Sorry but Hello Dolly is actually wonderful and Barbra was brilliant, her age being irrelevant. Hindsight can teach us we weren’t always right. And Xanadu does indeed have a terrible script, but it’s musical numbers are anazing.
"Xanadu" was truly awful... but the songs were wonderful! "Suddenly" is one of my favorite songs from that era. The Electric Light Orchestra provided wonderful songs. Olivia Newton John's appearance was worth sitting through the entire film.
I'm listening to my "Xanadu" soundtrack right now and amazed at the quality of performance, production and songwriting. Granted, the film didn't work. But the music was fabulous!

My guilty pleasure that everyone else hates - "Popeye." Some great casting (Shelley Duvall was born to play Olive Oyl, and there's Bill Irwin in the ensemble). Mess of a script, though.
There are actually some fans of 'Popeye' out here in the world. My mom for example really enjoyed the movie when it was first released, and saw it twice in the theatres. I admit I didn't care much for the movie at first, but I've grown more affectionate for it over time. It's definitely a flawed work, but an interesting one, and it's heart is in the right place.
How do you not mention with Can't Stop The Music that it's an "origin story" of The Village People that both makes The Village People only supporting players in their own movie and also, insanely, sidesteps the fact that they are gay. What???
Where is "At Long Last Love"? Certainly worse than a number of these movies. Otherwise great selections. BTW Cameron English, who played Paul in A Chorus Line, was a former roommate of mine.

Nice work Peter. Some truly terrible disasters and some so bad they're fun to watch with friends and make fun of. I just watched Hello Dolly recently since I'd heard they spent as much on it as they spent on Cleopatra so I wondered how it could have bombed. I definitely understand now. Apart from Barbara, who was just adorable despite the age issue (I just assumed she was widowed at a young age) all the other characters were shallow and boring and I truly could have cared less what happened to them, the songs were mostly bland and unmemorable and the dance numbers dragged on for far too long. There's just no way Barbara could have carried that whole movie, but she sure did try. Considering the sheer amount of money spent for such a measly result, I can't help wondering if someone was pocketing it.
Me too. I think 'Xanadu' is actually an enjoyable movie, with a great score, and with Olivia Newton-John such a pretty and charming star. 'A Chorus Line', while not exactly a good movie and clearly a disappointment to fans of the original stage version, is not nearly as bad as so many would lead one to believe.
