Just when you think the puzzle is coming together and you can see the trajectory of the story after last episode the writers flip the table and the pieces are all over the place with countless possibilities.
I love how quickly the Urca gold goes from being a sought after prize to an impediment for Flint now. Such great writing on this show. I agree with other commenters that I don't know if England is aware that Flint is James McGraw. Mainly they just know the name Flint as a brutal pirate captain they'd love to remove from the seas. Jack is just awesome this episode.
Whenever other peoples interests (like hornigold in this episode) make things messier and harder for flint, I'm reminded of what he told Thomas in one of the first flashbacks: "A man trying to change the world fails for one simple and unavoidable reason. Everyone else."
I think Flint is a fugitive from justice since S1E1 when he and Billy are paying a visit to Richard Guthrie and he knocks off the Captain of the Scarborugh. He's actually the same one we see with Billy, but I guess it's hard to recognise without that ridiculous wig xD. I don't think anybody knows Flint is McGraw.
I don't think the world has made a conection between James McGraw and Captain Flint. Hard not to like a guy who cheers for Billy; I always enjoy watching your reactions. Love the plate spinning analogy.
