I was once a Dominican postulant during the time of Fr. Eugene Cabillon way back 1992 at St. Albert's and im proud to tell that Fr. Liklik was my classmate
THIS IS TRULY UPLIFTING!!! Especially since St Dominic's feast is only a few weeks away! One of my old neighbor's daughter was a Dominican sister stationed in Nairobi and was lucky to celebrate her silver jubilee as a nun when Pope John Paul II made a visit there. Nobody told him who it was, except he was informed a religious in Nairobi was celebrating her 25 yrs as a nun. As he gave out some rosaries and prayer books to various nuns and monks in the area, he recognized her and gave her a kiss on the forehead and congratulated her. It made the local news on TV and newspapers.
What's the name of your school/church? I know this sounds like a silly question, but do they have Dominicans teach there also and do they have a dog for a mascot? As you know St Dominic in some of his pictures in art, he's often seen with a dog holding a lit torch in his mouth. Why, you ask? Because according to legend, before Dominic was born, his mother had a strange dream she gave birth to a dog with a torch in his mouth and everywhere this dog went, he set the world ablaze with a deep burning love for God and saving souls. When she later told her confessor about this dream, he reassured her of the fact her child will do great things for God and the Church...and he proved to be right! People also said about St Thomas Aquinas, who used to be bullied in school because he had a learning disability and rather shy. He was called 'the Dumb Ox' ('il Osso Dumbo') until one day one of his teachers, a Dominican friar named Albert, came to his defense and said to the kids, "You call this young lad a 'dumb ox' now, but sooner or later, this ox will make such a bellowing loud enough to be heard throughout the world!" Thomas wasn't dumb, he just needed someone like his teacher and a few friends explain the lesson in such a way he and others could understand and wound up being top in his class and was even invited to give lectures or substitute for his teachers in Latin, theology, mathematics, philosophy, history, etc. As a Dominican and a scholar, he wrote many books and hymns about Our Lord, various saints, Mary and countless hymns. Somebody asked him where he received his knowledge and he led them to the chapel and pointed to the tabernacle of the Blessed Sacrament. "That's where I find truth," he said humbly. When Our Lord asked him, "Thomas, you have written so well about Me, what do you wish in return?" He replied, "Nothing but Your Love, Lord!"
La bendicón más grande, la dedicación a Dios... mi amor fraterno a todas las órdenes de nuestra Iglesia cristiana.
Im proud to be a Dominican student.
