  • In this interview, Joey chats with ‪@OrdinaryFolk‬ Jorge and Avi about the design of their project for the new Animation Bootcamp. They’ll also go pretty deep into the weeds about how they manage client projects and how their design process works.
    In case you didn’t know, we’re relaunching the course that started it all: Animation Bootcamp! And to celebrate the new version of the class, we enlisted our friends at Ordinary Folk to design a killer set of boards for the Animation Bootcamp’s final project. Learn More: som.bz/3Lsj7RP

    @37:00 - This color question deserves a course of it's own. Mixing and matching colors in the right place, on the right element - is something no one talks about. Finding a cool color scheme isn't enough

    Love that Jorge and Avi balance each other out with their opinions and advise to both serve the larger narrative and going the extra mile to do justice to the design but have fun while doing it and also trusting your instincts.

    Saying you either have it or you don't, spoken like a true calvinist haha... (not sure if Jorge is calvinist, but I believe he worked with piper at one point.) All the love to Jorge and crew. JR's "Crazy Enough" is what made me fall in love with animation.

      If he isn't a Calvinist, I'd be surprised! Done some things with Ligonier as well, and the title sequence for the Puritan film.

    I peeked at some of their project files, and man! They are heavy as hell! My PC can't handle it. They must work on i9's 128GB Ram GTX4090's or something, cause otherwise you can work fluidly at all. All of those shape layers within a single scene get super heavy.

    Will all of the school of motion courses be upgraded in the near future? I didn't want to take some of those because they use quite old software, so it would be appreciated if they all get upgraded somewhere in the next few years.

    I think artistic taste is innate in being human. It's more a matter of developing the sensitivity to recognize your taste and the skill to render it. So, Jorge's right: you have it or you don't--I just believe that everyone has it.

    • @zachr0
      @zachr0 9 місяців тому +1

      I think everyone universally has a sense of beauty or a desire for beautiful things. But people have varying degrees of ability to express themselves through different artforms; speaking, writing, music, building etc. I think some people are born with a proclivity towards a certain artform; think of a savant piano player vs someone who is tone deaf. But I'm not sure if its talent is like an "on or off switch", but more a matter of varying degrees.

    its unfortunate Ordinary Folk waste so much talent on pieces about out-dated and hateful dogmas like Christianity but its hard to not love how much work they put in to make art and motion design at the highest-level, accessible for anyone with their project files.
