I'd like to get your thoughts on something. I've had a desire to paint scenes in scripture that describe a visual appearance of God. A top example I have in mind is Exodus 24:9-10 when Moses and a company of men encounter God (whether it be a theophany or Christophany) seated on a throne. I understand that there's nothing wrong with artful portrayals of the Biblical divine. But I wonder whether I might be violating some biblical principle in visualizing the described appearance of God in a passage like Exodus 24:9-10.
I have painted several Christophany paintings in the Illuminated Messiah Bible (available now from Broadstreet Publishing company, Amazon, or illuminatedmessiah.com). As long as your intent is not to create an image for the express purpose of worship, such depictions are not a violation of the commandment.
