Mitchell is the ultimate stereotypical mary sue character designed by an edgy 11 year old. He's Adrian Shepherd's brother, and he survived the Black Mesa Incident, and took part in the Seven Hour War, and survived fighting Gordon Freeman, and fought the Combine, and joined the Combine to fight the Rebels, and got to meet G-Man, and...
... Met Minecraft Steve, went on an *epic* building adventure, killed breen with nothing but a soda can, killed g-man and took his powers, conquers everything known to man and combine and more, retires, sits on his porch, carves birds, gets told that he needs to go kill Gordon Freeman still, kills Gordon, and *_THEN_* ...
This made me realize something. The idea that both Shepherds would be deployed to Black Mess doesn’t really add up because I believe there is a doctrine in the US military to put siblings into separate units to remove possible complications.
... He works a 9-5 office job for 2 years, becomes severely depressed, kills himself, revives himself (Because he has G-mans powers.), revives G-man to work for Steve, G-man kills Steve, Alex kills G-man, THEN.....
When the video talks about the discrepancy between the tactical shooter controls and the traditional HL2 enemies, I instantly thought of fighting stock HL2 enemies in gmod using some tactical weapons pack.
It's true that the crowbar beatdown scene is needlessly dramatic and drawn-out, but it occurred to me that I've actually gone out of my way to kill HECUs with just the crowbar before out of boredom, so this isn't even the most unfaithful part of the story to Half-Life.
You’re ordered to gun down civilians, scientists and security guards at a DoD contracted research facility... for some reason instead of mounting a rescue. You encounter a scientist in an armored suit desperately running for his life and killing the same hostile aliens you’re fighting. Instead of killing you in self-defense, he knocks you unconscious and keeps running. “That evil bastard, how could he do this?! I’ll have my totally justified revenge!” 10/10 script
The dumbest part is that he could've easily just sworn revenge on him for killing his comrades which is a helluva lot more realistic and understandable than getting the shit kicked out of and getting scarred. And then the whole revenge thing gets turned on its head when Mitchell flat-out gives up on it halfway through only for Gman to twist his arm into doing it because of a convoluted scheme that doesn't even make any sense within the context of HL2's story. Case in point: Gman spent 20 years orchestrating events just so Mitchell can provide a distraction for Freeman to escape City 17...even though at that exact time he should be stuck in limbo for a week after escaping Nova Prospect with Alyx...and the game itself acknowledges this! To say that they didn't give a shit would be a major understatement.
Actually, that battle scene with weird combines early on letting you shoot combines is intentional, you just have to kill the entire combine army and then you'll get the secret ending where peace has returned to Earth and Luigi will be unlocked as a playable character
They have the Nova Prospekt one but I think it might be very expensive or unique, since from the Citadel their main deployment method is still flying (and likely marching) out.
@@RandomTomatoSoup AFAIK judith reprogrammed it, but yeah, the whole thing was that the combine didn't know how to teleport inside a dimension, but they can teleport from one dimension to another.
honestly, the fact that the name was used on this game instead of a simple but tight gmod gamemode is a testament to just how much potential was wasted
@@the_revi8762 Some parts are ported from some of the devs' maps, no assets were "stolen" but they really fucking recycled what they could from their library
To expand on the "G-Man isn't supposed to be this omniscient" point from a better informed angle: If you look past his cryptic wording and behaviour, G-Man is a pretty straightforward employer in the official games. When he defrosts Gordon for HL2, his plan amounts to "Hey, Gordon? I need you kill Dr. Breen by the end of the week. Here's a few contacts to hit up if you need more weapons." Simple as that. Furthermore, we know he can't account for everything, otherwise he would've been able to see the Vortigaunts overpowering him and freeing Gordon coming and made countermeasures. He's clever, but he isn't Tzeentch.
Honestly, I thought he *was* omniscient to some degree, or at least whoever's pulling his strings is. Since he basically pulled a timelord move in the end of Alyx.
@L A Alyx certainly does take him in a new direction that shows him to be a lot more powerful than what we assumed, but it's still not to the point of what we see here. His actions are still pretty straightforward ("Hey, Alyx. I have a job opening since Gordon's underperforming. Name your price."), and he's still fallible since the Combine were able to imprison him. What his newfound time-altering shenanigans means is up in the air (and given that this is Valve it might stay that way) but it seems like this is just Episode 2 G-Man taking a backwards leap in time to try a Plan B after deciding Gordon isn't worth the effort anymore, whereas by HDTF's rules it'd be pre-HL2 G-Man making sweeping predictions of Gordon somehow going off the rails.
thank u for wording this so well. also, he acts like so much of just a...regular-ass human man in this game. he just turns to walk away, no cool effects or other-worldlyness. he has very human facial acting & eye movements.
@@LA-be8fuHe totally has outer powers like time manipulation, but his powers seem to be limited to having to use an “employee” to do the work, he simply guides them in the direction he needs for things to be “nudged” as he puts it, like a game of domino where you are permitted to use a single piece at a time to make everything else fall. He could totally make the combine leave earth if he wanted, but said nudge goes against the interests of whoever is “employing” G-Man.
@@Predator20357 it’s not cause he’s a youtuber it’s cause keem doesn’t value anyone but himself. I think he’s included in youtuber events cause he once had a large follower count. It’s funny that the game has him as president as he would be totally willing to surrender the human race to aliens for power, money, spite, and/or amusement.
I love how the Colonel immediately identifies Adam as a "black ops" like it's just another branch of the military and not a top secret deep state death squad.
Also, I'm nitpicking, but the 'combine' is not the name for the 'benefactors'. It's an insult for how they go through planets like a combine harvester, taking all resources. The name was also given after humanity surrendered, after humanity saw what the combine does. It wouldn't make sense humanity already knows about the combine and what they do. This means Presdnt Keeem is a time traveler!

Whats with the National Guard soldiers wearing shemaghs (those pattern scarves)? The reason soldiers in the Middle East wear them is because it keeps them cool, covers them from dust, and allows them to blend in a little. There is absolutely no reason a National Guard soldier who was just called up from his home is going to be wearing one unless he is trying to cosplay.

There's some hint that they had an idea what they wanted to do with it. They just failed miserably.
Yeah, I mean, I hate that this game is so awfull cause the idea that flies over it is so freaking good. You are just another pawn of G-Man, and, in principle, this is really well thought out (VERY in principle, as in practice this becomes a horrendous shitshow). There is something... so intersting in here, and it's implemented SO FUCKING AWFULLY. It annoys me, to see such a good idea wasted, and the fact that for whatever reason this shitshow got to the point of being sold in Steam... why?.
It's like Sonic Forces. There is a good story idea at it's core, but the problems, bad writing and incompetence butchered things so badly that it makes the core idea look bad too. Except, y'know, Forces's story is actually salvagable with some thought, but to save HDTF you'd have to rip out the entire story, progression and characters, then establish new ones and redevelop the whole thing based on the same core premise.

You know what would've been great when you had the turret gun? You start looking like you have a chance to win...And then a combine air vehicle comes over, obliterates absolutely everyone. You barely survive. It would show that the combine consider even their own units to be completely disposable, and that they consider carpet bombing a reasonable solution to even the smallest amount of resistance.
That would also give a pathetic excuse for why they decide to drop a hundred headcrabs on you in the sewer place area. Just dump bodies and ordnance on humanity until they give up, which they do after 7 hours. It fits. Too bad no one on the dev team knows what "subtlety" means.
That would've been so much better. I'm imagining some big, flashy energy weapon turning the whole area into a crater. And then (as somebody in another comment said), you're forced to switch to sneaking through alleys and keeping your head down.

I love that the entire basis of this plot and Mitchell’s angst is Mitchell is salty he got beaten by a Black Mesa scientist who dared to defend himself. And that Gman somehow knew that Mitchell was such a petulant egotist that he could use this to manipulate him.
I think the only decent piece of writing this game had was Mitchell letting go and not caring about his "promise" that he made 20 years earlier. Also on that same note why would G-man send him to kill Gordon before the citadel collapsed? Since that's when he went rogue.
@@TheMasterUnity Because the "epic twist" is that G-Man didn't want Gordon killed but rather it was a whole conspiracy to frame Mitchell for killing that guy's daughter so the Combine would be distracted fighting his forces and make things easier for Gordon. Note that this could've been achieved by having someone, anyone (not necessarily Mitchell) form a private army and then just telling them to fight the Combine. Also why the Combine would care so much about the death of the daughter of one of their human minions is never answered.
I want to believe that Mitchell getting a wrench instead of a crowbar early on was symbolic and foreshadowing of him being Adrian's brother, but I also don't have enough confidence in the idea that this games director could intentionally add anything subtly symbolic-

I only get lost on occasion. I've played Half Life and Black Mesa so many times that I don't tend to get lost, but I always remember that this series is like a train. It can only go forward and backward because the train is On A Rail (literally)
the half life series never explicitly tells you where to go, but the level design funnels you towards where ur supposed to go by blocking off routes and having the characters give u hints on what to do
Lighting! All Half Life games starting from 2 almost always have lighting that points you in the intended direction, and this game seems to treat lighting very casually and it only favors getting lost
This whole game is just an example of poor communication. The level designers had little to go on, the people that set up the gunplay weren't told the types of enemies the player was going to fight, the people setting up the enemies weren't told what kind of gunplay there was going to be, the voice actors weren't given instructions on how to deliver their lines... The game feels like a series of good ideas that were all spoiled by not making any sense with each other.
Dude. Why the hell does the main character look like an 11 year old designed him? He has a comical amount of scars on his face. It doesn't even look cool, it looks ridiculous.

Anyway, I got up and saw my friend overwhelmed by zombies. He had no chance to get away and he knew it, so he pulled the pin from the grenade, and, would you guess it, a shrapnel right in my face, that's this second scar. Wait, where are you going? I've got 20 more!!!"
Here's how you fix the HDTF story; Mitchell initially believes that Gordon Freeman intentionally Unleashed hell and doomed the world for no obvious reason. Mitchell slowly but surely pieces together that Gordon is guilty of nothing more than being late to work and by the time he's fully realized that, the G-Man calls in the favor and points out that his crew will certainly die if he does not risk them in war hunting down the Freeman. It will at least be a little bit less stupid, if not fix pretty much everything.
It also might’ve been more interesting if Mitchell was a security guard instead of H.E.C.U. That would allow for some downtime stuff like the first half life and might explain why he could blame Gordon for trying to sabotage the machine.
That makes a whole lot of sense. Some dialogue between HECU in Half-Life imply that they thought the Black Mesa scientists caused the Resonance Cascade on purpose. And with how quickly the HECU responded to the incident, it even sounds like the top brass in the HECU was waiting for something to happen - to give them an excuse to take over Black Mesa. And when they failed, they sent in the Black Ops because "we made a mess and we need to clean it all up."
Oh god I just noticed that Mitchell's gloves change depending on what weapon your holding. Pulse Rifle and Scorpion he's wearing the tan leather gloves from his post Venom Snake ripp off. But if you equip an older weapons he's suddenly wearing military camp gear again! Fucks were at minus 20 weren't they?

"This game has no restraint." I can't remember where, but isn't there developer commentary in one of the half life 2 episodes where developers talk about newbie designers throwing everything and the kitchen sink into the levels? This game is the definition of that issue. We can't have a pit with a few headcrabs, no, it's gotta be a pit with 30 headcrabs. We can' t have a few combine soldiers blocking your way. It's gotta be a dozen or so, so tightly packed like the designer put them there with a single brush stroke. A few Zombies? Boring! How about 50? There is almost no proper design in the encounters, so the developers just throws in more and more enemies. It reeks of hobbyists first mod to boot. How did this get published? This must be valve's revenge for all the half life 3 jokes.

They should've kept this as an SFM short film. The gameplay tries to emulate a movie scene too often instead of making an intuitive experience. They clearly had members on the team more comfortable with SFM than game development, the animation was alright overall in my opinion. They were too ambitious turning this into a game.
I've said this before, but I can't help but wonder if their thought process was "It's a lot easier to get people to pay money for a game than a machinima."
I have seen every HDTF review multiple times and the fact no other one mentions a "Cheeky Medkit Boy" stealing a medkit from the middle of a hallway in a hospital automatically disqualifies any contender from taking the videos crown as the definitive video on HDTF.
Wait wait wait...how did Mitchell get in a hospital after he's fucked up by "Gordon" if Black Mesa was nuked? And they even put Adrian in the game, so OF is canon to HDTF story
Maybe he's carried out by HECU medics? Opposing Force showed HECU soldiers evacuating on ospreys so it's entirely possible he was found and evacuated. Why he was brought to a random civilian hospital is another quesiton. Eugh, defending this terrible game's terrible plot makes me feel dirty.
@LOAN NGUYEN To be fair Gman is the Combine equivalent to lower middle management. I mean who did he have to piss off to get stuck with earth duty? It's the equivalent to someone who went to school to become a bank branch manager getting stuck managing a backwoods McDonald's rip off store. So he probably doesn't give to much of a shit.
@LOAN NGUYEN As a poor person I have yet to be able to play Alyx. But given what we have seen he just seams like a manager with a few planets under his belt.
I think what bothers me more than anything about this game's 'story' is the ending speech. How in the hell do Mitchell and the Cubic Zirconium Dingoes know about the Borealis? Gordon and company didn't learn about it until Episode 2.
The combat in this game feels like if you installed a bunch of combat mods into garrys mod, then spawned in a bunch of half life 2 enemies in a hall, and started shooting.
Do you know how a bunch of people say that Valve doesn't want to make Half Life 3 because they're afraid that if it isn't perfect, Half Life fans will go nuts and send death threats and commit terrorist attacks in the name of Gordon Freeman or whatever? I think Hunt Down The Freeman was made to tell Valve "Y'know, however bad you decide to make Half Life 3, it couldn't be as bad as this even if you tried."

Sorry to necro this, but I think it's safe to say that Boris and Dr. Breen would have known about "Black Mesa East" from Sasha, since she had infiltrated the Resistance forces and was feeding them information from within.
It's not about whether they know of it being referred to as Black Mesa East, it's that "Black Mesa East" wouldn't mean anything to anyone who isn't already privy to that information, such as our fearless protagonist Mitchell here.

How is it exactly that you believe that it is possible to "betray" an enemy, unless you count the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima after Japan was already pretty much beaten? We couldn't let Russia win the war, and that would make America look bad, so the US dropped the nukes, and the rest is history. That's as close to betraying an enemy as this world has ever seen. The term "betrayal" literally means throwing away your loyalty to your friends, unit or organization. Name one situation where an enemy could be betrayed. In order for someone to be betrayed, that person must first trust you. I dunno why this is such a hard thing for you to understand. For example, if you were gonna "betray" me, as someone you don't even know, how would you do it? I'm just curious about your thought-process at this point. It's such a simple concept, yet you seem to be having difficulties comprehending it. It's fascinating. Considering that that guy from Metro Last Light (which is where I'm haphazardly assuming you got this idea from) was a spy all along. He was never one of them, therefore he didn't betray anyone. He was never on their side. He was just doing his job, which was to infiltrate the enemy by any means. It's a shitty job full of psychos and sadists, but it's still a job. Betrayal would have been if he turned on his true masters and told the Spartans that he was a spy or tried to go all Double-Agent with his shit.
Let's not forget Adam took 5 magnum rounds and was somehow both able to stand and not pass out from blood loss long enough for Mitch to put out his one-liner

30:30 Honestly I think the introduction of Colonel Cue is the best moment in this game. The story opens the same way opposing force does, with their osprey being shot down from the sky before they can receive their orders. Mitchell wakes up at around the time of “On a rail” separated from Nick and Adam. Mitchell wanders around for a bit before finding HECU and Scientist corpses killed by the aliens, and finally joins back with Adam and Nick. None of them received their orders, so they all agree to look for survivors and get info on what happened. Unfortunately the first person they find is Gordon. Nick begins to ask Gordon about what happened, but Gordon guns him down, with Mitchell and Adam just barely escaping. Both of them recover and mourn Nick. Adam incorrectly deduces that they’re here to save scientists from the aliens, and wonders why Gordon would kill Nick. Mitchell thinks that the scientists are trying to cover something up, so Adam suggests that they capture and interrogate Gordon. Mitchell disagrees saying they should kill Gordon but goes along with it anyways. Adam tracks Gordon through his HEV suit, and hides out in a room with a charger and medical station. Gordon walks into the room and Mitchell and Adam knock him unconscious(Cutscene from “Apprehension”). Adam wants to take Gordon to the surface to question him, but Mitchell insists that they just kill him. Mitchell eventually convinces Adam that Gordon is a threat and needs to be disposed of, so the two of them throw Gordon into the trash compactor. However before they can ensure Gordon is going to die, more aliens show up and Adam and Mitchell are separated again. Mitchell begins looking for Adam, and finds HECU corpses with bullet wounds, increasing his anger towards Gordon. Mitchell fights through Black Mesa and finds fellow HECU soldiers talking about how Gordon is killing marines. The amount of aliens they begin seeing increases slowly before they start being overrun. Mitchell and his team receive orders to forget about freeman and leave the facility. Mitchell and co begin moving to a evacuation site before being attacked by Gordon again, and kills everyone one by one. As Mitchell lays dying on the ground he does his usual speech of swearing revenge on Gordon, before being knocked out. Mitchell wakes up barely alive and alone, being abandoned. He hears a nuclear siren going off and begins desperately trying to escape Black Mesa. As he finds an exit, the PA system counts down from 10. Mitchell lies down and accepts his fate, but then time stops. G-Man appears and informs him that he is interested in Mitchell’s tenacity and will to survive. G-Man then offers Mitchell a job, saying that he will get to hunt down Freeman. Seeing this as a better alternative to being obliterated in a nuclear explosion, Mitchell accepts and is placed in stasis.
I know this is late, but there's some crucial **LORE** pieces that should be brought up, especially when they're relevant to the gameplay. 1: If Mitchell is supposed to be an HECU... Shouldn't he have a PCV? It was **HEAVILY** established in Half-Life Opposing Force that the PCV was a **CRUCIAL** part of the HECU... And it was supposed to be an equivalent of Gordon's HEV Suit. So WHY was it NOT here, in all sections of the game: Black Mesa, The 7 Hour War, (Both Black Mesa and the 7 Hour War where MITCHELL STILL WEARS HIS UNIFORM.) AND The years worth of Time-Jumps. There's literally no reason to NOT have it, and the entirety of the Gameplay has been NEEDLESSLY changed and practically BUTCHERED for NO REASON. 2: Why are the Vortigaunts Hostile during the 7 Hour War? I thought it was firmly established in both Half-Life and Half-Life 2 that the Vortigaunts were **ENSLAVED** and **FORCED** into fighting by the Nihinalith. (Not sure how to spell it, so bear with me.) There's no reason for the Vortigaunts to fight you during the 7 Hour War, because they're free. Species X couldn't have done it because Adrian put a stop to them. The Combine **MIGHT** be responsible... But there's no explanation! These 2 points feel rather crucial to Half-Life... And are given no explanation and are either pointless, or meant to make it harder. Ridiculous.
Not really. Op4 is semi-canon, and it makes perfect sense for scared and angry Vorts to kill some loud assholes, especially if they were killing them before and said Vortigaunts are, let's say, racists or extreme Nihilists. You can come up with most things to make them hostile after Half-Life 1.
The developers didn't establish it as it would've taken work and effort into developing actual game mechanics that would be helful to the gameplay and would also honor the original games and even DLC's design. two things which this game doesnt do.
Not really relevant to the point, at all, but it did remind me: I _ do_ like how Black Mesa not only redesigned Xen, but how it made the Vort's slavery that much more apparent, and how it makes you (or tries to make you) sympathetic; granted, it's still based on, and true to, the original, so you can just kill them all to your heart's content, but still. Very nice touch. If none of you have played Black Mesa, it's $20 - and it's definitely worth it.
Most videos I've seen of Hunt Down The Freeman are just tearing it apart because it is such obvious garbage. You're the first I've seen to dissect it and show why it is such absolute dogshit. A difficult thing to even articulate for such a horrible game... I have never seen a single other person even point out the deal with the devil/G-man nonsense because the game is so bad they don't even notice! I sure didn't. XD In fact your analyzing of the game has convinced me that Hunt Down the Freeman has some of the worst video game writing I have ever seen, maybe even the worst... It is so amateurish, so badly done and presented, so unintuitive and requiring logic leaps and knowing what convoluted things the writer himself was thinking.
One video I saw was made by someone who did voice acting in this game. They gave the developers a heads up that they were going to make a video about the flaws with the game. They said not to make the video because they were apparently working on a major update that would fix all the problems but obviously that update never came
What I really dislike about G-Man's speeches in HDTF, aside of how poorly written they are, is that they're too on the nose. What makes the G-Man terrifying is that he masks any sort of dishonesty and secrecy with various appraisals. He will congratulate you on something without ever elaborating. This speech, on the other hand, is G-Man speech more or less boils down to "your edgy speech was so cool, I just had to approach you after today's debate club." I'm not gonna claim my alternate G-Man monologue is superior in terms of writing, but I feel like this better captures G-Man's character and what makes him such a sinister figure. "Sergeant Mitchell Shepherd... t-teetering on the line between life and death. I would like to congratulate you on surviving such a... cataclysm. Of course, I also mourn the loss of your, heh, brothers... Such tragedy was unavoidable. Your... tenacity was most impressive, even in the face of... e-eradication. It did not go unnoticed by those in... higher places. Though your c-conviction cannot be fulfilled, yet... you will be compensated for your services. Should you accept the position, we will allow you time that otherwise would have been... cut short. Consider it an upfront payment. Otherwise, well... I will leave without much fuss. Your choice, Sergeant."
What bothers me is that G-Man has never really struck me as a planner. He's not some future-predicting chess player who can guess everything that will happen in 20 years time. He's more of an opportunist. He picks up Gordon Freeman and Adrian Shepherd because he sees them survive against the odds and tucks them away for later use. At most, he steps in and tweaks things to make sure Freeman's limited role plays out optimally.
There are so many questions concerning this game's plot, but I want to zero in on one in particular. Why did Mitchell need to run around City 17, dodging Combine, if his entire purpose was to make a deal with them? Why didn't he walk up to the nearest Combine soldier and say, "Hey, I'm the leader of an army of soldiers, interested in joining the Combine, in exchange for ensuring the safety and good treatment of my men. I would like to negotiate with Doctor Breen, or someone empowered to make deals on his behalf"? Even if they Combine grunts just waved him off, it would give a good _reason_ why Mitchell then needed to run around trying to reach someone important. It would have given the player some kind of direction.
Also, why would the combine accept them? They have THOUSANDS of elite and expert soldiers with no memories of the past, ready to die for the combine. But no, we need some human soldiers with only HECU unit training.
Marley But why not convert them? They are all loyal to Michel, not the combine. So why not turn them into combine soldiers? They’d be more loyal to the combine and wouldn’t rebel if Michel decided to go against them.
I nearly worked on this game as an animator. I come back to this video every now and then to remind myself that I dodged a massive fucking bullet

LMAO true!
This made me realize something. The idea that both Shepherds would be deployed to Black Mess doesn’t really add up because I believe there is a doctrine in the US military to put siblings into separate units to remove possible complications.
@@mysteryman4915 But Mitchell changed the rules lol.
... He works a 9-5 office job for 2 years, becomes severely depressed, kills himself, revives himself (Because he has G-mans powers.), revives G-man to work for Steve, G-man kills Steve, Alex kills G-man, THEN.....
This game makes me feel like I just booted up Gmod, got into a big ass map and just spawned some enemies while imagining a story as I roam around.

I’ll have my totally justified revenge!”
10/10 script
TBH that doesnt sound all that unrealistical, i had many people swear revenge on me for defending myself from their attacks
The entire point of them slaughtering the Black Mesa personnel was to try and cover up the incident...

To expand on the "G-Man isn't supposed to be this omniscient" point from a better informed angle:
If you look past his cryptic wording and behaviour, G-Man is a pretty straightforward employer in the official games.

I love that the entire basis of this plot and Mitchell’s angst is Mitchell is salty he got beaten by a Black Mesa scientist who dared to defend himself.

I want to believe that Mitchell getting a wrench instead of a crowbar early on was symbolic and foreshadowing of him being Adrian's brother, but I also don't have enough confidence in the idea that this games director could intentionally add anything subtly symbolic-
No clue how the people who made this managed to scrounge up the mental capacity to be able to have basic subtlety.

It will at least be a little bit less stupid, if not fix pretty much everything.

The only part of this game that I like is how much “Gordon Freeman” fucking demolishes Mitchell. That actually felt pretty realistic to the Half-Life games, in a moment you are knocked back, the only bullet you fire basically reflects off of the HEV suit, and in seconds you’re defeated.
Wait if they knew about the oceans being drained why was their endgame to be on a boat
To be fair, there's a _lot_ of ocean. It would take the Combine a while to get rid of _all_ of it. "The oceans are gonna be taken away" barely registers on that plan's list of problems...
1:01:40 I only then noticed that when holding the rifle you wear gray gloves, but switch to orange gloves for everything else.
This is actually amazing.
Not trying to defend the game or anything but when Mitchell was in the caves he was in a different outfit compared to him when the pumpkin headed combine invaded Earth.
@@xVelvetri
Yes, but after the 20 year time-jump, Mitchell no longer uses his H.E.C.U. uniform, the problem here is that they didn't bother to update the viewmodels for weapons featured before the time-jump, so he still has his H.E.C.U. uniform gloves on with some weapons...
The Seven Hour War should be its own game. I mean it could literally be a seven hour game and anybody complaining will be seen as insane.
Like you have a seven hour time limit to beat it or at least do as much as you can.

No
Or a coop game where you escape Black Mesa, with a selection of roles and equipment to start with.
I’ve decided to write a better story for HDTF cuz why not:
Mitchell is still part of HECU, however Adam and Nick are both are HECU too instead of black ops or national guard.
Ooh, very good job! I like the twist of being the two soldiers what toss Gordon in the trash and why they couldnt stick around and make sure he died.
Maybe (in this version) he took Mitchell as a failsafe if Gordon ever decided to disobey him?
Peak.
I keep forgetting that the entirety of HDTF is badly written Fanfiction.
Also how does Mitchell know about the Borealis
XD
In fact your analyzing of the game has convinced me that Hunt Down the Freeman has some of the worst video game writing I have ever seen, maybe even the worst...
They said not to make the video because they were apparently working on a major update that would fix all the problems but obviously that update never came
@@mrrexychomp9829 thats the walking furry tv guy, and also they did release the "fix" but it wasnt enough to outweigh the bads
@@FadleLight still on the furry shit yeah?
What I really dislike about G-Man's speeches in HDTF, aside of how poorly written they are, is that they're too on the nose. What makes the G-Man terrifying is that he masks any sort of dishonesty and secrecy with various appraisals. He will congratulate you on something without ever elaborating. This speech, on the other hand, is G-Man speech more or less boils down to "your edgy speech was so cool, I just had to approach you after today's debate club."
I'm not gonna claim my alternate G-Man monologue is superior in terms of writing, but I feel like this better captures G-Man's character and what makes him such a sinister figure.
That’s a lot better than what we got
What bothers me is that G-Man has never really struck me as a planner. He's not some future-predicting chess player who can guess everything that will happen in 20 years time. He's more of an opportunist. He picks up Gordon Freeman and Adrian Shepherd because he sees them survive against the odds and tucks them away for later use. At most, he steps in and tweaks things to make sure Freeman's limited role plays out optimally.
That speech is way better.
@@littlefieryone2825 Hell, his inability to predict everything is what makes it possible to revive Alyx in Episode 2 to begin with.

Marley that’s my opinion, though. I don’t mean to offend.
