Oh dang, that sucks. I found it to be a lot more usable on my iPhone 11, Poco F1, X3 and my really old Galaxy J5 from god knows how long ago. Have you tried updating it again? If on Android, trying a client mod like Vendetta?
Same. That and the god awful search. I search for messages made by a certain user and it gives me zero results despite their messages being right there and easily visible. I don't know how someone even screws up a search function this bad.
tbh I think the new UI is a bit sharper, but I still can't get over the fact that they made swiping right to see server members/searching unnecessarily complicated, I think if they just put it back to swipe right a lot of people would be happy

The new update disappointed me (in my opinion). 1. It made my phone much, much slower, it takes like 10 seconds to open the servers list or go back to DMs. 2. Now you can't see if the person is your friend or they are offline, and you have to click instead every time. 3. You can't open the server members list by swipping on the screen anymore, and instead, you have to click up there to open it. 4. Pinned messages are unclear now. You can't see who sent the message, and instead of showing the video, it just shows there's a video, making it harder to find whatever you're looking for. 5. Made it harder to access everything + slowed down my phone. 6. Now we can't see the group's owner. 7. Write your opinion below my message
my discord bugging when i open my discord its just blackscreen i wait for 5 minutes nothing happen and then i try to reopen the discord again its working, like wtf i must do this everytime opening discord on my phone?. literally the worst app in market tbh
8. there is now a disconnect between the PC/web and mobile versions of discord because DMs have their own tab on mobile 9. accessing settings to scan QR codes or change authorised apps is very time consuming as you have to go through the "you" tab
As a mobile discord user, itwon't load my messages I sent and is only when I resend the message, it takes sometime for one single message It just slow down my phone by alot and the old UI was smoother and simplier
the new discord UI is not only ugly to me, but a genuinely stupid choice discord is becoming one of those apps that makes everything so simple (not really simple, more complicated if anything) which to the users is very problematic i know discord likely won't do this, but it's a better idea to change the UI back to the one we're all used to so they won't have to deal with people leaking emails or any other issue, because keeping this new UI will just make people angrier and angrier until they do something absolutely outrageous. that's what I believe, at least
The old UI was gentler on the eyes, and I have to close and open the app a lot of times just to allow another server to load after opening another, and sometimes it's like that too within one server
I felt this as well. Also They changed Search Feature for mobile, that it will look for your messages in that certain channel instead of all-in-one. They also removed "In:" in the search for mobile.
The new UI isn't even *close* to being as useful as the old mobile layout, I'm not gonna repeat my specific issues with the UI from last comment but rather point out the fact that the only *actually* new thing about the UI is actually themes. The grouping of servers and DM's is them just moving where things are, but they removed things like the number of unread messages from specific DM's, so I'm just going to stay on the old version of the app until they get to atleast parity. Right now the desktop client is getting things like these new notification settings that I actually really like, but the mobile app is regrssing, which I find very confusing, why wouldn't they just make the client the same, it would save time and money and it's what people are used to after all.

Even if the email were to somehow turn out to be real, banning people for outdated clients would be downright moronic even for discord. My phone is so old that it literally CANNOT update the app. Play store tells me that the app is not supported on my device. So even if I wanted to update to that garbage UI, I'm not being allowed to. Just imagine getting banned because you can't afford a new phone that can run all the bloated useless junk they keep adding to the app lol

if you had the vencord theme where it changes the default emojis to another brand (apple, microsoft, ect.) the new icon update tries to use both emoji spritesheets for the icon in the bar and it is just cursed
I feel there were a lot of improvements with the update, but also a lot of things getting worse. I do like they added a "midnight" theme for pure black background, works great for OLED screens.
The new theme is alright, but removing the old grey one has negatively impacted a lot of users with visual accessibility concerns, notably those with astigmatism, as the new colour makes it much more difficult to read text. The grey theme should, at the very least, be an optional dark theme.
For developers with slash commands (that want to support multiple languages), you probably already know this from elsewhere but, the locale for LATAM Spanish is es-419, yeah, I don't really know why, but it's not yet in the locales documentation (which definitely means it's going to be change) so if you want to try it now out I'm leaving it here
The main problem I have with the new discord update aside from where they inconveniently put the people server list is the removal of the top banner showing my connection status whenever I try to join a voice channel and the “MiniPlayer” box still being there even when no one has share screen or camera on.
there is actually more fun stuff. discord has client mod detector code inside which is only there to prevent mod crash logs from being sent to discord. some time ago they created github issues on a good chunk of client mods pointing out their security vulnerabilities and helping fix them
I downgraded to 126.21, my life is awesome now. None of the annoying bugs I've just been having to deal with for the last year that they never fixed, and the only things you lose are like 1 or 2 useful but very minor features, like the ability to copy message links.
That update is seriously slow and severely underperforms. My neurodivergent friends (the ones with actual diagnosis) stopped using it and moved to Telegram because they could not stand the update
I hate to be a contrarian ntts but I genuinely think these new emojis look disgusting. Like my life is genuinely ruined because the default emojis in a chat platform changed to be more friendly. While it is true that other chat platforms have better (and worse) emojis. I'm still going to rant, scream, and berate discord staff for this minor change that doesn't impact my life.

Nothing can beat those glassy old 3D style emojis they got rid of ages ago. I think discourse forums used to use these back in 2018. Notifications change is nice. Mobile UI is a terrible mess, but its possible to bypass via the ✨ emoji trick using a v205 client. That keeps the old UI even after the update (though you still see a glance of hell whenever the app starts up).
I could get used to the new UI. It's different, but not that bad. The problem is that it's so buggy, glitchy and untested sometimes when i open an image and go back, it just doesn't show the new messages and doesn't let me send any Sometimes it just randomly doesn't appear that it sent my message when it actually did And sometimes when i send a message, the message i just sent just remains in the chat box and i have to manually delete that message and write my new one. All of these are fixed by fully closing the app and reopening it.

The new UI feels mostly the same to me, except for the fact that the search function is a lot worse now, the results are no longer put into pages (so you'd have to scroll through potentially thousands of messages if you're looking for old messages), and opening the member's list is more inconvenient. Other than that, I like the side panel and the swipe to reply feature, I think they're going in the right direction with this. I prefer the old experimental one better, the one with the channels laid out at the bottom of your screen. It was a bit weird to use at first but once I got accustomed to it, it felt really nice to use
I hate the swipe to reply so much. I will never use it on purpose. I will always hold down then click reply. I want to swipe to see the server members. Nothing else
Yeah, I am not a fan of the new update. It makes things clumsier to navigate, it's hard to search through messages in a server, and things seem to be really slow so that it often fails to load messages on switching channels and just shows the messages from the previous channel on the new one (while still marking the new channel as read).
i think the new emojis should be separate from the old, displayed like server emojis. i don't like a new emoji, but some people do, and i feel like keeping the old and putting the new in a separate category would keep pretty much everyone happy
Discord has been batting a thousand at pumping out the most unnecessary, soulless, invasive and backwards updates imaginable. Discord had a unique identity and streamlined style that they've thrown away for the sake of trying to capture the themes of other social media platforms. I don't get to see the right-swipe side dash anymore that shows off all the members of my server and their roles and colors. They're literally just dialing back the quality of life.
The only thing I like about the new mobile update is to be able to search by media in DMs which makes looking for images a lot simpler without needing to remember a specific date or message tied to it. However I think they could have just added that alone without the new UI. It could just be that I am not used to it, but the UI change just makes things so much more annoying to navigate.
thing is, it was also possible with the old ui, you just had to write 'has: images' or 'before: [insert date]' etc etc before the search,, it's just a little easier with the new ui so
Yeah, why have the dms in a different tab? It makes it feel less important. And hidden away. PLUS when you click on the @ thing that makes you automatically scroll down to whatever server you’re pinged in, it’s one server too far down. Like, how could they overlook something like that

Probably the most baffling part of the UI update is the fact that they have TWO SEARCHS. And the fact that discord is so incompetent that they can't use universal standard icons anymore. Member tab now has a search function but instead of it being a member button to make sure the user knows its for member related stuff it has a search icon, this new search tab that shows members and media CAN'T search for specific messages and has incomplete sets of filters and is very confusing on how to use. Then there's the search bar on the channel section which is the traditional search, but they can't even do that competently either. In both versions they used an icon very reminiscent of a "settings" icon instead of having the universel funnel icon for filters making it really weird unintuitive Then to wrap this entire shitstain of a feature up, while searches are much faster it now counts linked media as text and no longer gives u preview of the media when u search for messages... Like bugginess aside ive been fine with it but the changes above i found today and irked me to hell and back

But CLDR has it pre-determined if it's 12 hours or 24 hours in the locale itself. The program simply requests the format for time, and it will supply the format for 12 hours (with 'h' and 'a') or the format for 24 hours (with 'H'). To allow you to switch, you would then manually have to override the format and that could lead to a whole mess. But for French, which is currently FR, they could add more options as well. Compare: FR: 01/12/2023 13:00 CA: 2023-12-01 13 h 00 DZ: 01/12/2023 1:00 PM (1 Dec 2023) I picked out DZ (Algeria) since it's the most populated region of Africa using 12 hours in French. But best I still argue would be to just have a plain list of languages without regions, and then after selecting language, you select region. The selection of region will determine the date and time formats, if you get DMY, MDY, YMD and 12, 24 hours. I think this would be really good. It will also change the spelling of months: de-DE: Januar (Jan.), de-AT: Jänner (Jän.) es-ES: septiembre (sept), es-PE: setiembre (set.)

But that's also why I do think it's important to include AU, because it's DMY with 12 hours.

I still have old ui on both of my phones, once when i was having internet issues and loading into discord was taking some time, i got the new ui (while my account still wasnt loaded in fully) just for it to then change back to the old one
I hate the new UI. I thought it would only be a few people since I only got a few problems with it. Mainly, the fact that they have limited the search function to the specific channel you are in, which is so annoying, because I'm using the search function sometimes and I need it. Only reason I haven't updated my phone's Discord app is due to all the hate I've heard about it. (including a friend saying it's even lagged A LOT on their end, making the app pretty much unusable) It's funny cause I updated the app a week before this went live too. And considering I have an iPhone and Apple makes it impossible to revert to earlier versions, unless you jailbreak lol... or maybe there is a sideloaded version of Discord that uses the old mobile version (I use a sideloaded Twitter and UA-cam app, yes it's still the Twitter icon and everything lol) then you just "gotta deal with it" unlike Android users that *can* search for the apk file online and get an older version back on their phone. Have for years kept my apps as "manual download updates only" and this is a good reason why. (sure, a lot of my apps may be outdated due to some constantly needing to be updated (have had over 120 apps needing updated lol...) but I turn notifs off on the app store anyways cause it'd always bug me to update apps I don't want to update anyways so...)
Honestly, as a discord phone user, the update’s not too bad. Voice chat was tough to use before, and now it’s okay. But, yeah, the update’s decent except the messages tab and the swipe for reply thing aren’t great.
A lot of people are talking about how we're complaining because of "how we're used to the old layout" but that's just not true. The app came with a lot of bugs as many have mentioned, and I have yet to see any of them being fixed even months later. Another thing is that the features don't really make any sense. They changed the colors of the app entirely, which I can adjust to, but for some people it's harder on their eyes and a pain to look at. Especially with video calling, the new colors are just a weird transition to when you're used to looking at a dark gray color. And then there's swipe to reply. The swiping to reply feature might be easier, but switching to the member tabs shouldn't have to be a completely new tab. There's already the ability to hold down on a message to bring up the reply, edit, thread, etc. features, so why get rid of an entire tab and then quickly go back to the chat, so that you could take one feature from the hold menu and replace it. This is the equivalent of having to open a completely new window on pc just to see who is online and what their status is. Not ideal right? I would say that I like some of the new changes, but if the bugs and the two changes I mentioned above are to be reverted, then I think that the app would be good again.
I HATE the new ui, I had to remake my whole clearvision theme to get the old stuff back but if they change the emotes, its done, they can say bye, I might become one of those people who try to destroy them...
While i typically am on NTTS side usually, taking the Discord reps word without scrutinizing it further is an L move. Especially since we have reached that point where many companies, discord included ,are doing a lot of scummy things and aren't afraid to lie or do something worst. I feel this is the first NTTS L, but i guess that is the best he is gonna give you. I am not gonna take that email as fact or fiction until i get something more legitimate.
swipe to reply is wrong on all levels for 2 reasons. I never reply to messages, I often check servers to see who is online and what games they are playing. so they moved a feature that I often use to a shitty spot ( buttons on the tops of big phones are practically un pressable.) to make it easier to do something I never do.
4:15 How do they decide what is "frequent" and what is "not frequent"? What if I have servers that I absolutely want messages from, but they are not frequent simply because not much is going on there, while some other that I check out more frequently and irrelevant for me? ;-(
i am living with discord 126.21 (which is the last version of discord built with kotlin) because my phone cannot run the latest version of discord because it needs android 7 while i have android 6. i don't care much because the new ui of the latest version sucks really bad and there is no way to turn it off. at least with 126.21, i still have the old ui and most of the chat features.
so for some reason im stuck with the old ui with NO MODS. what i did is when the new ui was in experiment like 2 months ago( you could hold the sparkle emoji to activate it) and if you did that and then deactivated it before discord forced you with the new ui, you would keep the old ui for some reason.
I somehow still have the old ui and my discord app just updated an hour ago, I didn't participate in any new UI experiments. maybe the discord workers think I'm a power user or something

all i want from notifs is the ability to decide per-server if the notification makes a sound or not. i don't care for this "put servers into whole pre-defined categories so that u don't have to think and get to choose your needs for you from there" way of doing stuff. i also Really wish they'd release alternative color pallets for avatar decorations tbh. remember when they were letting us preview them, and that neat digital overlay one that they just give you now came in several different colors? i don't really see the benefit of making avatar and profile decorations boring

The new update actually made me have a full on mental breakdowns It’s so overly complicated for NO REASON. They didn’t have to change ANYTHING yet they did, and the only thing I’ve seen happen from that is giving me mental breakdowns and other people maybe too idk
I’m partially blind, and I heavily rely on screen reader, so whenever apps have major updates that move the buttons around, I get lost and frustrated So this update was not good and it might be good for some people, but they should at least provide the option to switch between the two of them because this new update took me months to learn (from when it was updated to now)

It nice to see the categories at the bottom, instead of having to go through many boutons. One thing NTTS forgot to mention is youtube premium only applies for US, KR, GB and french users. I used a VPN after taskkilling my client and it works 🤝

glad you could confirm that email was fake, i contribute to replugged and i was not looking forward to a bunch of whiny discord users asking if it was real or not. i honestly doubt the new emojis are real, it's probably just a spritesheet of those few faces for the emoji icon preview popup hover thingy; there's _so_ many emojis (literally 3,664 and new ones every year) and i doubt discord wants to spend the time & effort (& money) to redesign every single emoji.
to be honest the only thing i like about the mobile update is specifically being able to view the media (its like pinned messages but for images or videos and you can see who posted them aswell)

An issue with muscle memory: if mobile and desktop are different, then you have to have two different muscle memories for each which makes both harder to use. Also still no E2EE… why?

if you had the vencord theme where it changes the default emojis to another brand (apple, microsoft, ect.) the new icon update tries to use both emoji spritesheets for the icon in the bar and it is just cursed
I feel there were a lot of improvements with the update, but also a lot of things getting worse. I do like they added a "midnight" theme for pure black background, works great for OLED screens.
It would of been nice if they still had the warm grey background too though. But they didn't.
The new theme is alright, but removing the old grey one has negatively impacted a lot of users with visual accessibility concerns, notably those with astigmatism, as the new colour makes it much more difficult to read text. The grey theme should, at the very least, be an optional dark theme.

The main problem I have with the new discord update aside from where they inconveniently put the people server list is the removal of the top banner showing my connection status whenever I try to join a voice channel and the “MiniPlayer” box still being there even when no one has share screen or camera on.

I downgraded to 126.21, my life is awesome now. None of the annoying bugs I've just been having to deal with for the last year that they never fixed, and the only things you lose are like 1 or 2 useful but very minor features, like the ability to copy message links.

Nothing can beat those glassy old 3D style emojis they got rid of ages ago. I think discourse forums used to use these back in 2018. Notifications change is nice. Mobile UI is a terrible mess, but its possible to bypass via the ✨ emoji trick using a v205 client. That keeps the old UI even after the update (though you still see a glance of hell whenever the app starts up).

The new UI feels mostly the same to me, except for the fact that the search function is a lot worse now, the results are no longer put into pages (so you'd have to scroll through potentially thousands of messages if you're looking for old messages), and opening the member's list is more inconvenient. Other than that, I like the side panel and the swipe to reply feature, I think they're going in the right direction with this.
I prefer the old experimental one better, the one with the channels laid out at the bottom of your screen. It was a bit weird to use at first but once I got accustomed to it, it felt really nice to use

Yeah, I am not a fan of the new update. It makes things clumsier to navigate, it's hard to search through messages in a server, and things seem to be really slow so that it often fails to load messages on switching channels and just shows the messages from the previous channel on the new one (while still marking the new channel as read).
i think the new emojis should be separate from the old, displayed like server emojis. i don't like a new emoji, but some people do, and i feel like keeping the old and putting the new in a separate category would keep pretty much everyone happy
Discord has been batting a thousand at pumping out the most unnecessary, soulless, invasive and backwards updates imaginable. Discord had a unique identity and streamlined style that they've thrown away for the sake of trying to capture the themes of other social media platforms. I don't get to see the right-swipe side dash anymore that shows off all the members of my server and their roles and colors. They're literally just dialing back the quality of life.

The only thing I like about the new mobile update is to be able to search by media in DMs which makes looking for images a lot simpler without needing to remember a specific date or message tied to it. However I think they could have just added that alone without the new UI. It could just be that I am not used to it, but the UI change just makes things so much more annoying to navigate.

Probably the most baffling part of the UI update is the fact that they have TWO SEARCHS. And the fact that discord is so incompetent that they can't use universal standard icons anymore.
Member tab now has a search function but instead of it being a member button to make sure the user knows its for member related stuff it has a search icon, this new search tab that shows members and media CAN'T search for specific messages and has incomplete sets of filters and is very confusing on how to use.
Then there's the search bar on the channel section which is the traditional search, but they can't even do that competently either. In both versions they used an icon very reminiscent of a "settings" icon instead of having the universel funnel icon for filters making it really weird unintuitive
Then to wrap this entire shitstain of a feature up, while searches are much faster it now counts linked media as text and no longer gives u preview of the media when u search for messages...
Like bugginess aside ive been fine with it but the changes above i found today and irked me to hell and back

@@sylv512 DMY 24 hours is UK English, if you want that. Note that Discord is using CLDR, which would make it very easy for them to add more regions. But CLDR has it pre-determined if it's 12 hours or 24 hours in the locale itself. The program simply requests the format for time, and it will supply the format for 12 hours (with 'h' and 'a') or the format for 24 hours (with 'H'). To allow you to switch, you would then manually have to override the format and that could lead to a whole mess. But for French, which is currently FR, they could add more options as well. Compare:

I picked out DZ (Algeria) since it's the most populated region of Africa using 12 hours in French.
But best I still argue would be to just have a plain list of languages without regions, and then after selecting language, you select region. The selection of region will determine the date and time formats, if you get DMY, MDY, YMD and 12, 24 hours. I think this would be really good.
It will also change the spelling of months:
de-DE: Januar (Jan.), de-AT: Jänner (Jän.)
es-ES: septiembre (sept), es-PE: setiembre (set.)

But that's also why I do think it's important to include AU, because it's DMY with 12 hours.

I hate the new UI. I thought it would only be a few people since I only got a few problems with it. Mainly, the fact that they have limited the search function to the specific channel you are in, which is so annoying, because I'm using the search function sometimes and I need it. Other than that I haven't noticed anything major. Can someone explain what the deal is? It's hard for me to believe everyone is raging over the search function. Gotta be something else as well?
Only reason I haven't updated my phone's Discord app is due to all the hate I've heard about it. (including a friend saying it's even lagged A LOT on their end, making the app pretty much unusable) It's funny cause I updated the app a week before this went live too.
And considering I have an iPhone and Apple makes it impossible to revert to earlier versions, unless you jailbreak lol... or maybe there is a sideloaded version of Discord that uses the old mobile version (I use a sideloaded Twitter and UA-cam app, yes it's still the Twitter icon and everything lol) then you just "gotta deal with it" unlike Android users that *can* search for the apk file online and get an older version back on their phone.
Have for years kept my apps as "manual download updates only" and this is a good reason why. (sure, a lot of my apps may be outdated due to some constantly needing to be updated (have had over 120 apps needing updated lol...) but I turn notifs off on the app store anyways cause it'd always bug me to update apps I don't want to update anyways so...)

Honestly, as a discord phone user, the update’s not too bad. Voice chat was tough to use before, and now it’s okay. But, yeah, the update’s decent except the messages tab and the swipe for reply thing aren’t great.

A lot of people are talking about how we're complaining because of "how we're used to the old layout" but that's just not true. The app came with a lot of bugs as many have mentioned, and I have yet to see any of them being fixed even months later. Another thing is that the features don't really make any sense. They changed the colors of the app entirely, which I can adjust to, but for some people it's harder on their eyes and a pain to look at. Especially with video calling, the new colors are just a weird transition to when you're used to looking at a dark gray color. And then there's swipe to reply. The swiping to reply feature might be easier, but switching to the member tabs shouldn't have to be a completely new tab. There's already the ability to hold down on a message to bring up the reply, edit, thread, etc. features, so why get rid of an entire tab and then quickly go back to the chat, so that you could take one feature from the hold menu and replace it. This is the equivalent of having to open a completely new window on pc just to see who is online and what their status is. Not ideal right?
I would say that I like some of the new changes, but if the bugs and the two changes I mentioned above are to be reverted, then I think that the app would be good again.

While i typically am on NTTS side usually, taking the Discord reps word without scrutinizing it further is an L move. Especially since we have reached that point where many companies, discord included ,are doing a lot of scummy things and aren't afraid to lie or do something worst. swipe to reply is wrong on all levels for 2 reasons. I never reply to messages, I often check servers to see who is online and what games they are playing. so they moved a feature that I often use to a shitty spot ( buttons on the tops of big phones are practically un pressable.) to make it easier to do something I never do.

i am living with discord 126.21 (which is the last version of discord built with kotlin) because my phone cannot run the latest version of discord because it needs android 7 while i have android 6. i don't care much because the new ui of the latest version sucks really bad and there is no way to turn it off. at least with 126.21, i still have the old ui and most of the chat features.

all i want from notifs is the ability to decide per-server if the notification makes a sound or not. i don't care for this "put servers into whole pre-defined categories so that u don't have to think and get to choose your needs for you from there" way of doing stuff.
i also Really wish they'd release alternative color pallets for avatar decorations tbh. remember when they were letting us preview them, and that neat digital overlay one that they just give you now came in several different colors? i don't really see the benefit of making avatar and profile decorations boring

I’m partially blind, and I heavily rely on screen reader, so whenever apps have major updates that move the buttons around, I get lost and frustrated
So this update was not good and it might be good for some people, but they should at least provide the option to switch between the two of them because this new update took me months to learn (from when it was updated to now)

unpopular opinion: i prefer the new ui, i only really use discord for messaging and it’s much more convenient for my fingers. i think discord should allow people to still use the old us if they want tho.
An issue with muscle memory: if mobile and desktop are different, then you have to have two different muscle memories for each which makes both harder to use. Also still no E2EE… why?
