I think these couple raised the bar of interior designers. I raise my hat for them. I wish if they produce a catalogue that contain all their interior design projects.
The Gaines are just so great together. He brings to reality all that she conceptualizes. She's the best interior designer to have ever been on hgtv.
This is not my style BUT I could TOTALLY live here! It's so beautiful and warm, and elegant. A perfect color scheme, dark and a little moody. Well balanced. One of the best transformations!
The finishing touch, the prayer art is simply perfection. (Everyone, pause the video and read the words.) Such a sweet sentiment believed and agreed over the two of you and your marriage. As for the design, AMAZING.
It's adding things that like that is jut one of the reasons Jo gets my respect as an interior designer. She's not just tryna make something look like it belongs in architectural digest. She's creating homes that feel like home and those little thoughtful touches in my opinion is what get's my respect.
Just gorgeous, Joanna is a fantastic decorator. Definitely great colors, very imaginative, and the furnishings are just beautiful. A home to be envied - or emulated - but not many of us could pull this off so well
She really did a nice job here. It has a lot of character.
Chip and JoAnna inspire me to move to Waco!!
i love how they incorporated antique details in the house!
These two have a serious gift.
I absolutely love the wall color they chose for the master bedroom.♥️ Beautiful home.
Agreed! From nothing to something simply woow 👍
I'm not into dark colors but they really did an awesome job! And what a nice touch with the prayer
This is one of my favorites!! The black trim is so warm and the light fixtures are stunning! Great color scheme, shmear and ALL!
I love the dark trim and light walls... maybe my next home renovation.
What is name if paint company? What are names of colours? What finish was used?
Did that in my home. Love love it.
Love that prayer art piece! So special!!
Funny that we don’t have the Schmier at our houses nor the look in Germany.
The look is great, but should called Chip schmear.
Einfach Verputz, oder?
I never heared anyone pronounce like that in Germany! :😀
@@chris57de Neither in Austria nor in Germany you'll hear this term. We typically have masonry walls that are plastered and I suppose the "Schmear" is similar to the plaster used in Germany (and also Austria), and accordingly this kind of thing was coined German schmear.
Angelika Eder hello what I,ve heard is that is a technique that is similar to what is call here “white washing brick” and that German smear is a style used in century old cottages in northern Germany. Hence the name “German Smear”🤔
This is my favorite exterior!
I've just watched this episode on TV and came on UA-cam to learn more about the technique. And then the same video popped up 😆
Wow! What I wouldn’t give to have Joanna and Chip decorate my house!!! Absolutely beautiful!! 😍❤️
I love Joanna & Chip and all the little Chip-a-roo children! They’re a lovely family and a husband and wife team that work extremely well together. Chip is very handy and Joanna’s taste is exquisite, I love everything “Magnolia”! I wish everybody would stop making these ridiculous/asinine comments about Chip “looking disheveled”! Hello he’s usually there to demolish something, build something and basically goof-off and tease his wife. Leave him alone who cares if they’re a few hairs out of place or if his shirt is not tucked in!
I couldn't have said it any better
Omg, how can they be so tasteful.. in love with all thier efforts, impeccable decor n asthetics
It’s stunning with all of the black wood and I love the black faucets and Mercury Glass in the kitchen. That bedroom is so romantic looking! It looks more French than German to me? 🤷🏻♀️
One of my absolute favorites from the outside to the inside 😍😍😍❤️
I love Chip's vibe....
I also love Joana...
I love them both...❤❤❤❤
Wow what a gift by father so thoughtful
I love that old distressed look ❤☺ I love anything that looks antique mixed with modern❤
GORGEOUS as always. we have missed you all
From all the designers here on this channel, and I've watched a lot, Joanna is the best, really. I wish I could get to see the whole episodes, they're not available on UA-cam, unfortunately.
Maaaaaaannnnn... I really fell in love with this house!... German Smear technique applied to the bricks is just awesome!... And of course, the rest of the house is just fantastic!... Beautiful work!
Joe & Chip ...love all your work it's simply exquisite ....God bless you both and your kids....from Guyana, South America.
BEAUTIFUL 💕
The pronunciation was almost right 🇩🇪 love the look from the whole house 🥰would move in right away ❤️🧳
Wirklich? Zu dunkel, und immer das selbe. Nur das Foyer war mal was anderes.
Love it. It's totally stunning.
I am german, born and raised, always lived in germany....this is not german. The 'german smear' is unknown here. Just as the christmas pickle.
Liz Oeh Thats two different things. What you are talking about (verputzen) is plastering. You cover a wall or any type of brickwork with plaster to create a uniform and sealed look. That exists in germany, quite popular actually. Modern houses are most likely all plastered and white. But the walls under this plaster are made of white blocks - not bricks. A bricklayer wall (the terracotta ones) will either be uncovered (like in the video) or be very accurately covered in plaster. And I mean like seriously accurate the german way. There wouldn't be any bricks visible - partly or fully. The wall in the video, some visible bricks in an otherwise uniform plastered wall...that's Disney Theme Park Germany. I am not questioning if it looks good or not. But after more than 40 years in germany I never saw a wall like this.
Liz Oeh I get what you wanted to say. And the technique is very german. The precision behind it not so much 😉.
Have you ever been to New Braunfels, Texas where Germans settled in Texas, which is just down Highway 35 from Waco? It looks like what some German homes look there. It the same when Germans interpret an American home in Germany like my brother-in-law's home. But I guess you are a German purist.
I feel like many american designers like to add just any european-related adjective to their design references to add hype and sense of luxe to their work. No matter if it's italian, french, belgian, mediterranean, italian..or german it adds a touch of mystery.
@@leoprg5330 yes, we sense that over here ;-)
Always amazing! The finishing touches are so beautiful. Well done :)
They are amazing !
The ideas of Jo are infinite! The franch or italian style are beautiful!
This is absolutely stunning inside and out! It's just a shame they have to now go and purchase all this stuff or they will they take it out of their house after it's aired
It´s so funny how you guys think we Germans talk ;), and I love to watch you´re fantastic ideas and love your humor.
I miss this show
she seems like a normal, nice young lady at first, but when you see her joy and excitement she is absolutley gorgeous. Interesting how pretty / ugly our reaction and felt emotion can make us. The rest are just as wonderful as always. Two beautiful couples, and a stunning house! love this!
Absolutely Gorgeous
Amazing!
a little more Transylvania than Germany... all the dark colors and ornate decorative pieces made it feel like a vampire's house
still nicer than anything I could ever afford
She nails it all the time!! Love!
love it, this both couples awesomenss. that guy voice amazing
Loved it...only personal observation is the mud room- office was painted too dark. Delighted they made good choices to get rid of all the carpet.
This is an amazing house ❤ oh my god what a talent
The house is stunning 🤩
Love it and thank goodness you installed a pot filler 👍❤️ Some massive luxury homes still neglect this feature.
shmear is actually a Yidish word (a language that is a derivative of German and used only by the Jews)...those r some pretty yet super dark walls....loooove the shmeared brick
Wow, speechless!
Why do so many Americans think screaming the same sentence makes for a German accent?
Why do you dislike us so much?
Ruby Arias It was an open question.
Same reason all the other languages are dramatized... television sadly. If some people were to truly here other languages without the dramatics and racism then perhaps they would think of other languages with passion and enthusiasm. Unfortunately it's just the world we currently live in but hopefully the younger of us will continue teaching our young more love and compassion for the melting pot of the world and things will get better each and every decade.
Hear*
He nailed it though
Chip and Jo never cease to top themselves. This home is absolutely beautiful!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Chip's version of the German Schmear. For those ladies whining his technique is not "German" - WTH gives a crap what its called as there is more than one term to describe the technique. "Germans" cannot take all the credit - GET OVER IT!!
Nice look” very high class,!
So FRENCH STYLE ♥
Thats a Million Dollar reaction there......Love the work! Its Tops!
Beautiful
Greets to Jojo and Chip from Germany, great job 🙋♀️
Loved the house 🏡loved the episode was till the end. ...👍new subscr. .🌹
Me encanta el programa, me gusta mucho el equipo que hacen, las transformaciones, el trabajo y la decoracion, todo me facina!!!
Bellísima transformacion
Cute cute cute 😍 that bedroom
I really love the bedroom
Muito lindo, parabéns!
Lovely :)
the chip and jo shmire looks awesome.
There’s no way you could do this for $60,000 at YOUR house.
@hlca yes, they do. I read it in an article about them. The $60k is just for structural renovation. All the furniture and knick-knacks are just staging for the show. I don't blame them though.. a show about just structural reno would be boring. The staging captures the imagination of the watchers.
I think renovation in Texas would be affordable w: Joanna Gaines & Chips as real estate is cheaper than California. How do I get Joanna and Chips to design my house? I think they will have fun with my house because it’s a challenge. I really love the farmhouse concept
German smear mimics the look of irregular stones and heavy mortar joints, a style often found on centuries-old cottages and castles throughout northern Germany. The technique is akin to whitewashing bricks, but instead of using diluted latex paint, homeowners coat the brick with a layer of wet mortar.
Cette femme c’est une magicienne ✨✨✨✨✨✨
Have they ever been to Germany??? Or have they even seen pictures of german homes? Dont get me wrong! This renovation turned out beautiful but nowhere near german :/
They didn’t say it’s a German style house. They said the technique for painting the brick on the outside is a “German Smear” technique.
@@nalaqueenofthejungle Yeah about that...the funny thing is that I have never seen "german schmear" on a house in Germany. We have a lot and I mean a lot of brick houses or houses with a so called "Putzfassade" but german schmear just has to be an american invention. But again- the house looks great, the name is just not acurate.
Yeah, the houses in Germany don't look like that. I wondered and did some research. Schmear (butter) comes from the Yiddish language and there are many German words used. Maybe they've just put a German in front of it because of the word origin "Schmieren".
It’s not a technique used in Germany. It’s an American painting technique, similar to washing. It’s done to try to mimic old bricks that have been on houses for centuries, like that in Germany (or any other European country.) it’s just an aging technique. I had it done on my bricks in my game room. They ever said it’s what they do in Germany.
@@HillsFrida Well Carolin, you should realize that USA is a country of immigrant, and huge population were Germans-American and they develop techniques different from the ones in Germany, yet still call it German Smear becaude it was created by German American, and not neccesarily come from Germnay.
Opening the rooms, by taking down walls, is the key to these fabulous and spacious interiors. Gorgeous!
(But I don’t really see “German” here; actually, what would “German” look like?)
If I knew her parents who wrote the poem were Max Lucado n his wife, I could have paid more attention to this episode. Joanna n chip are humble servants of All Mighty.
All I can say.... holy smokes
I'm german, born and raised as well- and I have never seen a house like this here in Germany either... I do love it though. And calling it "german smear" really cracked me up🤣🤣🤣🤣
Everyone talking about the whole German Smear, they didn’t name it, why you complaining?
Jo you put the elegant in opulence.
Enquanto não passa o novo programa, não dá pra repetir os velhos? Estou com muita saudade desse programa maravilhoso.
All looks perfect, what details and renovation skills!!!! but I can't get over the dark colours and the black. I am from Europe and except in the bedroom, I could never have black or darker grey in my home, I can't even wear black. I need colours.
Ihr seit Super 👍
Wow.. 👍 😲😄
What made it extra special - was an appearance by Max Lucado
Saudades de assistir as reformas.
Programa maravilhoso.
*❤ it Jo-Chi*
German schmear??? Greetings from there ;-)
I’d buy a 💩shack if I knew these two were going to pimp it out! 💞🌸💞
What I dont understand: did they not see the house they bought before hand? It seemed they were like: "ah, here is the master bedroom!", as if they first walked in when doing the tour of the old house. 🤔.
❤️❤️❤️
당신들의 방송을 또다시 보게 된건 나에게 행운입니다.
유퓨브가 감사할 정도라구요.

Chip and Jo I have a question in an old house that was built useinfg ci der nlocks in basement what can be do e now 2020 to stop wzter from comeing in thanks
Its 😎
👍👍👍💞
@ 5:32 ... you may want to finish the tile job guys ;)
I Love You #Joannagaines 😍 🏡👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Putting off-white shutters and door on the house would have solved the problem of the brick color. The reddish shutters clash with the bricks and that is what makes them look ugly. I think the kitchen is fine as it is, but maybe that's just me.
Majority of this show's reno is "open concept" where there is barely a division of rooms
The kitchen was not to small, I'd want a small pantry, I' Ruth I'd want a laundry upstairs
The cupboards that had the mercury glass on them were the pantry..
