Here I show my process for digitally archiving my collection of glossy car audio magazines. The resulting files are PDF, full color and have OCR capability.
I know most people are going to ask "when will they be available for viewing/downloading? This is in progress. I want to get them scanned and organized then will share on Archive.org so they can be easily searched via OCR (text) and downloaded as well.

Yo big d can you do a amp dyno on the Taramps MD 3000.1 2ohm. I know you did the Taramps HD 3000.1 I'm curious what the MD does compared to the old HD.
TARAMPS CHANNEL only does the certified results and doesn't say what the efficiency is

Every time you show a magazine, it takes me back. I used to buy every car audio magazine I could. I used to especially love the buyers guides. I would just read everything and memorize specs and pricing. Shortly after I graduated high school I got a job selling car audio because no one knew the product like I did.
Everytime you flip thru and bring up a page from Car Audio and Electronics for a Vintage amp I always clamor at wanting to have my own copy of it haha. Doing the lords work, excited to see the results!
I'm currently visiting my mom and going through all of my childhood/teen stuff and I found all of my old comics, boys life and starlog magazines. Including all my tv recordings on VHS. My big summer project is to digitally transfer these and make these available on Internet archive

Cant wait for this to be done, I've been looking for an issue from back in 92-93 not sure of the month but it had a black GMC Typhoon that was built by Ron Anderson for a guy named (I believe) Grant. The shop I worked for back then my boss built it and I got to help with a few small things, the rig went onto win an IASCA final. it had 15" compound loaded subs in a custom box that looked like the spare tire and the grill was machined to look like one of the factory wheels. Love what your doing thanks

I did this with about ten years' worth of digital video and computer magazines a while back, using a ScanSnap ix500. (I took the magazines to the local Staples to get them "chopped" - they'll do it for a fee if you don't want to buy the cutter yourself.) The main thing to watch out for is sticky pages, which will cause it to twist in the scanner, resulting in the distortion you see at the bottom of your cover page. Also, you have to be really fussy about keeping the scanner sensor clean. A tiny speck of dust in there will result in a vertical streak of light running down the scanned image. One of those rocket-shaped air puffers that photographers use for their negatives works well. Other than that, you can scan in a crazy amount of magazines in a short amount of time using one of these things. They're pretty amazing.

@@CantankerousDave Excellent info, thanks! How much did Staples charge you to cut bindings? (I ask because it's the type of thing/service some uninformed Staples employees TELL you that they just don't offer, or SAY they don't have the equipment for - or sone locations might actually not have the equipment for, - or they make up a potentially higher price, since it's not on their pricing list, or because they're not aware of what the service is called, etc...

As someone who used to buy these back in the late 80's onwards. I wish I would've kept them. As well at the Aussie magazines that came out.

Great vid, thanks! What are the considerations/adjustments re the scans pertaining to compression (to keep file sizes down but quality high, like for zooming in clearly) and color/sharpness? Do you make any other changes before you "approve" and finalize the scan as finished?

Yes there are scanners that look like lamps that can scan with the binding in tact

What issue are you missing or looking for. I am recently moving and you wouldn't believe the collection that I have. There's magazines I forgot I used to collect. I hate looking like a hoarder but I know these are valuable to somebody.
1988-89, 2005-2008 Car Audio & Electronics, 1990-93 Auto Sound & Security, Various Car Stereo Review and Mobile Electronics. Not sure about Car Sound. I’m starting with CA&E
