  • Welcome to the Long Neck Karen Tribe here in Northern Thailand. In today's video, we set off on our fourth day on the Mae Hong Son Loop in search of the beautiful tribe that makes up the Long Neck Karens. We wanted to find the most ethical place to visit so we did a little research and found that this place offers classes for jewelry making and cooking but due to the pandemic, the Long Neck Karens of the Huay Pu Keng village were not running any of these classes. The Huay Pu Keng Village is truly the most authentic one of the bunch as it's remote and more difficult to get to for tourists. I'd recommend people avoid the Long Neck Karen Villages in Chaing Mai and Chaing Rai as it can feel more like a human zoo than an authentic experience where you give back to the community. Again remember to be respectful, not intrusive, and ask for photos and videos of the Long Neck Karens. Plus REMEMBER TO BUY SOMETHING to support the Long Neck Karens.

Who would visit this place? Hopefully they bring back those cooking and jewelry making classes. Again this is the most ethical one out of the bunch! I’d avoid the ones in Chiang Mai and Chiang rai

It’s very much a catch 22, but I’m glad we went and supported them and learned about their culture and lives. Glad we chose this village!

Bekah! thanks so much for joining us.
We generally do some research before I go well atleast my partner in crime Frances takes the lead on this one.
We want to immerse ourselves in culture and doing things off the beaten path so google maps is a great tool for us.

Refugees in my country are also not citizen. There are too many eg rohinyas, filipinos. 150k at least. They hv to fend for themselves because we hv to focus on citizens. We are just doing it for humanitarian purpose.
