AM?! That's just wow. I'll try to follow your tip, I'll be at Fushimi Inari before 7am! BTW. How much is the ninja dojo class?
Gareth Leonard yes very nice bro if you are still there then im releasing my samurai music soon ill give you a link check it out when you have a time and share it with your japanese friends and i hope you will enjoy it
I was in Kyoto 2 years ago and it didn't make an impression on me. This video has changed my perception. I hope I can visit more of Kyoto on my next visit. Great video.
thanks man, i can see you have the gift to experience and live deeper even when you travel. I can see your tips are more useful and more on point that all those other youtube videos - good job , ill sub.
That is a great tip to rise and head out early. Not only do you avoid the tourist crowds but you have more time to explore! #winning. A bit of a challenge when I like staying out late all night 😥😂 lol thanks for the great video!
Great tips! Is it really manageable to to do all these in 1 day? Planning our trip for September... we will definitely take your advice to wake up early and make it to Bamboo Forest and Fushimi Inari. Thanks!
Great video and excellent channel. We are in Japan on honeymoon and in Kyoto now and have the bikes rented for tomorrow morning. If anyone would like to call me at 5am tomorrow morning with a wake-up call that would be great!
Hi great video we are going to kyoto on honeymoon tomorrow and wondered if u can remember which restaurant you went too for the shabu? Looked great thanks
I think you hit it in the middle of a tourist season. Great tip for visiting a foreign country: Travel between tourist seasons. Hotels are cheaper and the streets are more quiet.
Hello Gareth, I hv 2 questions for you : 1. Where's is the best place to rent a bike (balance between price and availability)? Is Kyoto Central station ok? 2. So if I'm using bicycle can I just leave the bike anywhere while I'm walking at the bamboo forest or Fushimi Inari shrine without worrying if someone steals my bike.?
MUHAMMAD KHAIRI AIMRAN you must not worry that someone stole your bike but one many places you are not allowed to leave your bike there. So you must be careful where it is allowed to leave your bike.
I rented a bike for 600yen per Day, e bike is 1000yen from my guest house Bike comes with wheel lock but yes you must only park at designated bike stops. Gion minami house is excellent to stay in Kyoto
Though it is usually full of visiting tourists, you may also want to consider Kiyomizu-dera (pure water temple) which is beautiful architecturally. and has scenic views. It's one of my favorites in Kyoto.
so you just jumped around Kyoto in one single day? what's the rush? Also Fushimi Inari I'd recommend in the evening. Lack of people, wild animals and surreal atmosphere.
Lol, glad I already had the opportunity to take great pics early in the day, of the Inari temple and the bamboo forest. If everyone takes your advice, the ability to take great photos will be lost! Kyoto was one of my favourite places in Japan. :)
Do you have recommendations with bike rentals? Looks like most places around Kyoto station do a 6AM-6PM day rental. If you do the 5AM run to Arashiyama did you end up picking up the bike a day before and do a 2 day rent?
Hi, my boyfriend and I are planning to go to Kyoto. Are most sight-seeing areas accessible by bike and within biking distance? If so do they offer bike maps? Thanks!
Question for you! In what area for Kyoto are you staying in? I want to attempt this biking around Kyoto when I go this year :) any help would be much appreciated !
Hey Sissi, I have an AirBnB in the Chuancho neighborhood (near Restorante Misato). Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any other specific questions.
Just a quick question...where did you stay in kyoto? I am planning on travelling solo in japan and kyoto is where i will mostly be..i wanna do that bike trip.
While the boys go to a Ninja Dojo class, the girls can book time at a studio and dress up like a Maikosan and go around Gion. Unique experience that you can't miss!
Don't go to the bamboo forest in Arashiyama (North/West) and then to Fushimi Inari (South). Do it on two separate days. They are literally on opposite sides of the town. You can use your time better if you minimize your travel time, especially if you don't have many days to spend. Kinkakuji (North) is pretty close to Arashiyama, so combine those. Gion is on the other side of town (Middle/East), combine that one with Kiyomizudera or Ginkakuji. Going anywhere early is a good tip though.
Can you really make it to the bamboo forest and Fushimi-Inari on a bike in such a short amount of time? Looking at a map, they seem to be on opposite ends of the city.
I aso do the same, waking up early to have the spots for yourself. Is your Airbnb near to those places (in kyoto)? Cos it seems like its really a loong way to bike. :-) I'm thinking also of doing the same..aside frm saving some $$, u can have a glimpse of the sights you'll pass thru and have a quick stopover for a photo op hahahaha
Another tip for Fushimi Inari is that you can climb it at night. It's such a surreal experience and feels so peaceful. The shrine grounds dont close and it's very well lit all the way up.
Learning about my own country from the person with the most insightful view of the country! You da man!!
That means the world to me Ken, thank you!
Gareth smashed,for sure.
Waking up early, exactly! I do this at high tourist areas to get the best pictures; or show up near closing or late and it tends to be good as well.
Great video show casing a great country which is not only technologically one of the most modern but deeply spiritual at the same time.
The bike bell at the very end is class. Great edit and flow mate.
Thanks Greg, I appreciate it man!
Really appreciate your mindfulness of time to avoid the crowd. Thanks for the good tips !
I visited Fushimi Inari last May but we got there late in the afternoon and yes, there were tons of people. I did the typical tourist thing and didn't make it all the way up the hill because of time constraints. It's super gorgeous though! I hope to get back to Japan one day. Great vid!
Kyoto is amazing. I went there last summer and am going back again for this summer.
definitely waking up early and renting a bike!!!! Can't wait!!!!
As always, thank you for a beautiful and genuinely personal video.
Thanks Melissa!
I like to visit the bamboo forest someday. The view there looks stunning.
Bamboo forest is just stunning but it's soooo busy there as you can imagine!
So many things to do! Kudos to you, waking up at 5AM?! That's just wow. I'll try to follow your tip, I'll be at Fushimi Inari before 7am!
BTW. How much is the ninja dojo class?
How was your trip

Clever transition from the Go-Pro on top of the bamboo sword target to the bike!!
I was in Kyoto 2 years ago and it didn't make an impression on me. This video has changed my perception. I hope I can visit more of Kyoto on my next visit. Great video.
Thank you so much Ernesto, I hope you have a better experience next time!

Wow! I can feel how moved you were at Fushimi Imari!!!!!
I really loved that place (until the people arrived)!
Great video and excellent channel. We are in Japan on honeymoon and in Kyoto now and have the bikes rented for tomorrow morning. If anyone would like to call me at 5am tomorrow morning with a wake-up call that would be great!

I think you hit it in the middle of a tourist season. Great tip for visiting a foreign country: Travel between tourist seasons. Hotels are cheaper and the streets are more quiet.

So, is it worth to rent a bike if it’s hard to find places to leave it? Did you so it? Suggestions ???
Thnx !
Though it is usually full of visiting tourists, you may also want to consider Kiyomizu-dera (pure water temple) which is beautiful architecturally. and has scenic views. It's one of my favorites in Kyoto.
Thanks for the recommendation Terry! I will have to check it out on my next trip to Kyoto!
You're welcome. Enjoy your stay in my favorite country in the world to visit.
Isn’t there like thousands of cherry trees there?

so you just jumped around Kyoto in one single day? what's the rush? Also Fushimi Inari I'd recommend in the evening. Lack of people, wild animals and surreal atmosphere.
Oh wow breathtaking!!
Love it! Just subscribed to your channel and loving your videos.
Great video and great choices! One question, was these all done in 1 day trip?
No, this was done over the course of two days. I woke up early both days, first for the shrine and next for the bamboo forest.
Ahhh. Got it! Thanks for the great tips and awesome videos! Keep on doing what you are doing and keep getting what you've got! :)
Lots of good info, thanks
From Osaka, what time would you suggest leaving by train to head to arashiyama bamboo forest followed by fushimi inari shrine?
Love your videos! what kind of camera u use?
Lol, glad I already had the opportunity to take great pics early in the day, of the Inari temple and the bamboo forest. If everyone takes your advice, the ability to take great photos will be lost! Kyoto was one of my favourite places in Japan. :)
Smart tips!
Question, I dunno if it’s the New York in me but do you have to chain your bike when you park it there?
I got to do half of the stuff that you did! I need to go back xD
I completely understand, still so much I missed!
i will go there with my sister this coming October i'm super excited XD
You're going to love it! We will be uploading a video on things to do in Kyoto in a couple of weeks so stay tuned! 😁

Nice tips
ninja dojo... you earned another subscriber
We are staying in the city center, is it possible to get to all these by using public transportation? Train/bus?
Hi Gareth,
How much would you recommend my budget should be for a 1 week stay? With everything considered?
Cheers
How long did it take you to ride the bike from your place to Arashiyama?
Gareth, you're a super ninja.
While the boys go to a Ninja Dojo class, the girls can book time at a studio and dress up like a Maikosan and go around Gion. Unique experience that you can't miss!

8:21 "these are the best things to do in Kyoto.." with a shot of the 2 girls... I see what you did there.
Ahh wish I would've found this before I went to Kyoto! I crossed off a few of these things at least :)
Where'd you rent your bike that early? Googled cycling rental shops and they open at 10am :'(
dude probably bought his own bike there lol
@@lyhthegreat Rent a bike for a few days
Can you really make it to the bamboo forest and Fushimi-Inari on a bike in such a short amount of time? Looking at a map, they seem to be on opposite ends of the city.
It's barely impossible with the timetable from the video...
Just beautiful 😍😍
Thank you 😊

Editing skills on point... very informative!
Thanks man!
Where did you park your bikes at these places?
Nice, Gareth!

do you have to pay anythng to go into the shrines?
What is the name of the shabu shabu restaurant?
do you remember name of this shabu shabby restaurant ?
Hey Dude, superb content but please get a gimbal for your cam.
He is right. Go early to the imari shrine. Before 8am. U will be tired but its worth it and u avoid the crowds
