👍 Nice review. Thank you. I miss the old Equip2Endure crew.
I bought one of the 10” duku My Parang from Blade HQ in 2024; it was still about $100, but did come with a heavy nylon sheath.
I like 90% of my parang, it is extremely well made and suits my needs exceptionally well.
The 5% I am not pleased about is that only about 6.5” of the 10” blade is sharpened. The portion at the handle end is very thick out about 3.5”.
Having said that, with some cautious work on a belt sander and with some hand files I was able to get the blade razor sharp to within an inch of the handle.
Now is a very useful tool and I am 100% pleased with it.

Its not made by Bidor, it is made by a factory in Bidor(a small town in Malaysia) which supplies the parang blades to myparang to put a wood handle on. Also in Malaysia the aborigines(orang asli) prefer rat tail tangs without a pin in the handle because it would be easier to fix in case the handle comes loose in the field which doesn't happen most of the time even with daily or hard use of the parang.

These ones are epoxied in place though, so unless they handle breaks they're unlikely to slip like some other parangs

great parangs. the ducu chandong feels and works better than any other parang I've tried. the full tang condors are not as well balanced, heavier, awkward, do not obsorb shock as well. these challenge the full tang necessity theory. the blade is so strong and handle so easily repaired. the plastic handled bidors do have a metal pin and can be put back on easily if coming loose. see junglecrafty youtube chanel for more info. I've never had a handle come loose myself

Bit of a misnomer as these are basically full tang it's just tapered.

Say Heah James Montana, I just got a modufied Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Parangatang. I bought it as a combo for tge Potbelly both knives impressed me so much especially for tge price and the steel Ka-Bar used on these two beauts. Both came out sharp, also tge black handles on the Ka-Bar Swabbie and the Zomstro are interchangable. Awesome especially they are made in tge U.S.A. at that price. and actually are easy to carry on person, I use the Parangatang as my Summer Long Knife and I can chop and baton with it. Tge Potbelly for a large knife, I can see myself using it as a 1knife carry option, especially when I pick my finger and thumb to do fine carving, again it's a big knife. I wasn't trying to contradict your video, but just a F.Y.I.

I will stick with my Golok and Village Parang from Condor Tool and Knife, both come with a nice leather sheath, and are full tang. But only made from 1075 high carbon steel. So you choose.

I treasure my Golok for green woodworking, shaping and such. My duku does about the same at cutting hardwood or bamboo, If I had just one it would be the Golok.

How am I supposed to see how well the blades work if you fast forward through the footage of you actually using them?

A fellow could get one with a plastic handle and no sheath then replace the handle with the one one would prefer and sheath it as one would like. Thanks for the info. Great video.

A good parang, you should try other types of machetes such as the Sumatra koduk, which is amazing

I have and use the Duku Parangs from My Parang in 10in. and 12in. and both are very good blades. Been trying to find the wood sheaths as used in Malaysia for them with no luck so far.

That guy is just one of the many blacksmith of the golok and parang and they r not really using traditional methods to make this parang and golok, its more of a commercialized version. U can still find a traditional blacksmiths in Malaysia and the quality of the blades, handles and sheaths are pretty much more quality wise.

For $100, that collar should not be loose. The problem there is the more time that goes by, the more it will keep working itself loose.
