We need better bees and better treatments. I only buy Mite resistant Queens. The more we breed towards that the better things will get. But you also need to treat if you get a hive with a mite infestation because if you don't your other hives are a risk of getting an infestation. The fewer mites in a given area means fewer mite issues in the hives. Prevent , detect and then treat as needed.

@@LittleRiverBees-or6qp Yes the nuance is in the details. There are plenty of non-chemical treatments available as well that can still keep us trending towards selection.

@@aaronparis4714 OA is certainly an effective mitigated agent for mites. But - it is not a long-term selection tool, it serves a purpose, but prevents a long-term solution.

@@aaronparis4714 The issue with just using 1 treatment is you are breeding the mites that are resistant to whatever treatment you are using.

@@LittleRiverBees-or6qp there is no scientific reports done to say mites are building any type of resistance to OA and the research I have found it’s not likely to happen as OA effect the mites nervous system if you set up a proper schedule with OA it’s very effective and all you need I am defiantly not raising mites as many grams and treatments of OA I hit my bees with you will never see that type of mite drops lol OA is now been allowed to treat with supers on so now it’s even easier to set up a good OA treatment method all them strips you use are a resistance to the mites not OA
