I told my family I was joining the Army. My mother wants me to fail, because she thinks I’m going to die, my father was proud of me like any father would, and the fact I would make something out of myself unlike my 3 siblings. My siblings don’t care that much.

Told my folks after I enlisted. Mom didn't like the ideal. Dad said why the hell you do that, you can think for yourself. Dad said get ready for them to kick and beat on you, that what they did at Ft Polk in 63 when I got drafted.
Got to basic training summer of 1983 I was expecting the worse from the stories dad told me. They didn't hit only yelled and cussed us, however I was uses to this from dad only thing different was dad hit when yelled and cussed me.
I had a good time when I went to basic. Those days are long gone.

The way I told my family is I went to the recruiter's office. They told me they had a small bonus of like $5,000, told them I'd think about it and as I was walking out they said there was a $40,000 bonus. Asked for the paperwork, signed it, and went home. Told my father "I leave in a week for basic to join the Military". He thought I was bullshitting. I wasn't.

The paper thing you, where your going, it's your contract, it's a legal document with the military label saying John doe is ordered to go here at this date he has signed up for xyz to go xyz, he will train to become xyz and receive $$$ bonus after training or so many years. Then assume no one knows about these orders buy you and make 3 copies. This way if the military loses them you can get ahold of your copy. Make a records binder or I love me folder. Make notes of medical situations, anything. Awards, classes. Hell keep a journal. Your military career is a story. It's a journey and alot can happen. But only you can determine how it goes. By keeping records, your transitions, your schooling, and your retirement will go smoothly. Especially medical when you go to retire.

I always wanted to be on the Military since I was just a little shit (kid) growing up as a kid in the 80's I was so into the war movies especially Vietnam which was my now 73 yr old Dad's era I would watch my favorite G.I.Joe cartoons would always have the figures and vehicles, would play any arcade that pertained to war, would watch military biographies Etc so I was born August 8th 1979 the 80's to me had the best movies, toys, games my Dad would even buy me military toy guns plastic grenades, I would use the water grenades to throw at my neighbor's who were my age and any car that passed by then would wear camoflage make-up since Commando was my all-time favorite and Predator with Arnie. I wasn't much into Rambo but anyway turning 10 I got a BB gun so my dad taught me how to shoot while he had his trove of hunting rifles that he would always clean even if it wasn't hunting season. I was commanded by my Dad to never ever touch his weapons so me being a little menace I actually listened since he would take being a Drill Sgt to the house and would have a kid wake up at 0600 when my Mom would go to work. I always told him I wanted to be in the military since our family have its roots since Iwo-Jima his uncle's then his sister who's my aunt was the baby she was in the Army as well. My grandpa here in San Antonio worked for Boeing at Kelly AFB (Now called Lackland AFB) he painted the BUFF when the first came out then during the Vietnam Conflict he started to paint them those badass tan with black camo then my Dad would test the engines for our warbirds so I assume he was an inspector he would work in these sound proof testing rooms for Lackland AFB later on when he came home. Then in '79 my grandma passed away, 3 months later my grandpa then 3 months later I was born. The B-52 he painted is on display at the Medina Base Entrance. Well when I graduated from Catholic School I had the chance to attend Norwich University in Vermont but my sights were my childhood dream. Well, after telling my Dad I was not going to college instead I wanted to be the next one up his only son and my mom's only son to be what I wanted to be. That didn't go well it lead to so many arguments then throwing what shit my Dad had gone through, my Uncle who was one of the first before we were in it by LBJ . He was a Green Beret thanks to the herbicides that our planes were dripping so the trees and deep vegetation can die, he did his duty came back home then ended up with Agent Orange so my Dad and he were very very close. He lost his friends as well over there especially his best friend who would race together then my Mom's Brother was drafted went to Vietnam served in the Army 5th Infantry Red Diamonds ♦️out of Fort Carson Colorado became a Sgt came back home as well safe just himself and a Bronze Star. He passed from COVID January 2, 2021 met his battle buddies who followed my uncle since he was their squad leader. Anyway back to me, I fought about it until one morning my Dad woke me up saying I had an appointment so I think was my time finally... Well FML I always had a haircut every week so I dressed up as good as I could more than a date with the Girlfriend at the time. Ended up at a Medical School 😡 my own father enrolled me into Pharmacy School and I was SO pissed but hearing him say "I always stood by your side and supported your wishes but if I lose you, I rather die so you can hate me all you want but you're my only son and I don't wish what the men/boys in the family had to go through to see life and death, your mother and I decided to put you through Pharmacy" it was to that context so I said F-it I guess I'll be a Pharmacist then. If I would have fulfilled my life dream, I would have been out in some Muj shit place since 9/11 happened so my Dad saved my life. Then was transferred to Notre Dame until he got sick so I had to leave the University of Notre Dame and I did I still had Pharmacy credit I went out there for a different major so in 6 yrs I became a Rph. Instead of a digital cami uniform, I wore a lab coat did my internship at the hospital then bounced around for 20 yrs serving our fellow man/woman/child as your Registered Pharmacist. Ain't life grand?! 🙄 Still wet behind the ears about being tricked. So listen to this video please or else you'll get a surprise that will piss you off. I still love our beloved Military despite my outcome
