One part of the Windows 7/8/8.1 deprecation announcement was not acknowledged in this video, where they actually say that basic functionality will still be available on those systems after deprecation. This means, they'll stop updating the Discord client when support ends, and therefore it will continue to work on those systems but they will not hold themselves responsible if features eventually break due to the outdated Discordapp version
So basically, they're not going out of their way to make it not work, because why would they? They just can't keep supporting ancient OS versions because people are against change.
Some people don't seem to be bothered by using clients that are like >1 year old. Just the other day I had someone reply with the old "quote" feature instead of the reply that replaced it lmao

The CTRL+SHIFT+L shortcut to start streaming was hilarious cause it's the default shortcut to autofill username and password in the Bitwarden password manager, meaning that every time I'd autofill a password via that shortcut, Discord would immediately start streaming my credentials xD Why they decided they wanted to add an unchangeable default shortcut for screensharing, when there isn't even a default one for muting your mic is beyond me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i found it nice, because streaming on linux with Wayland is really annoying without it. you can't change the complete screen, only windows. so you could use it to switch windows and then stream the new window. and they don't allow it anymore, Even if i want to enable it

Basically the route of amino, except it should be actually good unlike amino. At a certain point I would have ads turned OFF because I didn't want the perks anymore, and amino would still force 4-5 ad videos in a row (not joking, it was literal video spam) and I wouldn't get anything from it. wall of text jumpscare incoming: as a game dev (although i don't like calling myself one lol), i've recently had to decide on the nicest way to add microtransactions which wouldn't take away from the experience of my game. (free games aren't free to make, i need to pay for the upkeep somehow). I can tell you that the reason for putting the text limit behind a paywall is: people with a reason to send longer messages are likely to be willing to pay for that ability, so from discord's pov it's a really easy way to get some extra cash. also, storage space isn't cheap, and discord has to store many many terabytes worth of messages, so adding a limit to the length of a message will prevent anyone from spamming extremely long messages and wasting valuable space. by paying for nitro (and thus a doubled message length limit) you are directly paying for the cost of potentially using twice as much storage space than a non-nitro user. i realise i sound like i'm defending discord here; i'm not, i just thought you'd appreciate an explanation for the paywall lol

@@skmgeeki totally understand what you mean, but for discord at least, the file uploads are much more of a concern for size i think. text is small. 4 000 character of text should be around 4MB of storage if uncompressed. sure, it adds up, but i think attachments are probably much more than an average message, as i think most messages won't go nearly to the full length. for a game, where you don't share files, i can totally understand your reasoning. (and i could maybe understand from dc, if they didn't raise the limit for file uploads recently)

the thing that makes me laugh with this is that Discord is just a web client with a dedicated front end. If you know how to fuck with websites, modifying Discord is most likely a walk in the park. People will just switch to using modified clients.

IF they add ad's, give us an option to turn it off but those who have it turned on get access to a "Ad Nitro" basically letting them have some of Nitro's perks as a reward for having Ad's on. It allows people who dont want ad's to keep it that way but those who dont mind can activate it and get a reward.

Basically the route of amino, except it should be actually good unlike amino. At a certain point I would have ads turned OFF because I didn't want the perks anymore, and amino would still force 4-5 ad videos in a row (not joking, it was literal video spam) and I wouldn't get anything from it. I was using iphone, this was around 2020-2022, apparently it's still the same today. Amino sucks in general.

That's my biggest gripe with Discord as a roleplay writer, sometimes my writing can get pretty long, and I'm TIRED of having to limit to 2000 characters and have to pay to get more. Like WTF???? as a game dev (although i don't like calling myself one lol), i've recently had to decide on the nicest way to add microtransactions which wouldn't take away from the experience of my game. (free games aren't free to make, i need to pay for the upkeep somehow). I can tell you that the reason for putting the text limit behind a paywall is: people with a reason to send longer messages are likely to be willing to pay for that ability, so from discord's pov it's a really easy way to get some extra cash. also, storage space isn't cheap, and discord has to store many many terabytes worth of messages, so adding a limit to the length of a message will prevent anyone from spamming extremely long messages and wasting valuable space. by paying for nitro (and thus a doubled message length limit) you are directly paying for the cost of potentially using twice as much storage space than a non-nitro user.
i realise i sound like i'm defending discord here; i'm not, i just thought you'd appreciate an explanation for the paywall lol

@@skmgeeki totally understand what you mean, but for discord at least, the file uploads are much more of a concern for size i think. text is small. 4 000 character of text should be around 4MB of storage if uncompressed. sure, it adds up, but i think attachments are probably much more than an average message, as i think most messages won't go nearly to the full length.
for a game, where you don't share files, i can totally understand your reasoning.
(and i could maybe understand from dc, if they didn't raise the limit for file uploads recently)

7:44 Well, on Linux with Wayland it would not start streaming the screen, instead it would open the portal asking the user which surface (screen or window) they want to stream. So if you just click that away your screen isn't streamed to anyone.

Dicsord's Support actually does work... I only had to create 20 tickets. But they did give me back my hacked server (that went from 80k members to 40k..) that I lost ownership of because my discord token got hacked.

At least in the case of Discord there are countless ways to keep it working, even the official app will work for a long time without updates. The Discord apps on iOS 9 and Mac OS 10.11 still work

Well there's an easy solution to this.... don't be a degenerate.
If you're running a server where teens are posting photos in sexualized clothing then your server should be banned. If your server isn't doing that, then you don't have much to worry about. From what I can tell all the banned servers had minors posting borderline illegal images.
