Goats and sheep can be raised together, but there are some reasons why it's not always recommended:
    1. Different grazing habits: Goats are browsers and prefer to eat shrubs, trees, and weeds, while sheep are grazers and prefer to eat grasses. This can lead to competition for food and habitat.
    2. Health risks: Goats can carry diseases like caprine arthritis and encephalitis (CAE) and Johne's disease, which can be transmitted to sheep.
    3. Parasite transfer: Goats and sheep can share internal parasites like worms and liver fluke, which can lead to health problems.
    4. Fencing and enclosure: Goats are skilled escape artists and can easily jump or climb out of enclosures, which can lead to escape and predation risks for sheep.
    5. Breeding and kidding: Goats and sheep have different breeding seasons and kidding/lambing times, which can lead to management challenges.
    6. Nutrition: Goats require more protein and energy than sheep, which can lead to nutritional imbalances if fed together.
That being said, some farmers do raise goats and sheep together successfully by:
    1. Providing separate areas for browsing and grazing.
    2. Implementing strict health management practices.
    3. Ensuring adequate fencing and enclosure.
    4. Managing breeding and kidding/lambing separately.
    5. Providing appropriate nutrition for each species.
It's important to weigh the pros and cons and consider the specific needs and management requirements of each species before raising goats and sheep together.

Hi Daniel, Really Great work 👍
I have 2 doubts about the structure
    1) how do you manage summer heat because shed is covered by sheets which absorb heat
    2) structure is made of wood, then how to avoid from fire accidents.. it may catch up fire easily since it is made of wooden structure

    • @FarmUp

Hello Doc, I thank God for your progress. And for the sheep and goats, my father has never encouraged putting them together. The reason being that goats are very gentle sensitive to some scents and sometimes will not even drink water that is leftover by sheep. Sheep on the other hand, though gentle, do not sometimes give a damn about those staff. Another aspect is that sheep are fast grazers and as a result it always disadvantages the goat, feeding on the same field with sheep. However, if you force them to be together they will manage. Apart from that, if manage very well with the cleanliness everything is going to be fine.

make sure that you don't place the battery right on the ground. put it on a piece of wood about 25cm / 10 inches high. If it is on the ground it will want to discharge faster and it won't last as long. I use to sell batteries and we would put them on a shelf or on a wood pallet in the store. It is easy enough to do. don't use a rock or bricks because it won't help.. wood is good or even some thick pieces of cardboard

Great one Doctor, personally I don't think Goats and sheep grazing together is such big of a problem. But, during mating seasons in large herds with limited resources, competition may arise and Goats tend to push away sheep in many aspects. Otherwise, diseases and pests are pretty much similar in both, except a few.

I see you have some mixed breed goats. What is needed to import exotic goats from South Africa to uganda?

  • @thestupendouschumley
    @thestupendouschumley Місяць тому

Primary reason for separating sheep and goats is their feeding habits. Sheep are grazers of grasses whereas goats are browsers of shrubs and trees. This is because goats have greater mineral requirements (trees and shrubs tap deeper for mineral).
Also, because of this they will tend to go in different directions. Not to mention goats are more independent thinkers. They won't mind a herding dog. The herding dog will get frustrated and just bite them. Whereas sheep can be easily herded.
Thus you need guardian breed dogs for tending goats and herding breed dogs for sheep.
I hope this helps you, and the men that help you, avoid a world of problems. And that you see combining them might bring a world of confusion.
This is where the true meaning of the references (as basic analogies), that are found in the Bible come from pertaining to their separation. They just simply, don't go together naturally. They want to pull in different directions (unequally yoked). It's just the way it is.

Excellent content as usual! You're very professional at what you do and your expertise is always meticulous but easy to understand which is awesome for wannabe farmers out there like me
However since I've watched your last video I must stress that I'm very disappointed with you my good brother. I'll explain why...
In your last video you said that you was a medical doctor and that you quit because you "got tired of it." Just so you know that statement broke my heart sir😢
I wasn't expecting this explanation at all since I always thought you starting farming was health related instead but now that I know that you quit being a medical doctor because you was bored I think this is "unacceptable!" Sir.
I'm not trying to shame you because you quit but at the same time it is my duty to let you know that you're out of line!!! Especially since we all know that there aren't enough physicians in Africa to insure proper healthcare to the average African citizen which has led to tragical outcomes in the past. We all heard of crazy westerners such Renée Bach pretending to be doctors when they aren't then practicing deadly "medical" experiments on African people, so how dare you quit your job knowing that?🤷🏾‍♂️
Sorry but I had to let you know how I feel, I was holding it back but I can't let that slide. I still love your channel tho, I just wish you'd consider getting back to your original craft and maybe doing the farm stuff on the side hopefully you won't be mistaken what I said for hate because it's not but the situation of our continent is so dire that I have no other choice but to try the impossible hopping you'll change your mind. I mean individuals like you who achieved the highest level of academical knowledge have no right to quit because they are bored😢...
