In this clip, Vlad asked Beanie Sigel if he remembers how the beef between Roc-A-Fella and The Lox started. Beanie explained that there were subliminal shots being thrown from both sides. He went on to point out the remix of R. Kelly's "Fiesta," which featured The Lox, as a catalyst in the beef.

Man I hated some of these beefs during this time. Most of the NY/Philly beefs crushed us as fans. I was so loyal to Jay as a listener, that I was buying Jay/Roc A Fella albums and only getting the free joints from Jada and them (mixtape stuff and leaks). But looking back, it was also such a fun time to be a fan. So much great music and now so many stories to be told

A big part of why the beef started was because everytime Kiss did a feature Jay-Z would jump on the remix and try to outshine him. It was the Mya “Best of Me” and R Kelly “Fiesta” remixes in particular. That’s why at the height of the battle, I forget what song it is but Styles P says to Jay-Z “get off my man d*ck and let him do his numbers”, implying that Jay kept tryna steal Jada’s shine. Jay-Z is still the same person as many people pointed out even recently that every time Nas dropped a project in the past few years Jay-Z would make a huge announcement the same day lol. He always been a petty dude.

Honestly those are just coincidences though. Steve Stoute did an interview where he said their record label reached out to JayZ and asked him if he’d feature on the remix of that song. It wasn’t like Jay asked them if he could be on it. And that Fiesta song was around the same time JayZ and R.Kelly were doing that collab album together so that Fiesta song made sense to some degree

That's been my point. Dudes mad about remixes but gonna pretend like a member of their crew didn't diss Hov on his own song two years prior. Then, get mad about 50 goin' at Kiss on Piggy Bank but conveniently forget that Styles threw a shot 50 way before Piggy Bank on Get Shot Down on DMX's Grand Champ album. The LOX were known for throwin' subliminals. It even sounded like they were taking shots at 50 on Shootouts off of Kiss's album Kiss of Death and the song The Essence off of the album that Alchemist released called 1st Infantry. Both of those songs were also before Piggy Bank.

Kiss the Kellz original Fiesta song. Then jay did the remix. Kiss also did Mya's Best Of Me. Jay did the remix w/DJ Clue, which ended up on the Backstage soundtrack. Jada got pissed & set it off again with Styles on their version of the Fiesta remix. The rest after that was a war before the Lox & State Property.

Remixes were once a thing, so yeah you can’t have a remix without the original, that wasn’t a shot @ Kiss. I always felt like there was mutual respect between Jay & the Lox with Big being the link between them. I also felt like Blackout / Reservoir Dawgs was just steel sharpening steel even tho Styles did throw jabs in Hovs direction on both, but they were on Backstage CD for Clue too around this time. All I know was rap was flying high during that phase, nothing but 🔥

Been watching Vlad for years. It just dawned on me you can always count on Vlad to ask questions are about beefs crimes and drama.....and almost none about the music itself. Vlad will often tell the artist he loved their song or catalogue......but I can count on one hand the number of times Vlad has asked "tell me about making that song/album/beat".....hearing people's life stories is priceless too but for us who actually love the music and not just the personas........we're missing out on so many untold stories of making these classic records....those memories are priceless too...Vlad if you see this please dig into the music more

I also heard about Jay taking a shot at Jada on “Fiesta remix” like Beans said.
Then Hov said I got the East Coast, who the fuck took it from me. Change the game remix. That was in response to Jadakiss saying he got the East Coast on his back on WW3.
