    So about the mold: it's called the Hook Again Chamber. It was made by Ebonite and they had some sort of cleaner along with it, you would basically soak your ball in the solution to make it hook more. Randomly saw some for sale on facebook and I just had to snag one and get it to you. But it really sucks it didn't work out they way we were thinking it would.
    Hoping for one day a method to come to you so you can make all the craziest homemade balls of your dreams!

    Getting closer! I don't think there'd have been any fix for the flat spot regarding not being a risk in the ball return, but it'd probably be good to surface future balls before you lay them out. That way if there's imperfections like that you could have drilled to (attempt to) not track over them. Something like a Cook Sphere for surfacing would also probably be worthwhile, but I do think you'll need to keep searching for a totally spherical mold. I love these videos though, I'll be super excited to see you eventually cast a real core to use in one of these as well.

    So, as an artist who does projects that require the pouring of glue, floetrol, and resin, the bubbles are formed from the pour, to elimate them, try to pour slower, as well as you can use a butane torch (i use a creme brulee torch) to pop them and get rid of them!

    • @RB-pc7tg
      @RB-pc7tg 11 днів тому +3

      There is no access to the surface for the torch method. Vacuum chamber the resin before pouring would be better.

    Pro tip for you. When you try this again, put the ball on the ball spinner with the seam spinning as an axis. Use a razor blade to scrape off the ridge by lightly shaving it as it spins. Should get rid of that noise and the hops. Also, if your pro shop has a Hause Resurface machine, use that to get it right. Hope this helps.

    You should try this again. But your first step is to find someone who can lathe or sand the ball completely round.
    Next please put a core in it
    Also mix all your resin and pour 1 time.
    And if your pro shop has a determinator. That will help you with laying out the ball the best way possible.

    I have one of those. It is for dehydrating your pulling ball without using a bunch of material. You can finally grind oil dry or kitty litter( which is just oil dry with some scent) and let it sit and it'll absorb the oil. I've done it on a few balls but actually forgot I had one in my basement till I saw this video.

    to deal with the bubbles you need to have a pressure chamber that will pull the air out while the resin cures.

    • @drg19841
      @drg19841 11 днів тому +2

      That's definitely an option. Another one is what's called Deep Pour resin. It's designed to cure slowly so that the bubbles have plenty of time to rise out. It works surprisingly well. Just takes longer to cure.

    Nicely done Deca. That ball mould looks cleaner than mine. The ridge is a problem I encountered as well, and found that pouring past the seam in one pour helps a lot. I actually use cut down gallon jugs as mix containers. Think windshield washer fluid bottles.

    • @drg19841
      @drg19841 11 днів тому +1

      I sort of followed 220s route. Except mine I placed 2 layers of wax paper roughly 3/4 up, and in the bottom I had a brake parts cleaner cap holding the ball in place, screwed to plywood. Solved the flat spot problem, but I have 2 extensions that have to be removed when the curing is done. I was trying to make a clear dragon ball bowling ball. Got the stars figured out so they're actually functional weight blocks, but can't find a urethane or resin mix that looks even slightly correct. They just end up looking like tangerines or with the quick set urethane they're just too bubble ridden. Then it got really cold up here in the northeast US, so I haven't even tried for the last 2 months. My barn isn't heated.

    • @decadude8968
      @decadude8968 11 днів тому +1

      @drg19841 yeah that was basically what I was thinking of doing. I don't know what exactly manufacturers are using to make completely clear covers, I have to assume it's a kind of resin that needs some machine assistance and not so much one that you can mix by hand. Would need to find someone to spill the beans on how they do it.

    • @drg19841
      @drg19841 8 днів тому +1

      I think I found the solution! There's a video on here called "Alumilite Clear Slow - EVERYTHING You NEED to Know!" And it shows the cure for the bubbles and haze. Apparently the trick is to have a pressure pot big enough for your castings. I don't have that, yet...

    People would use acetone or paint thinner in that mold thus making the outer Shell of the ball softer this letting your soaked ball hook 10 times more.

    Dude, get something that fits in the top of the hole of the mold to mix with. You literally have a measuring device with the mold. Clamp it all together, put half and half, add coloring, mix, and top off. Final mix, let it sit.

      It did hook, surprisingly more than the rock core from what it seemed.

    I almost wrote an angry comment asking why we don’t weigh our homemade bowling balls anymore. Good thing I watched til the end.
