I feel bad for Halle, she shouldn’t be getting any hate. She’s beautiful and has an amazing voice. She’s a real life princess. It’s not her fault the movie looks really bad with the cgi, lighting, beloved characters like Flounder, Ursula, Scuttle, etc. That’s on disney to blame. Even if the movie flops, I hope she still gets her big check because she’s honestly the only good thing about this movie.

She is such a good-natured, gentle, sweet girl! She has the innocence, beauty, and talent of being Ariel while remaining humble. I think her casting was perfect. I’m glad Disney is showing the world diversity with this character. It’s a shame all the negativity she’s facing 😢

Halle Bailey likes the animated Little Mermaid film? Great! This makes her the opposite of Rachel Zegler when she talks about Snow White.
I don't blame them too much because most of the time they race-swap a character not because it's the best casting but because they are looking to fulfill a political agenda, BUT....
Having said that, I saw half of the movie with Halle as Ariel and I'm sold - her voice alone was reason enough to cast her as Ariel. There are a few minor drawbacks, like cartoon Ariel is more bubbly and fun while Halle's Ariel's manners are all very "guarded", like she moves very slow and keeps her head low, making it look like she's very cautious, but overall they are just minor things, her song scenes were amazing, her singing voice gives me goose bumps. Great casting - I feel like this one was not just about a "race-swap", she is just a good fit, period.
Who could hate on her? She is like sunshine.

Honestly, they should have had Halle to write a song which relates to her character, her and Chloe wrote warrior for a wrinkle in time, they were about 16 and 18 and it was perfect, they wrote it in about 3 hours. She would have created a much better sing for Ariel.

Fun fact she & Chloe also wrote the theme song for Grownish which is short but fit perfectly for that’s series & Halle is in the upcoming remake of color purple & wrote songs for that as well. So I agree she’s a very talented musician.

I appreciate that her makeup is not too overdone. Very soft and elegant. It is a relief that makeup is becoming more subtle.

@@21188 hi, yeah she is not exactly like the animated character. But what matter is that the actress does a good job bringing the character truly alive, and thats what she does for me. I have seen some adaptations of books where they choose for looks only and destroy the character (sometimes the person can't even act well). Here we're lucky to have a true talent, and even the hopefull essence Ariel has 💙

This woman can do podcast, and I swear, I will listen to it every day. Her voice and her aura is really giving me comfort, calmness, and peace. Such an amazing person.
I just saw the new little mermaid and I loved her as Ariel. Sure she doesn't have white skin and bright red hair, but her voice is phenomenal (singing wise but her speaking voice is also very soothing) and I loved her acting too. Ariel has been my favorite disney princess when I was little too, and I would pretend to be a mermaid while swimming even though I suck at swimming haha. Her talking about the physical side to training paid off cause her had ABS in the movie and I was so impressed

I haven't watched the movie yet. However I decided to be here because I just came across her interview at the red carpet or somewhat that actually made me to be fond of this girl in an instant. I saw this movie two days ago and it was good. She was a good Ariel and I’m happy for her that she got to portray the role of her favorite princess. Why everyone nailed it as the roles they were given, especially Javier Bardem as he did in other movies like Skyfall and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales. Not to mention working with actors like Daniel Craig and Johnny Depp.
