- Father Momotaro suddenly became angry with mother Genki. There seems to be a foreshadowing to this. Gentaro was chasing after Father Momotaro to protect Mother Genki. Mother Genki was injured by a bite or scratch on the back of her hand.
Witnesses say that the foreshadowing of the fight may have involved an exchange between Genki and Kintaro. Only Momotaro and Genki know the truth.

Father MOMOTARO ♂(2000/7/3)
He is hesitant in new situations and is a loner.
His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.
He had already turned into a silverback by the time he was 10 years old.
He is struggling with unfamiliar child-rearing.
MOMOTARO's father is BIJU.
MOMOTARO's mother is MOMOKO.
Mother GENKI ♀ (1986/6/24)
She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAC.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.
Second son KINTARO ♂ (2018/12/19)
He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro makes everyone smile.
We can't wait to see what kind of gorilla he'll become!

Poor Genki. She's been through a lot lately. Living with 3 males ain't easy. The old girl is very tough but I fear her health is failing. Weight loss, tooth abscess, hair loss, the continuing knocks from the boys. For all of us who love Genki it's very tough to watch. I'm not embarrassed to say that I pray for her.

She really is such a sweetheart and having such a tough year. I do love how they all defend her though like today when there is an issue. I've watched other silverback families and they all go after the silverback to defend whomever he is antagonizing ! lol

This situation is not how a zoo should be allowed to house gorillas. Momo is not the greatest example of fatherhood. I realize it's not has fault due to his upbringing, but it's a sad situation all around.

@@theresapennetti3986 The visitors, they are laughing in the background, as they often are when something unusual happens! I think they don't understand what's happening and it looks like a funny chase to them!
I don't think they understand what is going on when they see things like this. Probably thought they were playing. A lot of people do not know how to read an animals body language. It's very easy to do, but i get upset as well when i hear someone laughing at a bad situation. Thank you for your post fellow animal lover!
@@theresapennetti3986 No animal especially primates should be living on concrete and steal. Its just wrong beyond anything. They should be in environments that mimic their natural habitats, Sadly this is not what they are provided. Truly breaks my heart. I've been watching a few chimp sanctuaries that were erected in the US and they have great habitats with natural grass and trees to run and play in. There should be NO concrete and steal beams. You can tell these primates are depressed and I don't blame them. These animals need A LOT of space for proper exercise, this place does not provide this or most of the asian zoo's. These animals should not be in captivity unless they cannot survive in the wild and NOT on concrete and steal. All of these places need shut down.
Yes! Same here. I also dislike the frightening names of the videos. I think it’s time for Hentaro to have his own home and family. There are three males, two of whom are fully-matured. The dynamic between mom and grown son is not working well. There will be a serious injury or worse. I hope the zoo recognizes this.

@@Gorilla-Life know that’s a silverback response but it’s obvious Momo is a very awkward gorilla. He doesn’t really know how to interact with his family. Don’t think it’s his fault what with his background but it’s sad for him because he does come across lonely. Genki is the backbone of the family she holds them all up including Momo, she has had it rough regarding her health an little Kintaro is really having some growing pains. Her hands are full lol

A situação de Genki é de dar tristeza.

Agree with you 100%.The enclosure is miserable. I feel Momotaro is seriously depressed - Gentaro needs to branch out and form his own troop (although I know these arrangements take time. Meanwhile, there is Genki and I am increasingly enraged about her treatment. I fear she will be euthanased by the Zoo rather than cared for. The world is watching Kyoto City Zoo very, very carefully and you had better pull your socks up pretty sharply!
I disagree. This troop is WAY more active than others. The climbing they do and enjoy every day. The area of the ground may be small but it is multiplied many times above ground
I have grown to love this family a lot. I wish that i was rich because i wouldve offered to buy and build them a huge enclosure with unlimited amounts of veggies, fruits, etc. Genki is such a sweetheart ❤🦍 Im sure this is typical Gorilla behavior
Me too. Zoos should only have animals that can't survive in their native homes. IMO. On the positive side of things, zoo life is better than lab life.

特に海外の方々からまたモモタロウへの批難が集中するのでしょうけど、群れの中の出来事を私たち人間が批難する資格はありません。冷静に見守ってほしいと強く思います。
ゴリラは、群れの中で多少のトラブルがあっても数時間後には何もなかったかのように平和な群れに戻れる素晴らしい動物。
その点人間の方が愚かで弱い生き物です。

Momo’s lack of a father really shows in some situations. That was not a reason to attack so harshly. Silverback’s will bite a little and shake a gorilla to reprimand. He just attacked. But I’m sure Genki is used to this so she is wary of Momo. Little Kinny was being knocked all over the place trying to get to dad. Gentaro looked noble with his lips pressed and chasing his dad.

こういう喧嘩はどの家族でもあるようなので、対策としては、シェルタールームを作ることです。何かあった時に逃げれる空間を用意する。 海外の動物園ではそういうルームが設置されてるそうです。
Momtaro did not need to bite her though regardless. Even if he thought Genki was being too rough or doing something to Kintora(which she wasn’t) he doesn’t have to bite. If he would have ran up to her she would have stopped. So annoying!

ゲンキは、キンタロウの仕掛けたいたずらに対応していただけなのですがね。モモタロウは群れの幼い子を守る、シルバーバックの仕事をしたのだけど、少し状況判断を間違えたかな😅ゲンキには災難でしたね。

ヒロミは腎臓の病気で亡くなったことはご存知ですよね。しかし、ゴンの暴力のせいで死んだと言う人がいます。根拠のない意見です。一般的にシルバーバックは食いしん坊です、台北のDJも家族の食べ物を取ってしまうし、もちろんモモタロウもゴンも😅 モモタロウもゴンも、妻をいじめる、DVをする暴力的な夫ではありません。人間とは違います。同時に人間よりも力が強い。事故が起こる可能性は０%ではないです😥私も心配です。しかし、ゲンキは賢く、周りをよく見ています。この動画でも、モモタロウが来る前に身構え、準備しているように見えます。彼女が食べ物のことでモモタロウを怒らせることは、ほとんどありません。彼はキンタロウを保護するための行動は素早いです。勘違いが多いのは困りますけど😅子ども達もママを守ってくれています。私が今一番心配しているのは彼女の健康です。返事が遅くなってごめんなさい。
Has Genki lost weight? It's been a while since I last watched this channel. I have noticed that their enclosure is better equipped with trees and foliage and piping. That is good to see. Little Gentaro is HUGE! What a beauty he is going to be. However, I never thought food loving Genki, would ever loose weight.😅

She's had some health issues which seem to have caused her to lose some weight, but the zookeepers are helping her get better though.
I wondered why Genki ran after Momotaro rather than away. I think she was making sure Kintaro was protected and also standing up for herself. I suspect that although she was hurt they all have so much strength the gorillas must be quite controlled with each other. It seems to be part of the order of the group.
Momo could easily kill any of them if he wanted to. That's why he runs away, to prevent further escalation, not because he's scared.

These vanimals deserve to live naturally in sanctuaries and not locked in zoos with little space and enrichment. They will be aggressive as they become more desperate and ill living in boxes

I've never seen Genki do a play face before, and watching her play with Kintaro was fun to watch until Momotaro attack her.

Kintaro caused that. He was messing with Genki, and when she chastised him and fought back Momo intervened to protect Kintaro. It's what silverbacks are programmed to do, protect the youngest.

Genki is too old and frail to be attacked too many men times-if it’s not her grown son, it’s Momo going after her. Look at how skinny her legs are… she has had such a hard life fraught with pain and sadness-she deserves to live out the remaining of her years in peace and safety. I think Gentaro being moved to a more suitable home where he has the opportunity to mate with his own female and grow a family, is what needs to happen and soon.

I've noticed in gorilla troops that whenever the male silverback disciplines someone in the family the rest of the family immediately jumps in against the silverback and they usually end up chasing him off. It's another unusual aspect of gorilla behavior that i find fascinating and puzzling. The silverback is the largest, strongest member of the group and the only one armed with a gorilla's most effective weapons, which are their canines, yet the smaller, weaker family members don't think twice about going straight at the silverback, and the physically superior silverback usually responds by retreating and making an escape. I wonder if this is how gorilla families keep power within the group in balance -- if the family did not immediately stand up to the silverback when he bullies a member, then it's likely that the silverback would become too despotic and too authoritarian but the rest of the troop keeps him in check.

Gentaro has been violently attacking his mother Genki because he sees his father Momotaro attacking her. The day after each attack we are told that the attack and/or bite wasn't that bad. These boys are learning that it is ok to attack females. Gentaro has inherited Momotaro's good looks & his temper. But there is still hope that the intelligent, independent, compassionate Kentaro will be a good husband & father.
