Ink of the year for me has to be an underrated one, in my opinion, Hongdian bluish-gray. It was a gift from a Mystery Santa event at my place of work/school, and I have to say I love it. its my go-to ink if I need to write anything academic-related. As someone who's still fairly new to this hobby and community, I've enjoyed my journey so far. I just got myself a fourth entry-level pen, the Lamy Safri, and I was surprised how differently the nid felt with that pen. Ive noticed I enjoy being able to write with two different line weights with one pen by flipping the nib over as I write. Runner Up: Diamine Writers Blood
Thank you for the in depth explanations on why you chose the winners for each category. There are so many pens I haven’t heard about before that I’m so excited to read about now! My most used pen this year has been the Kaweco sport. I love small pocket pens that fit into a small pouch. I’ve been carrying my Kaweco Sport on so many trips to write about my adventures. Thank you again!
Love the hat you’re wearing! The nutsac admin pouch looks incredible. I didn’t realize they made backpacks, they may be worth checking. My favorite notebook of the year is the Galen Leather Everyday notebook. 400 pages of amazing paper.
Nice video! Love your pen choices and your enthusiasm when talking about pens. The best notebook of the year for me was the Midori notebook, love them! ;)
Love the custom paint job on the pen -- I may have to steal that. :) Ink of the year for me would be writer's blood. I realize it wasn't released this year, but my wife and I have been trying many, many inks this year and I keep coming back to the blood.
I loved this video idea and your categories! My best notebook of the year for me is a leather cover from Popov in English Tan that holds my hobonichi with reading notes.
My most used ink of the year is Pelikan 4001 Turquoise. It's just so reliable and beautiful. I've started to use it as my test ink. It's not too wet and not too dry.
My grail of the year was my first Pelikan ever...the m600 Glauco Cambon I never thought I'd own a gold-nibbed Pelikan, but it was half off retail so I jumped at it! Part of me regrets I didn't wait until now since it's even cheaper, but I don't regret getting the pen...it's so gorgeous and a lovely writer!
My most used pen is actually faber Castel grip 2011 blue. The nib is unexpectedly smooth. It takes in most kinds of cartridges and would not dry out even if I accidentally leave the cap opened for an hour.
Oh... Oh wow, that Nahvalur pen is *gorgeous*! I'm very new to fountain pens, like, I have a Preppy and Lamy AL-Star, and that's it, so I guess my category will be journals, since I've a LOT more of those, haha. I've an 8-inch lined, forest green Graphique journal I've been testing my pens in and it takes the ink well. Only a little bit of feathering if I let the pen linger in one spot too long. The covers are paper-lined leather and it's spiral-bound, so it's flexible and pleasant to hold. I am currently filling it with notes on types of fountain pens, inks, and papers/journals to look into, and now I've added Nahvalur to the list.
Ink of the Year has got to be the humble Pilot Blue Black. I am still new to fountain pens and I use them for general note taking and journaling so a standard, inexpensive blue black ink has been the most used ink for me. But 2025 might be the year when I get more adventurous ink wise.
My most used pen of the year is my Pilot E95s so I’m sure that you can understand my affinity for the Monteverde Dakota. Nice custom paint job! I’m also getting one of those nutsac admin pouches! This is the first video of yours that I’ve found. I subscribed so I get future vids and am now going to dive into your past vids. Merry Christmas.🎄
Congratulations on surpassing 8.82k friendlies! Awesome to watch your channel, great content! My grail pen would be Nahvalur Original Plus Nebulosa Laguna fountain pen. Merry Christmas and best wishes
Most used pen, by far, has been my red Sailor Tuzu, which also gives me my most used ink, Diamine Oxblood, because it's almost always been filled with that.
Really cool story on getting that Leonardo. I'd love to win that Monteverde Dakota, or the Narwhal. Love pocket pens, but that Navalur is stunning. My most used ink would have to be Diamine Writers Blood, with Monteverde Jade Noir being a close runner up. Both just speak to me for some reason. My "Pen of The Year" would have to be my Platinum Preppy. I'm 41 now, used a fountain pen once for a report in elementary school. I wanted to start using cursive again, as I've been doing nothing but block printing for the last 25 years. SO, I thought a fountain pen would force better technique to improve my penmanship, so I ordered a Preppy in April. I went from messing around to journaling daily, and acquiring several (albeit cheap) fountain pens. Not only has my penmanship improved as I had hoped, but my mental health has as well with beginning journaling. Playing with the couple dozen ink samples I've ordered and learning nib tuning, and vintage pens, all can be attributed to that $4 Preppy.
My best pen for 2024 is the Penider Full Metal Jacket with a 14k quill nib. The nib is so smooth juicy and bouncy and gives you a totally unique writing experience . Ever since I purchased this pen in March of this year, it has been inked continuously. I am also not afraid to put high maintenance shimmer or sheen inks since it can be cleaned easily. My best pen for the year …
My ink of the year is Pelikan Edelstein Golden Lapis. While it is not the most practical ink for everyday, it is marvelous for cards. I used it for my holiday cards this year, and I'm thinking I might do the same next year.
Grail pen would be the Pilot e95s. My first gold nib. Most used is my Travelers Brass fountain pen in factory green. I carry this thing everywhere and use it almost every day. Your doing a great job. Keep it up.
I really enjoyed your video and all the interesting categories that you came up with. My personal winner for the Most Used Pen this year is the Lamy 2000 with a Medium nib. The story behind it is that I bought it second-hand at the DC Pen Show last August, after some hesitation. I'm glad I did, though, because it's become a favorite and it's always inked up. It's a wonderful writer. I look forward to more of your videos.
My favorite video was the Monteverde Dakota. I like this brand and was taken by this new small pen. The video sold me on this pen. I was also surprised by the attractiveness of the Opus 88 Mini based on the close-up photos which look much better than the photos I see on the retail sites. So, this may need to be on my 2025 wish list.
My vote goes to the Grail Pen of the Year, the Leonardo Juma Dragon. Didn’t even know that pen existed until this video and wow that thing is beautiful. Personally I picked up one of my own grail pens this year the Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Age and I have been loving every minute of it. Already subscribe to goldspot and I just subscribed to Yafa (who doesn’t love another fountain pen channel to follow? Ha ha ha). Thanks for all the videos and all your hard work. Love the channel and keep it up!
My grail pen for this year is the Leonardo Momento Magico in Pietra Salata. I typically try not to spend at most $150 for pens, but I loved that color way ever since I saw Helen from the Coffee Monsterz Co get hers with a gold nib; I got mine with a steel nib, but I am still super happy.
Love your videos and the back story on your Leonardo grail pen was awesome and exactly what this community is about! Thanks for another opportunity to win something!! 😊
My grail pen is in the mail as I type. It’s the Pelikan M600 Art Collection - Glaucoma Cambon Special Edition. I had seen a video about it but that didn’t do it justice. So much better in real life. But sadly every time I was in a position to get, no one had them. But last week AtlasStationers listed it again at a considerable discount plus another percentage off for Christmas…..an offer I couldn’t refuse! It is my late Christmas/early birthday present to myself!
I could not find the Esterbrook Cobalt that you referenced. What is the complete name? Also, I look forward to future videos on your first Opus 88. I find my Opus 88 Koloro and an good writer and very dependable, so I will be interested to know if you find the mini is as reliable and is the mini size pleasant to use for more than short writing sessions.
My pen of the year is the Sailor Pro Gear Slim Sunlight from the Ocean Floor. Its so stunning and I had wanted it since I first saw it in the summer and I finally got it when endlesspens had their black Friday sale. I could not be happier with it. Its also my first pen over $100.
My most used pen/daily driver is a wingsung with an hooded nib, the nib is an F but unexpectedly smooth. My grail pen is a recently acquired vintage pelikan m400
*NOT A Giveaway Entry* This is a great end of year wrap up and I hope that more channels follow your lead. Esterbrook is one of my favourite pens (I have an Estie - Honeycomb with a Kirk Speer Needle Point, because I am smudger as well). However the most enjoyable category was your Grail Pen. Hearing your experience of your Leonardo Juma Dragon was really extraordinary - congratulations on getting that pen and also on the success of your channel. Thank you so much for all of the great content this year.
For me the best pen would be the pilot custom 743 with the FA nib.. it’s flex and can be used as your daily writer and it’s easy to clean and change inks easily. Next would be travellers notebook passport size, pen case would be from rickshaw. Ink would be Kobe ink No42.
My personal pen case of the year is a Nock Co Seed in peacock. I just got into the hobby this year and I found reviews for really cool products from Nock Co... and then realized they are out of business. I resigned myself to not being able to have one. But then someone on the Pen_Swap subreddit listed not only a Nock Co case but my first choice for model and color! It's a combo pen/notebook case. I feel lucky to have found it and I'm enjoying using it for my daily record of cute things my 3 year old says.
My most used notebook is a TN style notebook that I made myself in size similar to passport. It's been a project from last year that I didn't finish because I've order the wrong size elastic few times and forgot about that...
My favourite case is the Galen Leather 12 pen case, My ink of the hear is Taccia Navy Jeans (a terrific shader) and My Grail Pen is Pilot Custom Urushi in vermillion.
My favorite new pen of the year is my Lamy 2000. I don’t think I would like it as much as I do! It’s also my most used pen along with my sailor pro gear imperial black.
I love your list of award winners! My top award for pen case of the year is Rickshaw Bags - anything from them is so well built. I love my 3 pen cases and the pouches. And, anything pen from Esterbrook or Leonardo is nice. Happy Holidays!
I love your hat! That’s all I wanted to say. Now that I’m here, though-Congratulations on your channel and good luck to your subscribers on the giveaway’s. Happy Holidays! ❤
Forgive me but I need to create my own category which I will call the love-hate pin of the year. That goes to the Monteverdi MP 1. I absolutely love every single thing about this pen and if not my most used it is certainly within the top three. I got it with a stub nib and it writes beautifully in every way. HOWEVER, it takes over three full turns to remove the cap! That is so absolutely annoying for me. So you have a near perfect pen with one fatal flaw. Oh well. Back to the drawing board Monteverdi! Lol
My best gift pen of the year would be the Lamy AlStar my daughter got me for Father’s Day, I use it daily clipped to my lanyard badge and think of her.
I really like the Esterbrook Cobalt as your best gift. It is such a great resin. As for ink, I have been enjoying purple this year. I just got the Diamine Purple Bow. I was looking for a vibrant ink that dries quickly, being left handed like you. And yes I subscribe to Goldspot and Yafa. I have bought a number of pens from them over the years from both companies. I have put the MP1on my list to get. Here's to hoping.
My grail pen and favorite pen I now own is definitely my Benu AstroGem Leto. It's a lovely graphite and black with swirls of silvery shimmer with bold green trim sparkles. :D
My most used ink of the year is Colorverse Schrodinger. My pen case of the year is the Retro 51 X Rickshaw Bagworks Simple 6-Pen Hand Roll - Fire & Dice 2e: Fighter
My favorite case is Girologio but I just got a Rickshaw and it is lovely. My favorite pen is the Pilot 912 FA because it’s fun! Thanks for the giveaways!
Ok ok, I turned on my notifications and I’ll be checking in on my phone so it’s less likely I’ll miss anything. I’ll say my ink of the year is Endless Alchemy Golden Sunburst. I love the way it looks when I use it with a stub nib. Again thanks for the great videos and here’s to continued success in 2025!
My most used pen this year is my Benu Euphoria Earl Gray. Got it in broad and it’s delightful to write with (and look at). Thanks for the video and the giveaways!
My Lamy 2000 is the absolute winner in multiple categories: It’s my best purchase, most expensive pen I’ve ever owned; and the most used pen. Looking forward to the draw, and wishing you a happy new year!
My grail pen of the year? A Benu Euphoria on sale for $99!!! A limited edition! A $10 reverse grind! A personally handwritten letter from Kirk Spears!!!! Christmas Twinkle limited edition. The number on the pen matched the number of my street address! This pen gives me so much joy!!! BTW, loved watching this! Congratulations on your channel!
What a great video! I’m glad I found this channel. What a generous giveaway as well. Any of those pens would be a great addition to start building my collection in earnest. 😊 My most used ink is Waterman Serenity blue. It’s been a good starter ink and I’m excited to learn more about ink next year. Most used pen this year is probably my Kaweco Sport that I lucked up finding at a thrift store.
My winner for Pen Design is the Esterbrook Estie King of the Night. Immediately fell in love with the pen when it was announced and it looks even better in person.
My Grail Of The Year is the Leonardo Momento Zero Blue Hawaii, which I got myself to mark a special occasion :) And my Ink Of The Year is Waterman Tender Purple Good luck everyone and happy holidays! 🎄🎁
My ink of the year has to be Colorverse Comet Sl9 it's currently my favorite brown, and have yet to find a brown I like more. It's a shame I need to buy the bundle even time and only get 15ml
My winner for best gift this year goes to the Sailor 1911L I received in the reddit secret santa. It has been absolutely perfect for me with the sizing and I love the unique feedback.
Other honorable runner ups below:
Underdog Pen: Visconti Mythos Poseidon
Pen Design: Diplomat Viper
Fun Pen: Custom Highlander Edinburgh
Grail: Leonardo Rainbow Ice Candy
Ink Yoseka Confetti Blue
Pen Case: Yuruliku 3 Pen Case

Nice video! Love your pen choices and your enthusiasm when talking about pens. The best notebook of the year for me was the Midori notebook, love them!
;)
Love the custom paint job on the pen -- I may have to steal that. :)
Ink of the year for me would be writer's blood. I realize it wasn't released this year, but my wife and I have been trying many, many inks this year and I keep coming back to the blood.
The Juma Dragon in blue wins it for me. It looks like it rose out of the sea!

My ( one of them) grail pen would be the Asvine J 16 Titanium ! You had a great selection of pens, thanks for showing us them.
My favorite notebook/paper is the tried and true, Rhodia. Favorite ink is Waterman - Tender Purple, but also really like Serenity and Mysterious Blue.

The underdog pen I acquired this year is Majohn Q1. Weird shape, but exceptionally comfortable to write with.
My grail pen is of course the mont blanc 149, just such a good pen, on the expensive side though
My favorite notebook is not a notebook, but the custom leather B5 cover my husband gifted me this past fall.
Ink of the Year has got to be the humble Pilot Blue Black. I am still new to fountain pens and I use them for general note taking and journaling so a standard, inexpensive blue black ink has been the most used ink for me. But 2025 might be the year when I get more adventurous ink wise.

Enjoyed your categories and picks.
Best gift of the year: (actually 2 pens) Eureka Peek and Eureka Ultem fountain pens.

I hate the hat. I came here for pens, not fairy tales.

My Lamy 2000 is the absolute winner in multiple categories: It’s my best purchase, most expensive pen I’ve ever owned; and the most used pen. Looking forward to the draw, and wishing you a happy new year!
My vote is for the Dakota as the best new design. I have the exact same pen and it is a great pen.
My pen of the year is Asvine V200.
But I would love to try the Monteverde MP1.
My notebook of the year is the Leuchtturm1917 Ruled.
My most used ink is Waterman Serenity blue. It’s been a good starter ink and I’m excited to learn more about ink next year.
Most used pen this year is probably my Kaweco Sport that I lucked up finding at a thrift store.
For best new design i like the diplomat viper.
My winner for Pen Design is the Esterbrook Estie King of the Night. Immediately fell in love with the pen when it was announced and it looks even better in person.
My Grail Of The Year is the Leonardo Momento Zero Blue Hawaii, which I got myself to mark a special occasion :)
And my Ink Of The Year is Waterman Tender Purple
Good luck everyone and happy holidays! 🎄🎁
My grail pens of the year: Visconti Mirage Mythos Apollo and Montblanc 149! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
The Monteverde Dakota is the winner of this video for me. Love the Spitifre custom paint job.
My grail pen of the year was a platinum platinum
My most used pen os the lamy safari, just such a good pen 🖋️
I like the Highlander fountain pen.
My writer of the year is a pilot 742 with a FA nib. Absolutely wonderful to write with.
Does it have a hard flex or a soft flex, I kinda forgot
@ its very much a soft flex nib. I've heard the number 15 size FA nib is a bit harder, but the number 10 size on the 742 is very soft.
Leonardo MZ Grande 2.0 Galattica is my favourite pen.
Grail of the year: Kyuseido Kosumi . from Kyuseiko Pens (CY) in Tokyo.
I dig your cap. Reqlly cool!
Great giveaway! Grail pen would be goldspot nahvalur.
My most used pen was Nahvalur Asfur Bronze inked with Diamine Honey Burst. Awesome pen. Happy 2025!
My best gift would be the twisbi eco or diamond 580
My pen of the year would be the metropolitan, just the best starter pen
I don't own an Esterbrook fp so many people ❤them but my grail would be a Leonatdo.
