More people on my PSN playing black myth wukong than Astrobot right now. Interesting how games media have underestimated how much that game has resonated with the gaming audience.
You want this. The game isn't gonna sell more than 2 million copies and that's ain't enough for Sony or any other publisher. PEOPLE WANT COD, Fortnite, wukong, god of war when it comes to playstation. A game like Astrobot must be on Nintendo to sell well and satisfy the expectations.
Even if astro had been a miss (and it sounds like it's far from a miss), I would bet it cost much less to make than concord. Less cost means means less financial risk, and less financial risk means you can risk more on big creative swings.
Rebirth’s real completion will be Metaphor: Refantazio and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, in my opinion. But with Astro Bot, the Geoff Awards are definitely getting crowded.

No my biggest complaint form wukong was the silent protag, sun wukong is a witty shithead and we get to see the original be all badass and rude but we never get any sort of personality at all.
Its hilariously dumb because the controller isnt being shut down, the game is lol unless I misunderstood the situation and both are being removed? But even if both are being taken off shelves, Concord and the controller selling for as much as they are on ebay is just a sad move from scalpers.
I think the thing about Wukong is just the original story. Like people don’t understand that this is one of if not THE most influential story in human history. It’s also extremely influential especially in Japan. So not only are gamers more inclined to media (which would be influenced by the original) but they are also more inclined towards anime and jrpgs.
That's exactly why I'm surprised people are excited about the story. It's been used countless times already in games and anime. I learned about it when I watched Dragonball. When they announced Dark Myth, I assumed it was another generic action game reusing that myth for the millionth time. Just like the countless western movies that are metaphors for Jesus' rebirth.

Really? I have mostly casual gamer friends and work with a lot of strictly Warzone Apex type players. I had like one person on my friends list that was playing it Black Myth, compare that to College Football 25 which had like 40 people playing at any time.

The prob is only people with real interest for FF7 remake story will play rebirth. 10 of my friends who played remake on release, 7 have not touched rebirth yet mostly upset about how the game is not remake and split into 3 games. That explains the weaker sales for rebirth than remake....
@@trailvinzyl779 Greg played remake though. He didn’t have prior knowledge from the original. From what I remember, he said he liked it. Also that whole group of people crying it isn’t a 1:1 recreation of the original are crazy. We’re still getting all the iconic moments, but with even more.

A reminder that Blessing gave Elden Ring a 9 when he was several hours into it before changing it to a 10. Saying you're half way into the game is also probably not correct because 50% of Wukong is secret bosses and areas that 90% of ppl have missed on a first playthrough. IGN's reviewer Mitchel Saltzman who gave it an 8 said on Beyond! that he's doing a 2nd playthrough because he missed out on several secret bosses and locations he was unaware of and likes the game even more now. What's that mean for his 8 review? I beat Wukong and it's definitely a 9 game with 10 like moments. I know Andy has said he's been more impressed with it as well overtime. I think you guys are underselling how well Black Myth is doing, it's been the number 1 streamed game on Twitch for 3 weeks now over Star Wars and COD. It's outpaced Elden Ring in sales. It needs to be in GOTY conversations.
If a game doesn't click with Bless - in the case of this type of game, it doesn't play just as he'd like - then he very typically downplays the game and doesn't really give much valuable insight or analysis, as he doesn't really play it enough in order to be able to give a valid opinion - he often gives up on games in these scenarios, so how could you possibly give a proper opinion at that point. And then you have Greg who just has a completely dismissive stance on it because he was never interested in playing at all from the very beginning. Hades 2 is still my game of the year. Even if it’s early access. I’ll eventually get to Astrobot, but my next focus is Dragon Age The Veilguard. I am very excited about that release.
Where did they get the idea that Warner brothers is trying to sell their game studios..... Are they confusing it for the news that they are licensing out their ip to other students besides their own. Like seriously they're not gonna sell their game studios they're definitely keeping all of them to work on games for them in the future. It's just weird for them to make such a mistake like that
I think the release of Astrobot raises eyebrows about Sony’s comment about not having enough IP. Sure not all of the mascots present in the game are still owned by PlayStation, but a lot of them are, some that are just left in the dust. Namely Infamous and Bloodborne. Maybe they should take a hard look at their back catalogue and realise that quantity does not equate to quality as well.
Maybe I'm alone in this, and as a preface I fricken love astro bot, but playing through and seeing all the cameos of classic PS franchises feels almost like a giant obituary instead of a celebration. In the one hand it's awesome to see Sony acknowledge stuff like Jak and Daxter, Crash, and even Bloodborne. But then it also almost feels like a slap in the face because a lot of these franchises have been neglected. Feels like so much wasted potential. A deal should have been made for Bloodborne to come back long ago at this point just as an example. I don't even wanna get started on the treatment of some of the others in the fairly recent past. Makes me feel weird because Astrobot is exactly the kind of game that people have been wanting, something that bucks the current trends being chased by giant companies and goes for the fun, all while Sony having become the exact kind of company that chases those trends, then they go and applaud all these games and characters that made them great in the first place. They straight up said "sorry, we don't have much until 2025." Meanwhile they are sitting on stuff that easily could have been great in the meantime. Concord took how long to make?
Sony’s approach has bn to support devs to create what thwy want to make. All the teams that created those IPs like Crash, Spyro, Sly Cooper, Killzone, etc all have moved on to other franchises they wanted to make. So instead of Sly 7, we got Ghost of Tsushima from that same team. So I think it’s less that Sony is neglecting these franchises; more that they couldnt figure out which dev teams wanted to continue on the legacies of those previous franchises when majority of dev teams will make some sequels but want to continue creating other different things. It’s a very dirrerent approach from Microsoft. Microsoft has Age of Empires 4 and Halo Infinite and Gears 5; and these franchises have bn continued by dev teams that have almost nothing to do with the first games of the IPs
While on the topic of Wukong. Are the sales actually impressive? If other games were to tap into the Chinese market, would they not sell even more than Wokong? If we were able to separate the sales in China from the rest of the globe, would the sales still be considered amazing by normal standards?
