Spark plugs change takes an hour max. I fixed wind noise with a simple clamp. Just apply it for 15 mins to that triangular thing where your side view mirror is. There are iron plates under the rubber cover that come apart after a while. Remove a plastic cover thing, it’s on the interior side and then just clamp them back together. Make sure that a gap between them is about 3-5 millimetres. Done. Easy.
Our old Forester 2.0 l in Boston made ma fall in love with that model. No matter what happens- it runs! When Volvo XC70 swallows gas as a hungry wolf and cries for the urgent maintenance- Forester just smiled and keep working)). Yep, the interior is poor, the paint is typical Japanese thin bad paint, the fenders became rusty, so what? It works, and even after the engine was overheated- it still runs somewhere in New Mexico after just a full regular maintenance . I love that car
I think you need to ditch the speed dealer sunglasses, then the holders will work for you. Also, how are you getting such bad mileage? I get about 9.8-10.3 L/100km (I’m in Australia) with around 60% highway driving although it is completely stock. Those gussets are a real pain my rectum also, I thought I would just get used to it but it’s slowly driving me over the edge…. Enjoying the videos as usual, keep em coming!
I've got stock european version of SG 2.5XT 155kW MT and I have about 10.5-12.5 l/100km - 22.4-18.8mpg (50% in the city, 50% highways [150km/h - cca 93mph] and country roads [100-130km/h - 62-80mph]). I'm driving fast, once I tried to go with lowest consumption and I had about 9.5l/100km - 25mpg.
Forester wrx STI for the Japanese market is amazing. There are lot of mods/spare parts offers for the Japanese market. You just need to search for the part you need. And BTW they have a great and cheap choice for used parts in a great shape on their online auctions. BBS and other custom lightweight wheels, tuning parts etc . Here in Vladivostok foresters wrx STI are very popular as a cheaper alternative to Evos, Imprezas and European models
Yo man i have an 05 XT 5MT and I recently found out that i had horrible gas mileage due to a failing MAF sensor. I'd try to disconnect it and spray it down with MAF cleaner and then plug it back up. Didn't work for me unfortunately had to go buy another $100 denso one, but the good mileage and steady idle have returned
My MPGs aren't too bad. There's plenty of exhausts available. Get the WRX wagon one. I've never had to use the plug. I've flashed my car more than a few times. Just a tip, go through the wheel well for the plugs. STi also has a completely different transmission. And made it's name by rally, not road racing. You need new door gaskets. Fuel filter is 60k. Per Subaru.
That wind noise is not from mirrors, it's from that metal triangle, where is mirror from outside and speaker inside. Take off speaker and mirror and tight it.
My 05 forester XT has all these issues lol 165k miles and running like a beast. Only thing is, it’s leaking oil from a thick hose that’s connected to the oil filter housing thing. Can anyone please tell me what that is called???
Watched your other two videos and got super stoked, watched this one and still remained super stoked as my '05 corolla xrs is an absolute shitbox about to blow at any moment. All of these issues seem so trivial when I'm currently driving a car with 4/6 gears, a hole in the rocker panel and a seized caliper lmao. I know the seized brake can be fixed easily and cheaply but there is no point since I'll have to scrap it anyways in the next couple weeks.
You gotta put them in JUST RIGHT to get them to fit. I know exactly what you mean, but maybe my typical glasses are a bit smaller than yours. Yup, wind noise is a big minus on these cars, even with new gussets it aint quiet!
I don't see how the diff control would be an issue offroading, the AWD solves all problems, we got real shitty roads in Tanzania and I've never had anything to complain about regarding how it handles the roads out here, it's actually fantastic. I would never change it even if I had the control
I had a 2004 5 speed and the gas mileage was one of the reasons I sold it. Great sleeper and it was a lot of fun but my fuel expense was getting close to a mortgage payment
5 things I hate about my 2020 forester: 1) no room in spare tire well for spare tire sized the same as running tires 2) usb port for phone is hidden in cave, android auto does not always work 3) little clearance with chains between chains and fenders with snow built up 4) doors freeze stuck if go thru a puddle at low elevation and freezing at higher elevations 5) oil filter can not be pre-filled with oil like older subarus could so low oil pressure after each oil change for a few minutes
My Top Nits, Dash lights too dim, turn signal too quiet, Body too flexy, and that is about it. My 07 XT paint in Newport Blue has held up great in harsh conditions . My fuel Filter has 290,000Km on it , runs great, gets great mileage on the highway. Around town it is OK. My car burnt no oil between changed till about 20K ago
Thank you for sharing about the fuel filter and oil filter problems!!! How about the radiators leaking and having to change then because they are plastic, they do break easily
@@JRobling am going to get one this year and your video really helped so much! Is it better with a turbo or non turbo for daily driving both on and off road

Took me 3 hours to change my spark plugs lmao, was almost impossible to get my wrench in there
@ For a fast change you need a wrench extension with adjustable angle. It costs 5$ where I’m from
The 02 / 03 JDM bugeye hood scoop fits our cars perfectly. It looks exactly like the FXT scoop but it's twice as tall.
do you know if it would fit an 06' FXT?

That is close to what I am getting, but i'm guessing being in Australia you have a warmer climate and possibly more highway driving?
he needs a good map...oh is automatic nevermind.
I get 26-27 highway. 🤔 I’m built and fully modded. It all depends on your tune.
Wow that's some great milage, do you have an mpg tune?
21ish here heavily modded. If you're getting less than 15 something is drastically wrong
J Robling, did you get the forester tuned after upgrading the parts? Anything done to the engine needs to be tuned or it will run bad.

BS dude I get 28mpg with an XT. You need to reset your trip timer and watch it a bit more closely.
Must be nice man mine mpg is so bad with mine but I’ve done a bunch of mods to it
Lmao no way youre getting 28mpg, I’m also getting 18mpg lol
My 05 manual xt leaks gas. Lol. I’m trying to fix that and the burning oil and everything else wrong with it
Somethings wrong if you're getting 15 mpg, I get 15 in my V8 tundra DC
I get 15 in my 500 hp V-10 BMW. Your Forester should be getting 22-26, depending on how you drive.

The Bugeye STI (round lights) scoop fits on the PFL (Pre-Facelift) SG Forester XT such as yours.

😂 I done the same with the sunglasses 😂 great video 🤙🏴
Your MPG problem is really obvious: You have a 1st gen Honda Insight to compare to. AKA "They Hypermiler's Ferrari."
I had a 2004 5 speed and the gas mileage was one of the reasons I sold it. Great sleeper and it was a lot of fun but my fuel expense was getting close to a mortgage payment
You would not buy one if you were worried about gas, I get 15-20L/100km depending how I drive it, all Highway. Not stock, 2017
Bigger hood scoops from Imprezas will fit. Mine came from a "bugeye".
Make a switch for the green test plug!

Ok the gas mileage thing is strange but some of the advice near the end is pretty solid.
Making 7mpg with my foot on the throttle 💪
My 2016 XT with computer reprogramming and cold air I get 26-27 mpg if I keep my foot off the floor. With 13.7 E.T. to boot - love it.
not fitting your sunglasses is a problem with your sunglasses not your car
The lifetime filters you do have to clean.
Is access port same as OBD?
I see you eventually changed the hoses for the AOS. I was wondering about the durability of those clear hoses.
The clear ones that I got were just too thin and started to kink at bends. I ended up going with some heater hose
My sunglasses always fit. What do you wear oversize chic sunglasses?😄
