Please be safe and manually lock your doors when parked sitting in the car now they will only lock automatically when key is on and in drive or reverse .
Glad to hear it 🤠 you can also set it so it leaves the driver door unlocked only and all others lock . Or whatever door / doors you prefer to remain unlocked I select all doors unlocked 😁 🔓 . Although be careful when you stop somewhere to eat inside the car etc when you turn the car off the doors won't lock so you can be eating socializing etc and the doors will be unlocked I push the button manually it's like second nature now for me .
Thank you for this! I was helping my mom bring gifts to her car and figured "I'll let it warm up for her drive" as she was walking out I got out and the door closed and she gasped saying "Oh no!" The doors locked, luckily the door did not close fully and it was easy to get a wire hanger in there to get it opened again. This would make it a huge pain to take groceries off for her and she had just gotten used to it. A quick search pulled this video up, and I was able to get that auto lock disabled for her. Much appreciated man.
Glad to help just remember tho for personal safety now if your eating in your car from a drive thru or whatever you must lock your doors manually by pressing the lock button .

Once had to hop out for a second, the door was already locked because of that dumb feature that locks it as soon as you open it, and the engine was running with my purse and phone inside. I had to trust strangers to watch the car while I tried to see if I could get home to get a spare key. No such luck and had to wait in cold for an hour for it to get unlocked. Was thinking the car had some major electronic issue. Thank you so much for saving me so much money; the door recently did the same thing at the dealer and they were perplexed and didn't know how to fix it. Thought it was the key fob. They didn't know about turning on the antilock feature that you showed me. Thanks for posting this!!
😎👍 thank you so much glad to help keep in mind although that sometimes if they ever do any work to your electrical such as change your battery or something periodically go back into the settings and make sure that that feature is turned off because the my link can go back to default settings. And then you'll be right back into the same place you were again it's happened to me before when I change my battery , I don't know why GM put that feature on there I guess it's for safety or something but if you leave the key and the ignition with the car running why in the world would you want your doors to lock??? It makes no sense but at least they left us with the option of turning it off.
My 2013 Sonic LT does this. I’ve tried doing what you’re talking about but it still does it. I used to work at a gas station that required us to pull our car up to the front door (small kiosk setup). It was super cold outside so I parked my car and left it running for the heater and as soon as I go to get in my car after closing, it locked itself as soon as I pulled on the handle. It didn’t open a little to where I can get something in there are get it open, nope was completely shut running with my phone sitting on the passenger seat! I was fighting to get it open with a wire hanger we used around the kiosk. Took me 45 minutes to get it open. I was determined because I had no money at the time to pay for someone to come out and unlock my car. I was so mad!!! It still does it to this day with the whole locking and unlocking situation. If I do leave my car with the keys in it even for just a few seconds, I’ll roll the window down to where I can reach in and unlock it. I’ve put waaayyy too much money into this car. Im on my 3rd turbo. First one went out at 89,000 miles then at a little over 120,000 miles. First turbo replacement was under warranty still but the second time it wasn’t ($2467) AC worked on TWICE, the first time it prevented my car from even starting. Had to have some circuit replaced. Inlet and outlet hoses for inner-cooler. New water pump, and multiple thermostats (they all kinda exploded??) but thankfully no more problems with that. Valve cover replaced and the cam shaft positioning sensors gaskets replaced. PCV hose replaced (my fault 😊). Purge valve replaced too. I have a love hate relationship with her. She does not like it when the temp is over 85 with regular gas. I use premium in the summer.
There's a recall on the mylink they were supposed to update it for the failed key chime to warn you the keys were still in the ignition . They reprogrammed mine didn't do anything only thing I can suggest try it again make sure it saves the changes could be a faulty mylink I know this is a booger but those key fobs there cheap on e bay or Amazon I washed a few and replaced them at the dealer/ Stealer lol. Last time I bought mine on Amazon watched a you tube video and programmed it myself . A spare key fob ? Hidden ? On you belt or in pocket you got to do what you got to do sorry it didn't work keep trying it or call the Chevy dealer ask about the recall they love warranty stuff ...
There's 3 recalls from factory at any milage warranty or not . 1 is the key chime not working and you forget your keys in the ign .#2 the valve cover that has the PCV if that fails on your valve cover that is a factory recall warranty. #3 is the water pump if it ever leaks on you due to a faulty seal it will be replaced regardless of miles or warranty. I've had my 13 RS for about ten years now I've had to replace the purge solenoid but that was a pretty cheap thing to replace an I did it in about 20 minutes before I went to work in the parking lot. I only have a very low 51,000 mi on my 13 RS but I have done the PCV intake manifold mod , the brass check valve instead of the rubber flapper that fails in the intake . They run the Chevy Sonic so hot at a constant 200/209°I did the Chevy volt thermostat swap so now in the middle of the summer I can be sitting in a Drive-Thru at 100° outside my engines running at 180 . Degrees , that will save your turbo a lot of the plastics under the hood and so many other things from premature we're not saying it will never fail but it would sure extend the life of that stuff under the hood running a 179 thermostat instead of a 220 yes that is the degree of the thermostat 210/220 . My plastic water inlet housing filled with in 20,000 MI I replaced it once with another factory one but it broke again so I use the zzp aluminum one this time so it'll never fail again. There's also companies out there that make a replacement for the plastic coolant reservoir so that it will never leak again my factory one went out so I just bought another factory one but next time I will use the aluminum one I think it's called Racer X who makes it. A lot of these mods will give you much more longevity with the Chevy Sonic I think a lot of people who have not done these mods of got so fed up with the Sonic that they either broke down in the ended up in the junkyard or they just traded him in where I live here I hardly see any of them. I'm just throwing all this stuff out there to help it came to my mind that some on here tried to reprogram their door locks and it didn't work. There's a UA-cam video out on the Chevy volt thermostats swap it's kind of hard to find but basically what you're doing is your taking the thermostat out of the Chevy volt housing and putting it into a your Chevy Sonic housing since they are different the Chevy volt thermostat is 179 the Chevy sonics is 220.
@@agstros only one that can do that is road side assistance or triple AAA. If it keeps doing it carry a spare key fob hidden somewhere a Chevy Sonic is the least wanted car to steal in America I don't think it will be a issue .
Mine does it randomly and its not a setting. Im pretty sure its a faulty door lock actuator. I sat at a valero the other day and watched my drivers door lock and unlock 4 times. But it started doing it when i replaced the fob. Serial numbers were diff but the dealer swore it would work. Any a ay that is why im not buying acuators. Still looking for the correct answer
Mine actually did the lock unlock thing when my key fob was washed in the machine . I bought a new one on Amazon and watched a you tube video to re program it could be low battery or faulty key fob .

I've reprogrammed it and the 2nd original one a few times trying to sus it out. Maybe it is the fob.. sometimes the car starts beeping like the alarm is set only it beeps a hair faster. Shouldn't ever see any engine issues with the mylink settings although low battery will cause locking and unlocking randomly as well as settings in the my link . Key fob is usually a press on the button to lock and then they suddenly unlock immediately and vs versa .

When your inside not when you shut the key off and get out and shut the door key off in ignition and it locks you out in the middle of the night in the rain in the snow or on a trip somewhere . The main reason is the door open with key in it's supposed to chime but 99 percent of sonic owners key chime doesn't work that was a factory recall call the dealer to verify I went to dealer they updated MyLink chime still doesn't work . Another problem alot of people have low batteries in there key fob and it starts acting up.and locking the door just happened to me recently even tho I bypassed the door lock feature changed battery all good .
I'm familiar with the setting I have it on, but my issue it locks the doors randomly all the time when opening the door even tho its already unlocked, then the anti lock out will unlock the drivers door😕 my PCV valve blew like a month before the recall. it was making one hell of a racket. Waaaay louder than a squealing serpentine belt
Sounds like it's the unit itself or ??? The key fob take the battery out when it's doing it see if it stops also I heard of the my link going out could even be the door switch itself as well .
There might be a part where it says save settings at the bottom to lock in the changes. The my link had a recall to update the unit if you have not done it call the local dealer ask them if you car is eligible to be updated free also keep in mind the other Factory recalls water pump seal leaks lifetime no mileage or year restrictions, valve cover PCV failure same no milage or years limits , key chime and my link update.
I guess there going to do the keychime recall? They did mine and it never did work it'll work very rarely on occasion if I have the door open and turn the key off but other than that the key time when I open the door doesn't work even after the recall was done.
Only time my 13 Sonic ever did that was when my key fob was bad I accidentally washed it in the washing machine , it did alot of other strange things as well check your battery or use your spare . I bought 1 from the dealer then I washed another key fob I bought the next one on Amazon and watched a you tube video on how to program it .
I know it's something that is very overlooked but you can buy a cheap key fob replacement from Amazon watch a UA-cam video and reprogram it yourself. Keep it as a hide a key somewhere or a clip on your belt.

They're supposed to lock while you're inside with the key in. It protects you from carjackers.

My 16 sonic has these options but they dont respond or change when i press them. It beeps but the setting doesnt change ?

Don't know about that one 🤔 I Hava the Rs model sp the sound is pretty good I didn't think about changing it out .
Mine locks rather the keys are in the ignition or not, soon as you open the door boom locked already
I would try that procedure going to the MyLink settings to the anti lockout .
I went to the dealer so they could tell me the need to leave it here for three days till we can get to it.
