What’s the go pro effect? Wider lenses tend to make things look bigger/steeper. I’m sure this is steep AF but it’s not as big or steep as it looks in the video
@@thetreeking8001 ok. I watched this video on my phone. I didnt know it was wide angle. When you use a go pro, it makes it look less steep, impressive, etc. For example when I watch mountain bike videos of local trails the go pro effect makes the downhill parts less steep, the jumps and drops less impressive compared to real life.
@@photonigarcia From Wikipedia on lens distortion: “Extension or wide-angle distortion can be seen in images shot from close using a wide-angle lens (with an angle of view wider than a normal lens). Objects close to the lens appear abnormally large relative to more distant objects, and distant objects appear abnormally small and hence farther away - distances are extended.” Wide angle lenses (the type go pros and other action cameras use) distort the image, causing close objects (the ramp) to look larger and far away objects (the landing area) to look smaller. This causes the overall ramp to look much larger and steeper than it is in reality. There are even videos on how to make a trail, ramp, or jump look steeper and larger than it is for people who ride mountain bikes and other action sports.

Hours of prepping & practicing in addition to walking those stairs just to slide for less than 20 seconds.
I've waited two hours just to ride a roller coaster that lasted about 90 seconds so to each their own, I suppose.
Very impressive & interesting to see without the snowy backdrop.
He survived the slide and glide down the slope...but he died of heart attack when he went back up the stairs....
Personally, I like taking walks around the block and snapping photos of cats.
Anyone else notice the stairs keep going up?
yes

When I was in the Alps, there was a truck full of little Swiss kids that were driven to the top of one of those things. I sat at the bottom watching them come down. What brave little souls, I'm not sure I could do it while sober.
Apparently if you don't start doing it as a kid you have very little change of starting later...
Then dont be sober 😂
this is absolutely terrifying. I just think about how trains sometimes can go over parts of a track that may not be up to snuff in terms of maintenance and can skid or screech and almost derail themselves (I'm looking at you Amtrak). But instead of a train, it's a human being buckled to skis. There are just far too many ways to die in this situation.
Lmao at the “looking at you Amtrak” comment 😭 I agree though

In 1979 I was in Grimstad Norway visiting my brother. While walking by the jump at the high school I spotted the younger brother of a girl I liked coming down the hill and making a perfect landing. Being a smart ass I said that was good now do it with one ski;...so without hesitation he handed me one of his skis and did just that. Another beauty landing as well. Ah to be young and fearless.
If you’re looking this video it’s time to sleep😂
I always wondered how that felt, going down the ski jump, now I know, thank you for the video…!!!
my grandmother went to school like that every day
That’s insane
Imagine you’re slightly out of alignment
I feel like this is more scary that normal skiing on snow but idk I’ve never done either
Skiing on snow is much safer. You misstep or fall on this. You breaking bones.
The ski's are in a groove, you can't get out of line.
it is both scary and dangerous, but it isnt as dangerous as it looks. Even if you would land all wrong, the slope is made in such a way that the impact is "manageable". It will probably hurt like hell, and you can definitely brake bones, but most likely you will survive ^^
@@tmilesffl tell that to the landing, lol
Ive snow skied once , well , I actually rolled off a mountian slope once but I was wearing skis at the time 😅
This should be at most theme parks and fairs! Looks like a fun ride.
With an overhead rope attachment attached to a secure vest clip it isn’t an impractical suggestion.
one of my favorite sports to watch every time the winter olympics comes around
its not only during winter olympics. You can watch this every winter, its very popular sport.
definitely impressive. but the problem is that I am very much afraid of heights. and while I was watching this video, adrenaline jumped in my body. this guy is a brave man.
If it even looks on camera fast, IT IS really fast 😅
I'm not saying that it's slow, but fish eye lens makes things look a lot faster
*me, a man who's never skied in his life*
"I could probably do that"
That was freakin amazing, thanks for letting me experience that.
He made it looks easy... I will definitely quit just to look at the track, from the ground, heheh
Never mind the jump, what about the splinters from that lump of wood he slides across...
😲
Hahaha!!!
Anybody else here old enough to remember the intro to Wide World of Sports in the 70's where the guy falls off the jump right before launch??

This, to me, is as big a Nope as jumping out of an airplane with a backpack that has a sheet with strings in it. Kudos man.
I've never in my life heard of 'bagback'
Only bookbags and backpacks.
Ima use that one now.
Much bigger nono
@@everetthancock2043 Ha. Massive brainfart on my part xD It happens.
This is definitely a hell no, but jumped in the military with technically "2 backpacks", where the primary opens via static line and reserve which you pull if there's any time left. We jumped @1,250 feet only so not much time to figure things out lol
I jumped out of a perfectly good plane and came down with a chunk of nylon.
Seeing THIS dude made my palms sweaty. Hard pass, hell no. I'd much rather break every single bone in an instant than every single bone over a looong tumble down some wooden stairs.
If I was sitting on that bench, I'd be thinking, "Okay...this is the last day of my life."
No matter the climate, at that height & elevation I'd be scared shitless. Kudos to that person.
Damn, even with go pro effect kicking in it still looks steep. I can't imagine how it really looks in person.
Steep
@@photonigarcia From Wikipedia on lens distortion: “Extension or wide-angle distortion can be seen in images shot from close using a wide-angle lens (with an angle of view wider than a normal lens). Objects close to the lens appear abnormally large relative to more distant objects, and distant objects appear abnormally small and hence farther away - distances are extended.”
Wide angle lenses (the type go pros and other action cameras use) distort the image, causing close objects (the ramp) to look larger and far away objects (the landing area) to look smaller. This causes the overall ramp to look much larger and steeper than it is in reality. There are even videos on how to make a trail, ramp, or jump look steeper and larger than it is for people who ride mountain bikes and other action sports.
Toni, are you done playing with yourself in public yet?
I like how he double checked his ski's before heading down....if it were me and this were my video the whole video would just be me checking them ski's 😂
I'd double check everything including adding a long piece of duct tape to keep my helmet on apart from the helmet strap

The biggest risk with this speed/run is your skis turning (even slightly, one slower than the other)
But with the ski tracks it's almost impossible.
Or the clips on his boots failing which is why this person quadruple checked them. I would never have the guts to do this even I knew the technique perfectly. Just takes the slightest distraction or mistake and your in a wheel chair for life.

Looks fun do to how you just kept it aligned like that. Makes it look easy lol
I can't imagine missing the landing let alone lose balance and crash...do these suits protect from such friction or no? Amazing view though 😀
They are designed to let you glide further when you take-off. They have limitations as to the size of the suits.
The suit is a portable body bag! :)

Reminds me of my second time skydiving. Its worse than the first, because then your body knows what you're up to and panics earlier.
I remember being on the top of the ramp in Trondheim, it was so high !!! You need a large amount of guts to do this !!
I could easily do the same thing in at least 3 hours.
1 hour to muster up the courage.
1 hour to think about the many ways I could get hurt
20 minutes going down while sitting.
20 minutes stopping to cry
20 minutes going down but still stopping and seating and crying.
1 minute going down with muscles terribly tense and hoping for the best.
19 minutes stuck to the tree that breaks my fall and then I climb back up to the top to start all over again.

Nah, on the biggest hills in the world you get like a 110 km per hour max, large hill is already at down to around 90 kph (sorry for not using miles, but just around everywhere kilometers are the standard and shown on TV)
So it was 60 mph?

Same here, but in my case it was in Moscow, 1989, looking down one of the jumps used for the Winter Olympics (sometime earlier in the 80s). I'm not scared of heights, but that looked absolutely terrifying.
@@leonnehaaijman4709 You were in Moscow in 1989? That must have been a pretty interesting place! What was it like, hanging out in the Soviet Union at that time? Was it hard to get in? @@gr8sword97, it was an organised trip through a travel agency, so my mum didn't have to do any organising (all WE had to do, was get visas).
This was before Coca Cola and McDonald's arrived, no neon advertising or anything. I accidentally stepped off the pavement in Red Square and was reminded by a man in uniform to stay on it.
