Hi Alex. I hope you are doing well. As a person from South Sulawesi who lives in Bali, I would say Sulawesi is very unique and has more attractions and natural beauty than Bali. Unfortunately, the way you vlogging is different and not really pleasant to see, I can see from your expression. It looks like you are not interested in the place even in fact, Sulawesi is so beautiful and has many amazing places as it's the 11th biggest island in the world. I believe you need to take a break from vlogging because I know you always think about your born country, Ukraine. And you visit South Sulawesi during your hard time. It doesn't really give a good impression to your viewers about Sulawesi and Tana Toraja, especially even it's actually one of the most visited places by international tourists outside of Bali and Lombok.

I think we have a cut Alex a little slack. He was sleep deprived. I also want to say something in truth. I have been married to an Indonesian woman for 12 years and all of my in-laws live in Sulawesi Selatan. My wife’s father is actually from Toraja, although the family settled in the Palopo area. I love them very much, and I love Sulawesi. Let me say this, however. It gets very tiring overcharged for everything because you’re white. Any place there is no market price, I would get.”harga bule!” Especially at the pasar. And “Aku bisa bilang Bahasa!” Belum lancar but still. I lived in Makasaar a few years and also on the Kalimantan, Sarawak border. 10 years total and it happened in both places. It’s just something you learn to deal with over time but I can see that Alex was disappointed in that. I think “understanding” goes two ways!

5:17 If you travel in Indonesia, there are a lot free toilete. In Mosque... But make sure to take off your shoes before entering the Mosque and don't step with your shoes in the floor... Sometimes you can even take a free bath in Mosque Toilete... 😉 And dont throw tissue or sanitary napkin in the toilette closet, or you will make it clogged.. Keep it clean and Dont leave any dirt or urine in the toilete floor or even in the wall... 😉 Make sure you pour a lot amount of water to keep it clean from any type of dirt in the floor before you out of the toilette.
Give a respectful feedback for free toilete from mosque by keep it clean. 👍

10K IDR "handling fee" and higher tourist price. Really no different than getting charged high $ amounts in Busch Gardens or Orlando theme parks; except in Indonesia it's a much lower fleecing and therefore reasonable in comparison.

And about the price, not only foreign tourist charged with high price. Sometimes we the local tourist have to pay high price too. That because of the "tourism taxes", it charges from food, ticket, etc.
If you have a more time i suggest you to visit Tanjung Bira.

@@alexandwhite Yeah... sure.. we call them free range organic happy and rude chicken.. 😂 Some times they give us their poop inside our home or inside the neighbour home... If they are too naughty, annoying and act like a boss, 😥 that chicken will be slaughtered fast than the calm chicken.. Its the habit and rules for chicken who live in the indonesian village.. actually, you should report that chicken to the owner and that chicken will be end up soon in their owners kitchen table. lol... 😂

Did you find it touristy or not so bad? I’m ashamed to say as a traveller I don’t really know too much about Indonesia except everyone and their dog has been to Bali 😂

    • @tordyclark

Compared to Bali, Sulawesi is different. It's a big island, with lots of diving areas. These are touristy, as is TOrajaLand. Bali is a tiny island so beautiful you want to cry, and because of that, totally ruined by tourism. You are also a tourist though. And look at this video - a tourist vlogging with a selfie stick. Anywhere you see tourist buses, is a tourist spot.
Indonesia is a truly, magical place. 22,00 islands, some are Christian or animist. In Nusa Tenggara and Maluku,, the Halmahera and Sulawesi are is very far east, so it gets less touristy the further you go, and further from an airport like Halmahera, Ambon, and the deep Molluccus are not touristy still. Sulawesi is lightly touristy IMHO and I've traveled as a backpacker to a lot of the eastern part of Indonesia.. Sulawesi is more popular than the southern Moluccas. Still less populated than Bali or Java.\
Try Sumbawa, the deep Molluccus, Kai Islands if you want far away no tourists.

I'm not a native Torajan but I call Tana Toraja home. I found Alex's video a bit disturbing. He complains almost all the way through it! What is your problem, dude? I don't know how you describe yourself, but if you are a genuine traveler or vlogger you should at least show some positivity in your representation of the place that you visit. If you don't like what you're seeing and paying for, just don't come, or don't travel at all. After all, not everything that the Torajans do is for tourism or tourists; they do it because that's how live their lives. If they charge you a bit more for their services, why not? It costs them money to maintain the places that you visit there. Did you know that we Indonesians pay more too when we travel or study abroad? I mean, we make rupiahs here but when we travel to the US or Australia, we have to pay what we are charged over there and don't expect the rates to be by our Indonesian standards.
