    Thank you so much, it is one of the best videos on the subject, i got Elements in my rack from the begining i use it in conjunction with a Wogglebug and Clouds. Pure bliss. Ten years later all still in place. And infinite possibilities.

    Oh man, thanks for the video. I have the 'atom' module and it really is a gem. Between the original firmware and the later ones this thing just rocks. I sometimes match this with 'marbles' or actually more often with my SIG÷ and just jam through endless soundscapes of resonator/modeler bliss. Lay down a thick creamy drone and this module compliments it perfectly with wild movement. Love the module! Happy New Year all!

    Awesome video. I've always found Elements slightly harsh sounding, but will definitely keep exploring it.
    Good to see you mentioned the VCV version too, I recently helped beta test a polyphonic Rings clone from the Sanguine Mutants collection, and the developer is thinking of doing a poly Elements too at some point. That would be immense!

    thank you so much for doing this video on Elements
    I tried a so called "deep dive" livestream back in 2023 where I went through the manual, even though by this time I had owned Elements for over five years... it sucks big time and the fact that the livestream was plagued with total dropouts was probably karma haha
    lately, Elements is one of my main "go to" modules for adding colour to my drones
    to that end I send a constant voltage to the gate input and then "perform" Elements by manually turning the Bow and Blow knobs (not so much the strike)
    once the drone is going I can either manually control the other parameters or use LFO to modulate them, or sometimes both, especially Brightness
    for wild stuff I'll reach for Geometry
    and, finally, I have noise from my Doepfer A-118 routed into the FM input (if I have one complaint about Elements it would be not having CV on the FM depth, although you can achieve the same by running the noise into a VCA first)
    I do cover this in a more successful video of mine where I go into more detail of how I create my drones using my modular system
    anyway, great video... I will add a link to this and give it a mention in my livestream this morning
    cheers,
    andy

    Thanks for the inspiration - I have just ordered a clone of TLM Audio called “MODAX”. In mid-January I'll get the BONKERS MODULE from Raw Analogue Sounds/Bulgaria, which I've been longing for, and I think the two will complement each other extremely well in terms of special feedback patching in combination with the papomi module.

    Fab video. Your comment about writing a book reminded how much i would love to have all the Mutable manuals in a nicely bound little volume. TBC I already have nearly all the modules and their manuals, but it could be such a nice "final product" for the collective exploration of modular possibilities that MI was.

      @@CinematicLaboratory oh yes, i actually have most of it printed out. It's more the desire to have a handbook instead of a folder of (very lovely) original manuals plus printouts plus the cheatsheets for Qiemem and Parasites etc. I have occasionally thought about comping all the PDFs into a huge poster and printing it but i never get around to it.

    Thanks, man .. recalling when I first obtained Rings .. "oooh no, what did I do?" feeling .. and then one day, someone mentioning the fine tuning pot, on Rings .. and, happy day! my pitch conflicts, were over. Rings (or Elements, I'm sure) has that second voice, to go along with something like Beads, or the like .. that is very appealing. Rings/Elements .. often is Asian-like .. as in a Koto, which was one of my favorite keyboard synth settings (D-50), from years ago.

    You say to feed it varying gate lengths. How about varying gate heights? Does it respond to 0ctrls dynamic gates and triggers from the strength row? Since I saw this video I’ve been on the verge of buying atoms. Probably will in the next day or so it sounds amazing here!

    Eye opening exploration of Elements and ATOM Modules. I have the ATOM clone since I got involved with Modular Synthesis near the end of Mutable Instruments existence. I'm having a difficult time finding the original Manuals and I need them for the MI Clones so I can actually use these amazing Modules. Do you know where the Manuals can be downloaded? I would appreciate any assistance. This video helped quite a bit already so thank you 😅❤~

    The OG's real estate was too much for me..
    The ALA or Antumbra (the dimensions featured in the video) is too small and too dense. The plastic shafts aren't fun to usev at the best of times, but when there are that many..😔
    There's little panel distinction to understand what you're doing, matching inputs to knobs.
    Unless you're really outta space, the Michigan Synth Works is the best clone; proper knobs, better spacing, super clean panel. Plus you can colour the knob's white strips to match the OG, less confusing. Also the coloured CVin's knobs are a massive improvement on the OG Elements module.
    You're welcome

      A good thing about the layout of the original Elements is the separation of the exciter and the modal resonator, think of the two as the stick, vs the skin of a drum in drumkit.

    • @davepeachey3072
      @davepeachey3072 17 днів тому

      FWIW, ALA also produces the Quarks clone with (as far as I can tell) the same dimension/layout of the MSW versions. I have this ALA version and find it a nice compromise in the areas of size vs. accessibility.
      Also, for those who have an Atom module, Pusherman Products (in the UK) sells a double sided 'Ominous' replacement panel which has the normal Atom/Elements controls layout on one side and the 2Op FM Easter Egg controls layout on the other.

    I’m not really a fan of elements personally, i dont like the way it sounds. It seems to me like the internal gain staging of the filters isnt well done. Rings is a little better in that regard, but i’m not really a mutable instruments fan anyway. It is a really unique module though, i can appreciate that

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  17 днів тому +1

      Thanks for sharing your honest opinion. Elements is already nine years old and I wish manufacturers wouldn't just clone it, but port it to more capable hardware with better resolution and the latest DSP. Regardless of sound quality, the code is just brilliant.

      @ yeah thats the way i feel about most mutable clones, its nice to have the straight up clones but id love to see the code used in more creative and unique ways. I dont know how much the open source license permits that kind of experimentation though, but it would be super cool
