  • in this little video I swap out the rear sprocket on my honda grom. its a +1 tooth (35 tooth) and picked it up from mnnthbx.com/. easier to install than I thought and I feel this sprocket is super clean looking and makes the rear end nicer. chain is definitely on the list but have a couple other things first.

    What is the torque spec of the (4) sprocket nuts?

    @tjmooney5577 5 років тому

    Anything larger in the rear or smaller in the front takes from top speed and makes acceleration faster but the speedometer will read higher than actual speed

    How did you realign the rear?

      LOL. I am looking everywhere for this torque spec. I cannot find it anywhere.
      Just tight, I guess. LOL

    35T rear will make the speedometer read 2 mph faster. 14T front will make the speedometer read 4 mph faster.
    35/14 I am testing soon.

      my bike is only about 1mph off with my current setup.
      14T rear doesn't sound right haha

      I goofed 14 front. Thx, fixed it.
      I had to be patient when testing because the GPS lags. I also saw 1 mph difference at slower speeds, but above 45 or so it was 2 mph off so i went with 2 mph since I am usually doing 50-55 mph. Interestingly, If you go with a 140 rear instead of the standard 130, it has a slightly higher sidewall and brings the speedo back to accurate (with the 35 tooth rear). I really like the 35T sprocket, maintains more speed on the hills, doesn't hurt your top end (much).

      @@btankful yea I dig the 35T as well. feels like a overall good first mod.

      OK, so I tested a rear 35T and a front 14T (34/15 is stock). I lost 6 mph above 50 mph. Translated that to percentage and programmed a speed corrector. 30 mph GPS was 30 mph on speedometer, 35 was 35, and 50 was 50. Perfect. Went to a steep long hill that degrades a stock Grom down to 39 mph in fourth (need to shift to 3rd and get back up to 46 mph, but no further) and it held at 50 mph all the way up the hill.

      Top speed (downhill in full tuck) was 63.4 mph. Which was surprising since previous top speed was 65 mph. The difference was the new sprockets allowed the Grom to pull higher revs. Top speed before, could not go past 8200 rpm. 4th gear now pulled to 9300 rpm and 63.4 mph (GPS verified). Going up small and medium hills is night and day now and there is a nice pull in every gear. Before 4th gear was more like an overdrive. MPG will be less as I'm cruising at 1000 rpm more. I'll try this for awhile. I can drop one of the sprockets if I want.

    What was your top speed? And did your Speedo stay accurate?

    • @oneSMALLgarage
      @oneSMALLgarage  5 років тому

      I'd say maybe speedo changed 1-2 mph if that even. GPS verified it when I got the bike and was only about 1 mph from GPS. Top speed right now with this bike is only about 68 mph with a full tuck (still in the break in) my old grom with this sprocket I was able to hit 72 but I had some more bolt ons then this bike.

      will you recommend this over the 14/34 setup?

    • @oneSMALLgarage

      I'm not too sure as I have not tried the 14T front sprocket. I think that setup will give ya a little more acceleration while the 35T rear sprocket kinda gives a little more top end.
