JAYKEEOUT : How Fluent Are Koreans in English? (ft. Cambly)
I think making a foreign friend is the best way to learn a new language. But in reality, meeting foreigners isn’t that easy. Luckily, the internet is provided so well these days so you can use applications like Cambly to interact with different cultures and people easily. By using apps like Cambly, you can easily learn English and feel like you are enjoying it, not like studying it. Cambly connects you and the tutor in real time and allows you to video chat/study or become friends with them which I think is very helpful in learning a new language. It also records the video call so you can use it to study as well.

JAYKEEOUT YOUR BACK!!
안녕 형.
JAYKEEOUT I have the same problem finding a korean friend to learn Korean Language ....
Living for Suga's SWAG u can use hellotalk
Love you Jay, muah....
The person who talked to the female tutor is actually pretty good and English isn't even my first language. He gave himself a 3??? Get some confidence buddy, you truly are fantastic in English :)
Also Jay, as always your video was interesting, informative and entertaining as well so keep up the good work ^^
🇩🇪
I know right! I was really impressed, both guests were actually good
Tagträumerin RIGHT! He was really good

“I hate economics. It’s boring and useless.” PREACH IT MAN
books out for hoseok Ik right lol 😂
I HATE ECON TOO:((
books out for hoseok as a fellow economics student i feel him
What! No, not really. I love ECONOMICS tho.
lol I could never agree more
Both of them turned out to be quite good..I'm shocked..
laramiaizz The one with the woman tutor was so fast too. And his sentence structure was almost perfect. Like, how can you respond so amazingly.
Myriam Nichols ikr and he rated himself 3 out of 10 for his skill????
They're just shy.
@@kbssunflower haha 3 for shyness 🤣
I think the guy in a black shirt should’ve rated himself more than a three out of ten!
kindaoddmilla he deserved 7.5 out of ten. a little bit more conversation he'll be expert in no time...
I think they're comparing the scale to accent and non-basic words, so I see nothing wrong with their rating and ofc their English will get better.
tbh his accent isn't that bad already, he doesn't add unnecessary vowels like most koreans do at the end. i think he deserved a 6.5-7 at least honestly
I'm half Korean and half French and I've noticed Koreans will say they are bad at English and actually be decent, whereas French people will say they speak English fluently and they're worse than the Koreans who say they are bad at English. I love both cultures, but to me the difference is very interesting. I think Korean culture's high Confucian value on humility may impact why so many Koreans say they don't speak English
The man wearing black shirt is pretty good in English, but it's so humble of him to rate himself a 3. He should've rated himself more than that. 😊
If this is them not really studying, what am i doing?😭
Right! I'd like to know too! I have always tried not trying too but it just doesn't happen either.
Learning a different language is always hard but its also fun once you get started. Don't worry if you make a mistake, its best to learn from those small mistakes then not trying to learn it at all hehe
Yelskies please subscribe to my channel☺
Yelskies
It's not hard for me. Since our country mandatorily wants students at school studying two languages. It isn't really hard but easy
+Lio Bu I envy you.
chogi broke
Lol
I don't think you have to be 100% good at English just to speak it. We English speakers aren't always 100% correct and there are so many words we don't even use or know. I can understand a lot of broken English because I grew with kids and people not having English as their first language.
Tigerous I agree, I am 28 but sometimes i still question if I am using an english word in the right context
Yes, I agree..fluency =/= accuracy..
Tigerous same, I’m American and I live in an urban area and I deal with people from at least 12 different nationalities/counties/accents every day. I’m so used to it, someone trying to speak broken English to me is never annoying. We can always work with it and figure out what you’re saying
totally especially because my family speaks broken english due to them being colombian. and i fully understand , especially since we use a lot of face expression and hand movements so that makes it even easier to understand
Yeah true I’ve lived in America my whole life, but people from different places in America speak differently. Also people in Britain sometimes use different words for the same word as an American. If anything fluency depends on where you are from. I live in Texas and I say y’all, but some would say you guys instead. I think my English is pretty good and I’m one of those people who make a bit fewer mistakes every once in a while though I say me and you instead of you and I or me and them instead of them and I, I usually notice my mistakes right away and fix them. I write everyday so everyday I make less and less grammar mistakes. On a bad week I mess up maybe once or twice.
Be confident, dont be shy to speak english language even the grammar is wrong. Practice makes you better. Reading, listening english it helps you improves on your english skill. Again dont be shy to communicate using English language.
excellent
i like your effort!
clxh. Your welcome ,have a nice day :)
I'm surprised at how the guy who rated himself a 3 actually has a great accent, great vocab, pronunciation, and grammar woah
I think I fell for the guy in the cap. His voice is so low and seductive 😍
fizzytizzy me 2
fizzytizzy petition for him to start a asmr youtube channel 😍
fizzytizzy I like the other guy
Finally😂😂😍❤
Ahhhh same
“What are you studying at university?” “Economics.” “Are you enjoying it?” “No, I hate economics. It’s boring and useless.” LMFAO 🤣
ua-cam.com/video/GdK6Y7iIa5E/v-deo.html check us out!! think you will like it Jade! :) show the love haha
Both of the Korean dudes are good in English. They just need more exposure and speak more English.
ua-cam.com/video/GdK6Y7iIa5E/v-deo.html check us out!! think you will like it Michelle!! :) show the love haha
They rated themselves fairly low, their English skills were pretty damn great!
I’m fluent in English but I have times when my English is weird and sometimes my accent comes out 😂
Didn’t really surprise me that they spoke English better than expected and rated themselves poorly... I’ve heard a lot of Koreans severely doubt their English skills and try to avoid speaking it because they’re not confident in it. But they’re really good and I wish they wouldn’t doubt themselves so much! ❤️
I loved the korean subtitles because i am learning korean and its really good to read the grammar in real life conversations. Great video, its good to see other people learning new languages.
Hey! I just had a student tell me that he recognised me from this video! Glad to see you getting the message out there about how awesome Korean people are at English and that confidence is the biggest hurdle! Hoping to visit Korea soon (maybe before Christmas).. would be cool to meet up if you have some free time. Emma
Their English skills are so much better than they say they are. Sure, they need practice but they are pretty good. Most Koreans I have encountered in Seoul say they don't speak good English, but it ends up being pretty good and far better than they let on. The differences are mostly cultural, they don't understand our idioms and sayings, but that's to be expected. Only living within an English culture will make you learn those.
I want to learn Korean so bad, but i don't have any korean friends 😭😭😭
Sad life....
I want to learn too but just like you I don't have Korean friends.
Jerwin Pagela dont worry :) you can make korean friends right here right now
Yehey..
Are you Korean?
ok so hellotalk is an app where people make friends and exchange languages or teach for free and its not a dating app and sometime people create fake accounts so don't be tricked :) okie have fun! if you wanna add me my name is chaneyol
Wow the guy with the cap was really good. If he rated himself a 3 then I must be a 0.3 in any language i’ve ever attempted🤦♀️ Super impressed with him XD
sAME.
We have the same in Spain!! People think that they are bad even another countries but when we are confident we speak really well English
까만모자 쓰신분은 발음도 그렇고 표현도 그렇고 영어를 엄청 열심히 공부하셨가나 외국 경험이 있는것처럼 들리네용
The third guy did so much better! He gave himself a 3 out of 10 when he really is a 7/8. He conversed quite smoothly, understood a lot, conversed without repeating a word multiple times and surprisingly knew how to express himself.
Have more confidence in yourself, boy! You're doing extremely well for some one who hasn't lived abroad :)
I hate Economics too buddy
I feel you
두분 다 영어 잘하시는것같은데...!!!멋있어용
I really need to learn another language 😭 sometimes I wish English wasn’t my first language
ua-cam.com/video/GdK6Y7iIa5E/v-deo.html check us out!! think you will like it !! :) show the love haha
Sadjida Carter
Then you couldn't communicate internationally. Be thankful for that.
that is very true and I am super thankful that I can communicate with people from across the world whether that is in the UK or if I travel! It is a blessing and a curse! I feel if I grew up in another country I would've learnt English anyway
Let's switch! You talk german and I will be super fluent in English :D
I feel about you !! . Thank god , I am not Native English speaker . But fuck god so , because I am Arabic Native speaker hhhhhhhh
I am really impressed how both these guys were able to communicate.
wtf cap dude said 3 ? boiii have some confidence you are great , the other one too ofc😊
Subscribed. I am American and found this video extremely interesting. I'm actively learning Korean, and I know sometimes it's easy not to have confidence, and I also know that it is easier if you speak with someone in the language you are learning (casual conversation). Thank you for doing this study. It was very insightful.
Who's want this application in korean version??? I want to learn korean more..
kim saptx - I believe HelloTalk has a video call function. You just have to find a Korean user on there who will chat with you.
Ashley thank you
Ashley hellotalk is just full koreaboos and koreans that want to meet westerners, no one actually helps with korean.
n agree
Their English was better than mine. And it's my only language
tatyana killz preach
I just tried out Cambly and even though I was so nervous that I'm still shaking a bit, it was really nice! The tutor was sooo kind and supportive and her advice was great. I doubt I'll be using it again bc ngl I speak English better than my mother tongue, but I'll definitely recommend it to anyone who's learning English regardless of level 😊
I really need this kind of app for learning koreann ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
I recommend "hello native" to you.
sooyeolie HelloTalk is a good app
You can try eggbun. It's very helpful. It teach us in a very fun way. Like we are chatting with the cute tutor.
Thankyou guyss ^^ but I actually want to practice my speaking skills so I am hoping for something like this app ㅋㅋㅋ to talk with the natives speaker verbally
Ironically, as a foreigner living in Korea, I personally find it hard to make friends with Koreans because of their fear of English. But whenever I do make friends with someone they actually speak English a lot better than they think, just like both of the guests here. I definitely agree that making friends is the best practice! It's definitely been the best way to improve my Korean^^ If I met them I would totally offer to be their friend haha
I'll rate both of them 7/10. They can communicate well. Good job guys ❤
An amazing video as always Jay ! This Cambly app seems really great. I just wanted to ask if you have any recommendations of similar apps like it, but for learning Korean rather. I speak English fluently and am super keen to start learning Korean face to face like Cambly does for English.
Thanks for reading this if you did 😊
There's a site that's called italki that function in the same way, they offer tutors for a variety of languages (korean is one of them) and it has been really helpful to me (:
Try Duolingo for a beginner level
you can watch some video from seemile.. they teach about korea.. like hangul.. pronounciation.. grammar.. i think you can start by learning at their video..
These people are actually really good at English!
Totally agree, it is all about confidence and practice. I was exchange student in 대구 last year and my university got a program to be language partner with korean students, it was a great experience and it allowed me to meet korean friends, which I found it kind of hard, what I realize is that they know a lot about the language, maybe even more than me (as I am not a native speaker) but they were afraid to speak. As for me learning korean, I took a class, but I was no able to practice as much as I wanted, so I regret not making many korean friends. Btw, I really enjoy your videos. 😊
the most important is that they can understand English and talk it~specially the black cap one he's so good!love his tutor too she's lovely and talk clearly~♡~
They are both so good at speaking English!
You don't need to go to America, Australia,Canada etc. You can go to the Philippines in a low price and all the people living in there can speak english whether the person is a baby, toddler, adult, etc.
Hehe. Proud Filipina here!
Peachy Mickey IKR! I've been there once to Palawan, and was really surprised seeing 3rd grade students of primary school who even can speak english better than me 😂
I am learning english for like more than 12 years and still suck haha
Lol, im 12 yrs old and my brother is 4yrs old. We can both speak english fluently.
Just try to speak english all the time and you'll learn
Peachy Mickey Its quite hard to find friend who is willing and able to speak english here in Indonesia 😂 Fortunately I had several friends whom I can practice english with, so I am quite lucky
True...
Because of these reasons..
1. Philippines have two official languages--English and Filipino(Tagalog)
2.Filipino parents/guardians started to teach English since 12 months old.
Example: "Look, oh! May stars up sa sky"(Look! There are stars up in the sky.)
"Don't touch, baby..Magka-dirty ang iyong hands..No no no"(Don't touch,baby..It might get your hands dirty..No no no)
3. In schools both public and private, when the subjects are in English (Science,Math,English, Values, etc..), you are not allowed to speak languages other than English..
Some schools imposed penalties on "English time only" for those who speak languages inappropriate to the subjects.
4. Most forms and documents are written in English.
5. Signboards and signages or posters are mostly in English so even a simple common Filipino can understand.
6. Filipinos believe that the English language is the doorway to other cultures and to other languages.
Seriously, I'm studying Korean and I would have struggled much more with these conversations in Korean. I'm impressed with their skill level. This was a great video :)
I worked as an English teacher in Japan for a year and my students gained so much more confidence in their English while chatting with me at lunch, then during lessons.
at 2:50 when he says "I'm from South Korea, not north" :D :D
Hii Jay..Nikma from Indonesia thanks for make this video its helpful and thanks for the free code as well 😄
Finally back with a new video, yay!!!
They're so good at listening and holding conversation in english wow! Very impressive
Im on doing a research for my last assignment in collage. And i think cambly is the best best way to learn english.. thankyou jaykeeout for uplouded this video 👍🏻
Both of their English was really good!! Obviously there's room for improvement with pronunciation and grammar. But overall I was really impressed with their fluidity and vocabulary.
THANKS THIS IS SO HELPFULL,SPREAD LOVE FROM INDONESIA
theyre really good :) I really love watching people converse in other languages that isnt their native tongue !
They are like 7 or 8 out of 10 for their conversational english! Its impressive when its not even his first language
The guy wearing the cap is so cute 😍 he seemed so shy at first but then started to get more comfortable with the tutor and surprised us all with his English skills !
나도 영어 잘하는 친구 있었으면 좋겠다ㅠㅠㅠ 서로 배울 친구 있으면 참 좋을듯.. 영어 늘고 싶다!!!
+ 영상 자주 올려주세요~~!!
For a 3 and 4 there english is fantastic. They could have alot of small talk and probably a little more. Yall making me want to use the app and teach people English I've always wanted to do that.
The guy with the black hat spoke really well! I’m so shocked he gave himself a 3, it was actually amazing especially knowing the fact that he has never lived outside of Korea!
Confident is the first step to success. 와이팅 아린 ❤
What an awesome video! You are 100% right.....learning a new language involves comfort, learning at your own pace, and confidence. I gave this video a thumbs up 😃👍
Before when i was a kid, i thought english is hard but after learning other languages i realize english is a very simple language
As someone who is currently living in Korea, I run into this very frequently. Koreans (including my students) will apologize to me because "My English is not very good." Yet I can have a full conversation with them. Confidence and practice are key. Don't be afraid to make a mistake. Practice makes perfect! 화이팅!
They both deserve an 8/10 rating.
Thanks for sharing your code! I'd love to test my Spanish skills a time or two. Thanks for introducing this app. Also your friends English was great :)
Ugh, my feels. This is just what I needed.
YEEEEESSSS FINALLLYY! been waiting for one of your new videos. :)
thumbs up for this video, I hope a lot of people will get some confidence in their english after watching this video 👍🏼❤️
They make really good conversation weather it’s not very good English or not great jobs! ❤️
It’s very true that Koreans think very lowly of their English. I’m always trying to cheer on my korean friends because how good they are is really fantastic.
The guy in cap is really attractive. The first time I saw him, I'm not that interested in him but when he starts to speak English, he's really attractive. He's good at English and even his pronunciation is good. He seems very smart and humble, that's what makes him looks attractive.
Both of them have pretty good listening comprehension. They just have to be more confident when they speak and perhaps neutralize their accent.
keep the good work jay! been waiting for a new video quite some time 😌
I was seriously shook with their good skills! If that was bad english, I can't imagine mine
They guy with the cap was REALLY good
The video was amazing! And now I have a new app. I study English and Korean but I don’t have a lot of confidence to talk with foreigners... thank you!!!
Finallyyyy, a sponsored video that i think is very useful and got me installing the app..
Thank you so much jay!! For answering my questions for long time!!!!!!!
This is how I feel about learning Spanish for two years!!! 😂😂 it's not the conversational Spanish but it's those hard words where no one uses so I only study Spanish just to pass the test and only learned the basics!
sigue intentándolo llegarás allí!!!!👍🏼
Their English is so good!!! I want to use this app to help others learn English :) thanks for this video!
this channel gave a lot of useful information..thank u so much..
Great content Jaykee hope you keep it up and help more Koreans improve their English and boost thetheir it confidence in speaking it
7:48 it's hurdle not huddle
They both are great at speaking in English, wish I had someone to talk to so I could learn Korean easier. And I'm sorry, I can't help it but the one in the black cap and the female tutor is so handsome!
They are both good at English. I wish I could find a Korean tutor as I am currently only relying on UA-cam ideos and Living Language.
oh I think I need this app for improving my english gonna download it soon soo exited !!!
Most young generations now in S. Korea can communicate in English. I noticed that when we went to Korea and we have to ask directions because we don't have tour guide, we went by our own and they are very accommodating too. When we went to the store where you can hire traditional dress, the guy can even speak some Tagalog words because he has many Filipino costumers.
It is so good to see I could survive in Korea with using english! Since I found out my grandpa lives in Korea I want to travel there...and Korean is so hard to learn!
The one who is wearing a cap is actually good in English! He can communicate well.
The guy with a cap, his English is really good! He doesn't have nearly as much Korean accent in his pronunciation as some other Koreans... it's easy to understand
I missed this channel! So glad you made another video!
I am from Malaysia and i really enjoy all of ur videos..
Yeah I think confidence is most important for learning a new language!!!
The one with the cap is soooo cute and his English is very good 😭😭😭❤❤.
영상 보고 캠블리 깔아서 Malco 선생님이랑 1:1 채팅 25분정도 했습니다 :) 프로모션 코드 감사드립니다 ㅋㅋ외국인이랑 떠드는건 역시 재미짐 ㅎ
i really loved your video (as always) and yes learning a language is a way to learn a culture , i love learning languages , i speak Arabic, French and English , and a little bit of Spanish and now i'm learning Korean ^_^
이번 영상 정말 유용하네요!!!꼭 캠블리 사용해보겠습니다
I just wanna say THEY’RE PRETTY ADORABLE LIKE how they communicate and how they think lowly of themselves 😭 Im just like... NOOOOO DON’T RATE YOURSELF THAT WAY YOU’RE DOING VERY GOOD FAM ❤️
Wow! Thanks Jay! Can't wait to try cambly too!
This app absolutely usefull😄! ! Thank you for making this video.
