I was greatly impressed by the depth of your analysis and the clarity of expression you bring out in those videos. I warmly appreciate and heartily congratulate you for the splendid work that you are doing. In your video on Rajya Sabha elections, I have just one point seeking clarification. I could easily comprehend the fact that the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated and all their votes are further appropriated to the other candidates as per the second preference. But in the case of a candidate having surplus votes, how is the surplus further appropriated? For example, if a candidate requires 40 votes and gets 44 votes, there are 4 surplus votes. But out of these 44, which four are deemed as the surplus so that their second preference votes shall be taken? Hope my question is clear.
I think that 44 votes will be from members of a single party and they will have already decided whom to give second preference and all of their second preference would be same .each party has an agent too so it adds up that member cant change his preferences party has adviced....On a special note in most of the cases elections dont happen to rajya sabha...they calculate how many quota can a party fill and if they can only fill one quota they will only contest one candidate..

Well explained, but I think there is no concept of transferring extra votes in the first round (since there is an ambiguity to find which 4 out of 40). I believe instead all the second preferences for the qualified are transferred, then starts the elimination from second round.

Only recently, I had the opportunity to go through one of your videos and subsequently watched quite a few of them. I was greatly impressed by the depth of your analysis and the clarity of expression you bring out in those videos. I warmly appreciate and heartily congratulate you for the splendid work that you are doing.
In your video on Rajya Sabha elections, I have just one point seeking clarification. I could easily comprehend the fact that the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated and all their votes are further appropriated to the other candidates as per the second preference. But in the case of a candidate having surplus votes, how is the surplus further appropriated? For example, if a candidate requires 40 votes and gets 44 votes, there are 4 surplus votes. But out of these 44, which four are deemed as the surplus so that their second preference votes shall be taken?
Hope my question is clear.
I think that 44 votes will be from members of a single party and they will have already decided whom to give second preference and all of their second preference would be same .each party has an agent too so it adds up that member cant change his preferences party has adviced....On a special note in most of the cases elections dont happen to rajya sabha...they calculate how many quota can a party fill and if they can only fill one quota they will only contest one candidate..

Well explained, but I think there is no concept of transferring extra votes in the first round (since there is an ambiguity to find which 4 out of 40). I believe instead all the second preferences for the qualified are transferred, then starts the elimination from second round.
All second preference cannot be transferred, at a time total vote cannot increase more than 140 in kerala.
