- This the the largest ever trap on a Venus Flytrap!
“The largest individual trapping leaf from a Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is a specimen of the cultivar “Alien”, which was verified to be 6.1 cm (2.4 in) across the midrib on 7 June 2021. It was grown in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, by carnivorous plant enthusiast Jeremiah Harris (USA),
This bettered the previous record 5-cm (1.96-in) trap, also a specimen of "Alien" grown by Harris, which was measured in Sep 2020.
There are many cultivars of the Venus flytrap and the trap size, shape and colouration varies widely. Typically, though, the snapping traps are around 2-3 cm (0.7-1.2 in) wide across the midrib.
Harris founded the Colorado Carnivorous Plant Society in 2003 and has one of the largest private collections of carnivorous plants in the USA.
The cultivar "B-52" is a favourite selection among Venus flytrap growers. In ideal conditions, it can reportedly produce trapping leaves of similar proportions to "Alien", and perhaps even larger, though none of these claims have yet to be formally measured and verified.”
Guinness World Records
I'm new to Venus flytraps and I'm in my mid-30s now. I wish I behaved in our home depot...
Love the plants and love the smacking after every sentence lol
Te felicito por tu enorme colección de plantas carnívoras. A mí particularmente me fascinan las Dionaeas y a mi gusto son las plantas más bellas del mundo. Saludos desde Perú 🇵🇪👍
Man, your greenhouses are crazy. Too good to be true. I can imagine how committed you are to taking care of them. Must have put a colossal effort into keeping them energized and healthy. In the wild, Nepenthes wouldn't be as beautiful as the ones in your greenhouse would they?
Wow!! Those traps are huge!! And wow your nursery is amazing. Do you allow people to visit? ;-)
That plant is mind blowing for sure! I've been growing them myself for almost 20 years. DCXL is my biggest so far but no where near THAT big. Guess I should start hitting them with some Maxsea or Maxicrop! Congrats to you!
nah mine grew smaller when i fed it max sea, my b52 is getting close to 2 inches tho
“My parents told me they’d get me anything I want, within reason.”
It would have been hilarious if he had asked for something random like a chainsaw lmao
I thought they liked partial sunlight at times. Are most flytraps the same as far as care goes?
Congratulations for the record ! :) The fertiliser part triggers my curiosity. What brand are you using exactly ? You say you use 25% of the recommeded concentration if I am correct, do you treat only once in spring or several times ? Have you tried more / less concentration with proper testing ? Thanks a lot.
Yep MaxSea
Oh my goodness, that's huge. I've just got into flytraps and they are amazing plants.
Amazing Venus fly trap!
My alien VFT that I purchased from you is already producing huge traps. One of them is closer to 2 inches now
Wonderful!
i never thought that the biggest flytrap would be a alien ...crazy!
Amazing collection as always. Also what kind of tables or shelves are you using? Because I’m trying to get a greenhouse right now but apparently wooden tables cost $250 lmao
I built my own out of galvanized steel pipe and expanded metal
I want to know the length of the largest Functional trap this guy have ever grown. The Alien cultivar is awesome, but it should have an Asterisk next to its "largest traps" claim as the traps are just barely functional. They close very, very slowly, catching only the slowest of the slow moving insects. I've never read of anybody claiming a functional trap larger than 2"
Oh forgot to mention taking wild seeds for your own personal collection.
Alien is huge. Especially when it comes to Venus fly traps
Really cool!! Amazing greenhouses! And congratulations on the award!
The lip smacking is so distracting! Im sorry i had to say it!!
Watching videos on selective breeding and how farmers shaped the vegetables that we enjoy today which make me wonder on what we can do with venus fly traps not just large size, but maybe selectively breed for hardiness and more soils variety's
its huge :D
So amazing!!!!! Badass!!!
Hi Jeremiah , congratulations on your largest fly trap soo amazing!! All your plants look so healthy and lots of colors. I just received 2 Venus flytraps from your website and can’t wait till they grow large. I have a 6x 8 outdoor greenhouse that I just set up and it has a evaporative cooler I installed,I was also going to add a hydro fogger since it can get very hot here in the summer,do you think flytraps like extra humidity? Thanks, love your videos
They don’t have to have super high humidity, my humidity fluctuates between 30-90% averaging about 68%
Can you use seaweed water in a mixed carnivorous bog garden ?
cant wait to seee it :)
ur soooo cool!!
congratulations again
Son mis favoritos alien , jaws smyley, hellcat , Montecarlo etc
Cuál es el tamaño la maceta?
Hi I saw you at florea
Hey, I saw you at Florea!
@@JeremiahsCPs 😀
I thought Venus flytraps are larger than 5cm (plants vs zombies are not educational). I am just learning about it they’re actually quite tiny. I guess there are not enough flies larger than 5cm for it to evolve growing necessarily larger 😂
FEED ME SEYMOUR!
Are you selling Alien dionaea muscipula ????
got one biggeer
how old is the world biggest flytrap
😋 ρɾσɱσʂɱ
I just bought my one today as a gift after the dentist lol. Made him feel a lot better after the difficult visit. He's been wanting one for a long time. What is the best thing to feed them? We were told bloodworms 🪱...
