Join us at Sterling Sound for the first MWTM series with distinguished mastering engineer Chris Gehringer! This comprehensive workshop covers a number of topics pertinent to modern mastering, including studio design, monitoring, analog vs. digital workflow, loudness, and much more. Chris shares his background and discusses the evolution of his workflow throughout the past decades, explaining why he eventually chose to work fully ‘in the box’. He compares and contrasts hybrid versus fully-digital workflow, providing a number of pros and cons to each from the perspectives of sonic character, reliability, and convenience. Further to insightful discussion, Gehringer demonstrates his approach and techniques on a number of highly successful projects by Lil Nas X, Dua Lipa, Lorde, Bleachers, and Machine Gun Kelly!

With immersive mixing becoming the norm, do you think mastering will fade into obscurity? There's no mix buss in Atmos.
I def see that happening I'm wondering how streaming platforms will adapt tho cuz the volume is usually lowered.
@@0utlawMusique Lowered from obscenely loud, but not a big deal.
I doubt it, because stereo will still be a listening option outside of Atmos which calls for mastering.

Really disappointed that he didn’t show a “badly” mixed song. 99,9% of projects will not be this easy to master.
The truth is a great mastering engineer isn't going to save a badly mixed song, that's not their role. What you're looking for is either stem mastering lessons, or full mixing engineers.

You can't imitate his sound without that expensive yellow ad converter. lol
He used one eq with like 2 bands and smashed it into one or two limiters. He’s all in the box now and isn’t doing anything crazy. It is sad to see that the industry and amount of work people expect of him has forced him to minimize his workflow.
@@connorm8008 Study ad converter. Famous mastering studios always use expensive high-end converters. It gives the track a fussy harmonic and makes a radio ready sound just by going through it. This video only shows his ITB part. Don't assume he's everything. They do not share their industry secrets cheaply.

A++ compressors,Eqs, and mics. I've been at this for sometime and the conclusion is abysmal.
I'd thumb up the video, but Ozone is clipping internally. We know you can do better.
hmm yeah, but does it really matter? Either way I still wouldn't do it, just out of seeming "wrong". I've also seen mixers push beyond 0 on the mix bus, they just turn it down, probably no difference to pulling down each of the track's faders, but it's still a "no no" in some eyes.
