  • Laura Purcell's novel, The Silent Companions, is a gothic ghost story absolutely perfect for the lengthening evenings of this time of year.     And how about Woman in Black by Susan Hill? It reminded me of it very well. Especially the ending where you think that it might be a good/happy ending, but it turns very bad very quickly.
