The bank of England has a mandate to keep inflation at 2%, which means even in normal times prices will creep up. To solve the cost of living crisis, wages and benefits need to increase at least as fast as inflation. However, because the tax bands are frozen, if your wages increase, a higher proportion will go to the government in tax. They expect to gather billions of taxes this way, and crucially, more than they will save people by reducing the national insurance rate.

Government needs to run super profitable but ethical business. Why not run ethical Government businesses which can allow profits to run the country. If you can get a Government bank and credit card I would use it. Although, I won't qualify for a credit card on my income and lack of credit history. And any pay rises to people at the poorer end will still be affected by the frozen tax bands. Even full time workers on minimum wage will pay more tax when the minimum wage increases. Effectively giving with one hand and taking with the other. With low inflation it would have mattered less, but with the recent high inflation, the tax rate is actually rising quite significantly.
You can’t use National Insurance for Foreign Aid, foreign wars or Export Guarantee invoices. Luckily, income tax rates bands are frozen so our future state pension and NHS funds are transferred to the foreign office budget 😃 👍🏻
