    I know it's three years later, but I am writing about this now, and this explanation is perfect. Gunwerks owner Aaron Davidson talked about this 11 years ago, but you explained it better. This is really, really important information. Thank you, Mark!

    Its hard to argue with what Mark is saying. This is exactly why bipods on military heavy machine guns have decent amount of play also. Rocking motion is certainly what is required. Thanks Mark for reiterating this

    You got me doing this off the bench with a small 1x1 slat across. You never expressed muscling the load. You were very clean about what you do and I followed. I explain it as comfortably loaded. I'd do the same prone off a shooting matt that has the bipod load strap. I did the same just shooting off the ground with pod on dirt. What I found, and I'm grateful to you for improving my shooting consistency, I wasn't wrestling with my gun anymore and using the press pressure correctly for me.
    I also learned a few other things from your channel since I found it. I have used it with my Ruger Precision 6.5 Creedmoor and my Grendel. I'm from Oklahoma so we have our own places we can get out to as far as we want but I shoot mostly with my friends at 1,000 up to 1,500 yards. I also reload and have my own load development.
    My long guns and glass is no where close to the great tools you have, but I'm proud of what I can get, out of what I can afford, plus I love my guns. Your instruction goes along way to me getting all I can get out of me....Ha
    Thanks for all the help buddy and I'm still not caught up with you videos.

    Nice to hear other people found out the same that works for me since years. I had friens stiffen up tjeir bipods, I told em to leave it flexing, but they wouldnt listen. But in my rifles I got the bipods exactly working as you mentioned. I put some spikes onto them so i can get them to track verry consistent no matter if I shoot in the dirt or bench. Just on comcrete bemches the spikes wouldnt work, and my rifles anyway dont like concrete benches, things get jumpy there. Best is wet soil I found for best accuracy, as it dapens a lot of the vibrations.

    The first video on this topic caused me to adopt the concept and I was stunned at how much difference it made and this from 22 rim fire up to and including 308 NATO via 6.5 X 284. Great work, keep it up, best wishes form Northern Ireland !

    Thanks for the advice. Up to 300m pushing against my bipod worked for me. I tested 600m, 800m and 1000m and it did not work. So i tried to let the bipod loose so it could flex, and that worked for me. 😀👍

    I noticed this even on a harris, never thought of it this way though, thanks! When the legs are extended that little bit of play is there, and I tend to have smaller groups and less flyers. When collapsed in its a very rigid system, and I get occasionally more flyers. I always thought in my head that I should be more stable low. I've always noticed a difference though. In my opinion, it's important to know what your rifle will do no matter your position. You don't find too many people making M&S level ELR shots off a farm gate or a boulder though :-)
    Amazing advice. You're a great teacher. Thanks, and Cheers!

    I experienced that when I put spikes on my bi pod and loaded it to much, lost my accuracy. Find now with the rubber feet I load it just enough on the bench so it doesn't slide forward. That is the sweet spot. Good Video as Always...Thanks

  • @Teleman01

    At my range I usually shoot from a wooden bench. So the top is wooden. I found that when I switched to spiked feet on my bipod, my groups opened up. But when I went back to the rubber feet, things went back to normal. I found that my bipod was bouncing more using the spiked feet. I don't know if it was digging into the wood and not having any give whatsoever. But I could tell a big difference..

    As always, Great information, Mark. Wish you could have been doing these videos when I was struggling so hard to hit a target at 2 miles away. Just had to keep going back to the drawing board and configure my next plan of attack. I think that shooting in the mountainous area I shot created big problems with my dynamics of travel and consistency as well. I don't think I ever felt a larger range of emotions than I did when I put my first two shots 10 1/6" apart on the 36" target I was using. Never tried the third shot.

    Hahaha I feel like my question about having a stiff bipod is answered 😅
    After you suggested it I have thought of a way to mod my accutac to give it some play by putting in some lighter springs and shimming the legs so they don't lock into the dovetail as hard
    Need to test it....
    but it definitely doesn't seem to track or move as nicely on a table top that your set up does🥴
    I also saw a guy on UA-cam setting his rifles POA on target On his bag and bipod,
    Then nestled up behind the rifle......totally different from anything I have seen. I'd definitely like your thoughts on that!
    Search "primal rights natural poa if you want to see what I'm talking about....

    What about skid pods. Mark, I see precision shooters in the states.

    • @dinoc.5537
      @dinoc.5537 3 роки тому +2

      I can help answer this Darren. The F-Class T/R Rules can be found on the internet. Those T/R rules differ from the Open Class by the front rest where T/R allows the bipod or sling rather than a machine rest. Nothing stops those bipods from looking just like Mark's. The ones you are referring to are special support philosophy where if we think of Mark's bipod as one type, and a machine rest as another, those more rigid bipods are sort of a third where the attempt is made to have the recoil translate at the sliding skids rather than through the bipod play or the slide between a stock and the machine rest. One could talk all day about the differences in machine rests, regular bipods, and rigid bipods, but the concepts Mark is discussing are similar when they are applied correctly. To see more on the topic, focus on F-T/R instead of F-Open.

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  3 роки тому

      Well different but similar, needs set up plate to rest skids on and largely designed for heavier rifles, not something I use or advise on, Cheers

    Hi Mark, I follow your channel and I understand the theory behind bipod preloading (forward loading). My question is about Atlas PSR series bipod which purposely introduced Fore and Aft pivot limiting bosses in that bipod to actually prevent any leg movement along barrel axis (make it rigid). Atlas PSR bipods was designed to comply with US SOCOM requirements and this upgrade was one of those requirements. So I am confused why they wanted to have a rigid bipod system selected for US SOCOM sniper rifles?

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  2 роки тому

      They are semi rigid, still have the slight movement I describe, we show the Atlas all the time, Cheers

    Good Afternoon, Mark and Sam! Question: how often do you find yourselves having to use the vertical reticle post and stadia to aim, supposing you engage a target at a distance shorter than your zero distance? There are some great scopes with the Horus H59 reticle, but leave a bit to be desired when it comes to having an aiming point for shooting "under" your zero distance.

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  3 роки тому

      Not with a 100 yard zero on an ELR rifle, but in other forms of shooting, we do all sorts, as far as holding under, you have to deal with what have....not an ELR question, sorry, Cheers
