    What are your top 5 RF lenses?

    • @TheSilverGlow
      @TheSilverGlow Рік тому +2

      Mine are: (1) RF 135L f1.8, (2) RF 85L f1.2, (3) RF 50L f1.2, (4) RF 24-105L f4, (5) RF 35mm f1.8. I shoot portraits, and travel most of the time. I have the RF 28-70L f2, but I can't feel the love for it..perhaps its me...

      @KevinDeal  Рік тому +2

      @@TheSilverGlow that's a fantastic list. The 28-70 certainly isn't as sharp as the primes. It's close but not 100% there.

      I'm not trying to carry around the 28 to 70mm at a wedding. It's just not worth it. I'm using the Canon 50mm RF L lens and my Tamron 24 to 70mm w/ the EF to RF adapter. I've got the 35 & 50mm RF lens STM but I'm not confident on the quality. I'd rather use a higher end EF like the Canon 85mm EF f/1.2.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  Рік тому +2

      The 28-70 is definitely not for everyone. But I love it at weddings. Often times I just roll with that for 90% of the day. @@sjcproductionsandmedia

    I only own 6 RF lenses, so I'll list them in favorite order:
    1. RF 24-105 F4L, my most versatile lens for just about everything except wildlife, but especially landscapes.
    2. RF 100-500 F/4.5-7.1L, my birding lens. I have also used it for landscapes (distant details) and even butterflies, since it focuses so close.
    3. RF 14-35 F/4L. I rarely shoot wider than 24mm. This lens is my most recent purchase and, when I have both a compelling close foreground and an interesting midground, this is the lens I reach for. I almost always shoot vertically with it, as landscape-format images have too much distortion at either side for my purposes.
    4. RF 100mm F/2.8 macro. Because, 1.4x macro and really sharp. It would also be a great portrait lens, if that were my thing.
    5. RF 35mm F/1.8. It's my main lens for pieces to camera when I shoot UA-cam videos.
    6. RF 16mm F/2.8. I bought it for vlogging but, being unstabilized, it has limitations. But for architectural images taken close up, it's OK.

    I’m primarily a wedding and portrait photographer;
    1. RF 28-70mm f2 L - my main wedding lens, its on 80% of the day
    2. RF 70-200mm f2.8 L - mainly for the ceremony
    3. RF 50mm f1.2 L - for portraits
    4. RF 35mm f1.4 L - environmental portraits
    5. RF 15-35mm f2.8 L - only lens I bring for family vacations
    RF glass really is amazing. Pricey but very worth it imo.

      @ hey there! I started out as a portrait photographer for friends and family first as a hobby that gets paid once in a while. Until late 2016 when a friend of my wife wanted me to shoot their wedding. Then from then on i transitioned it into a full fledge business in 2019! I’ve always shot canon and i started with the 6D back in 2012. Now i shoot with the R6 mark II with the R6 and R as my backups. I say the one advice that i got from other people back when i was starting out was be confident of your work and be vocal to your clients; they don’t know what they want really so they lean on your vision. Always have your portfolio ready when potential clients ask for samples also is a great way to get clients. Good luck on your endeavor my friend!

    As a budget-challenged hobbyist that mainly shoots portraits, I do not have a top five. I have 2 lenses that cover my needs. They are the 24-70 F2.8L and the 70-200 f2.8 IS L G2 They are both EF lenses that adapt well on my R camera. The only lens that you talked about here that I may be tempted to get would be the 16mm.

    35mm 1.8 is my favorite right now. I have the whole non-L lineup, but this lens has been living on my camera. For video it has been amazing. I love the size, weight, stabilization, image quality and the control rings have been game changers for me. All my friends are using cine glass, but they keep coming to me asking why my stuff looks so much better, Auto-focus and image stabilization my friends. I mean there is a place for cine glass, like when you have a focus puller and stabilization rigs, but for a run and gun, one man band like me, the 35mm is killing it.

    My top 5
    1. 28-70 F2 (replacing the RF 24-70 2.8), it's heavy but worthy
    2. 35 1.8 STM macro, when I want to go lightweight for street photo (thinking about replacing it by the 24 1.8 STM macro version...)
    3. 16 2.8 so awesome, always on my bag! It is also enough for me for astro photo
    4. 50 1.8 STM, the new nifty fifty, always on my bag too it is overlapping the 28-70 but I have a EOS RP as second body, and with the nifty fifty it fits inside my jacket's pocket! My go to for travel/single lens kit
    5. 24-105 4-7.1, yes it is a kit lens but for the price it is just perfect, I'm not afraid of breaking it, stabilized, combined with the nifty fifty

    I'm with you on the 24-105 f/4 L. I spent a summer traveling and shooting with the 5D4 with the 24-70 f/2.8L as my primary lens, and I went back and compared the number of my keeper photos that were shot wider than f/4 with the number shot at 70mm and cropped tighter. That made it very clear that more reach was more important to my kind of shooting than a larger aperture, so when I got my EOS R, I switched to the RF 24-105 as my primary lens, and I have not regretted it. The EF 24-105s were not as sharp, but the IQ on the RF has been fine when mounted on my R and R6.
    When I need a wider aperture, I've got the RF 16 f/2.8, RF 35 f/1.8, RF 50 f/1.8, RF 85 f/2, and RF 70-200 f/2.8, so the fact that the 24-105 only opens to f/4 has never been a problem.

      @KevinDeal  Рік тому

      That looks like the ultimate travel set up.

    • @DaneRThomas
      @DaneRThomas Рік тому +1

      @@KevinDeal I also have the RF 100-400, but the small, variable aperture is my least favorite property of that lens.
      I rarely bring everything when traveling, but I try to tailor the equipment for the situation. Last year we spent a week hiking with a group on El Camino Santiago between Bilbao and Santiago de Compestela in Spain. It was a hiking trip rather than a working trip, so for the best combination of low weight, easy access, and focal length options while hiking I had my iPhone 13 Pro (13mm, 24mm, and 77mm lenses) and my R6 with the RF 100-400mm mounted. For shots before and after hiking, I had other lenses for the R6, but they traveled between hotels in the support vehicle.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  Рік тому

      @@DaneRThomas That lens is on my list to try out. I don't shoot stuff that's too far away, so I wouldn't want to drop too much on a lens like that. The 100-400 seems good enough for day time photos.
