When I was a kid I invited the neighbor kids over to listen to this album. They thought it was lame. I did what I could but there's no reasoning with some people.

Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler were never really known for making you cry... but this song is ABSOLUTE cry-core if you are in a fitting situation.

I lived in Colorado Springs....We both worked for Chrysler corporate and met at a one-week training event in Sacramento...4 nights of heaven in a hotel room on the company's dime---- on the last night, rented a car and drove to 'Frisco and spent the night on the beach close to the Golden Gate bridge...the "relationship" lasted another year despite the fact that we never met in person again... the long intimate phone calls kept our "love" alive... until they didn't.....this was "our song"...Good night, Chris Milburn wherever you are.

I distinctly remember my childhood babysitter playing Dire Straits while I was in the car. I wasn't into music for a long time and when I started exploring and found this band and I was like "Hey, I remember this!"

When I was in the military service (1986-1988) I've listened this song for 10 times per day. I was a close friend with the DJ of the barracks. We had a choice between the music from the only state radio station at the time where there were only news about the great achievements of communism and patriotic music, and some tapes brought by some of us. The choice was very simple and natural - the few tapes were listened and re-listened to dozens and hundreds of times. 😊

Mmm.. I was once on a journey in a foreign land.. and my girl was in a distant place on her own journey.. and I missed her so much.
At that time the riff from this song started playing in my head.. and it took some time before I found out that it was actually from this song, because I couldn't really remember ever hearing it before. That puzzled me, but also gave me the feeling that this song really embodies the emotions that the song is about.

I remember the time my crush sent this to me when i was moving to another country, never gets old.
Dire Straits were driving songs for me and my first love-in the 80's- Birmingham to Edinburgh and back on the M6. It was a long distance relationship for a while and I used to listen to to this and cry as I missed him so much. He and I didn't last......but the music did. I recently found out he had passed away far too young. This song will always remind me of him.
